What is Rooster Teeth FIRST?
FIRST is Rooster Teeth’s subscription video service. It’s Rooster Teeth Sponsorship, but with a new name, more choices, and more value.
Why did you change the name from “Sponsorship” to “FIRST”?
Rooster Teeth now has traditional business sponsors in the form of broadcast and branded content advertising partners, and the time has come to separate the identity of the subscription video service and make the name more relevant and meaningful for the audience it serves.
What do I get with my FIRST membership?
By subscribing, FIRST members get access to exclusive content and premium series, as well as other perks like no ads, early access to episodes, live broadcasts, Rooster Teeth Store discounts, early access to event ticket sales, and more.
What is the difference between FIRST and FIRST Double Gold memberships?
FIRST membership includes the following perks:
• No ads
• Early access to episodes
• Exclusive content
• Premium series
• Live broadcasts
• 5% discount at the Rooster Teeth Store
• Early access to live event ticket sales
• Third-party discounts
• FIRST panel at each RTX
• Gold star by your profile name
FIRST Double Gold membership includes all of the above perks, plus the following:
• Monthly box of exclusive merch valued at $60+ (known as the RT Box)
• 10% discount at the Rooster Teeth Store
• Early access to live event VIP passes
• Exclusive contests and giveaways
• Monthly Q&A with Rooster Teeth staff
• Double Gold star by your profile name
How much does FIRST membership cost?
The standard FIRST membership is $4.99 a month, or $19.99 every six months ($3.33/mo). The FIRST Double Gold membership is $34.99 a month. You can cancel anytime. You’re probably thinking, “DAAAMN!” but remember that this gets you $60+ in exclusive merch every month, in addition to the benefits of the standard FIRST membership – and more.
We should point out that FIRST and FIRST Double Gold memberships are separate (i.e., you don’t have to have a standard FIRST membership to sign up for Double Gold). As always, you can sign up for a free Rooster Teeth account to get a customizable profile, participate in community discussions, and set schedule reminders for shows.
How can I pay for my FIRST membership?
A credit or debit card is required to purchase a FIRST membership. If you don’t have a credit or debit card, you can always purchase a prepaid credit card and pay with that.
I was previously a Sponsor. When will the new FIRST pricing kick in for me?
Good news – it won’t! You are grandfathered into your current rate as long as you stay on the same plan and continue auto-renewing your membership. Your grandfathered status will be removed if you make a change to your FIRST membership or let it lapse.
I am grandfathered in at special pricing from the old Sponsorship program. What does this mean for me?
If you are grandfathered in through the old PayPal plan, nothing will change for you. If you decide to upgrade to Double Gold, you will lose your grandfathered status.
Not sure if you have a grandfathered account? Email FIRSTsupport@roosterteeth.com and we’ll look into it.
I have some time left in my standard FIRST membership (previously Sponsorship), but I want to upgrade to FIRST Double Gold. What will happen to my standard FIRST membership?
If you decide to upgrade from the standard FIRST membership to Double Gold in the middle of your plan, your standard FIRST plan will go on hold while you are receiving Double Gold perks. If you cancel Double Gold, you'll then finish your standard FIRST membership. This way, you can check out Double Gold when you’re able to and not worry about the status of your FIRST plan.
Will grandfathered FIRST memberships (previously Sponsorships) get any sort of discount for FIRST Double Gold?
No, sorry. We’re all going into this anew.
Is FIRST Double Gold available outside of the United States?
Yes! There will be a small additional charge of $7.00 each month for international shipping.
Do FIRST Double Gold members get access to any shows or episodes that FIRST members can’t see?
No. The core perk of the Double Gold tier is the monthly box of exclusive merch valued at $60+. Exclusive content will continue to be available to all FIRST members.
What is the timing for FIRST Double Gold RT Boxes?
Sign up for FIRST Double Gold by 11:59:59 p.m. GMT on the last day of the month to receive the next month’s RT Box. Click here to convert GMT to your local time zone. RT Boxes will begin shipping out on the 20th of each month.
How many FIRST Double Gold memberships are available?
FIRST Double Gold memberships are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. If it isn't available to upgrade to right now, check back soon – we'll periodically increase the number of spots available.
What are my shipping options?
If you are a FIRST Double Gold member and in the US, then there is no shipping charge. If you are a FIRST Double Gold member, and outside the US, then there is a $7 monthly charge on top of the monthly box cost.
When will my FIRST Double Gold RT Box of goodies ship?
Boxes will begin shipping on the 20th day of each month (or the following business day), but shipping times may vary depending on your address and the carrier.
How can I cancel my FIRST membership?
You can cancel your FIRST membership at any time by clicking the "Disable Autorenew" button on your FIRST Membership Management page.
To cancel your subscription at any time, you must do one of the following at least 48 hours prior to your next scheduled renewal date to avoid charge: Update your user account at roosterteeth.com or email customer support. All FIRST Double Gold subscriptions will have a renewal date of the 1st of each month, and regardless of the date membership is started, will not be charged until the first day of the following month, nor will a box ship until the 20th of that next month. Cancellation will be effective immediately, but orders billed on the first of the month cannot be canceled and will have a box shipped on the 20th.
If you cancel, you can continue enjoying your FIRST membership benefits (watching great content first!) only until the end of the subscription period listed on your FIRST Membership Management page. If you're a FIRST Double Gold member, you'll still receive your box for that monthly billing period. You will not be eligible for a prorated refund of any portion of the subscription fee paid for the then-current subscription period.
How am I charged for my FIRST membership?
After you sign up, Rooster Teeth bills you automatically on the first of the month for FIRST Double Gold membership and after the subscription period for standard FIRST memberships. You can cancel anytime.
What if i have a problem or question that isn't covered here?
Send an email to FIRSTsupport@roosterteeth.com and we'll get it sorted out for you. Please include your RoosterTeeth.com username.
Content Usage Guidelines
Content Usage Guidelines - Rooster Teeth IP
These guidelines (“Guidelines”) cover some of the most popular questions about how and when our fans in the RT Community can use Rooster Teeth intellectual property (“Rooster Teeth IP”) to make cool stuff of their own.
What is Rooster Teeth IP?
Can I use Rooster Teeth IP?
If your use is personal and free, and it follows these Guidelines, then generally yes.
We reserve the right to restrict your use of Rooster Teeth IP at any time, for any reason or no reason, including when we think your use in inappropriate or just bad (and we’ll make that call in our sole discretion). If this happens, you must immediately stop using and distributing Rooster Teeth IP – no ifs, ands, or buts.
Generally, Rooster Teeth IP can be used, downloaded or copied by fans in a project (“Fan Project”) as follows:
If your Fan Project is for your own personal purposes (i.e., to comment, praise, even tear apart). The use is non-commercial. Not-for-profit. In other words, FREE. This means you must be allowing others to view, download, access or use your Fan Project for FREE. Requiring payments, surveys, downloads or other actions to access your Fan Project is not permitted. This also means you can’t license or resell your Fan Project to any third parties for any type of payment – you must always allow others (including Rooster Teeth) to re-use your Fan Project for their own purposes for FREE without needing to obtain your approval or give you credit.
You can’t remove or modify any copyright notices, names, logos or other notices in the Rooster Teeth IP when you incorporate in your Fan Project. After all, it’s our IP, so don’t mess with these.
You can’t give any impression or idea that your Fan Project is endorsed or sponsored by Rooster Teeth in any way. You’re completely on your own. This means that your Fan Project should include the following notice that’s easy to see (such as in the YouTube description box or on the website page where your project is available): This is not endorsed by Rooster Teeth in any way. Views, opinions, thoughts are all my own. Rooster Teeth and [name of Rooster Teeth show/character/etc.] are trade names or registered trademarks of Rooster Teeth Productions, LLC. © Rooster Teeth Productions, LLC.
If your Fan Project is available on a platform that pays ad revenue or otherwise allows you to monetize, we may in our sole discretion ask the platform to pay Rooster Teeth or decide to share the revenue with you. We’ll tackle this on a case-by-case and platform-by-platform basis.
Respect other party’s intellectual property. If you don’t have the rights to use a third party’s IP in your Fan Project, don’t use it. If we find out that your Fan Project is using a third party’s IP without permission, we may require you to take it down, pronto.
Don’t pull us into any legal tangles – our lawyers are busy enough. If Rooster Teeth, our partners, affiliates and employees get hit with any legal claims, fees or expenses related to your Fan Project, you’re responsible for paying all of our costs (including attorney’s fees) and any resulting judgment or settlement.
If you need our advance written approval to use Rooster Teeth IP, or have any questions, contact us at fanprojects[AT]roosterteeth[DOT]com with all the details of your Fan Project and intended use. We’ll reply back as soon as we can. Note that a lack of a reply from us is not advance written approval for any use of Rooster Teeth IP. It probably just means your question is covered by these Guidelines or the Rooster Teeth Terms.
Frequently Asked Questions

Rooster Teeth IP includes (but isn’t limited to) the shows, pictures, logos, animations, characters, graphics, files, music, sound, text, and other materials on the Rooster Teeth website, on our YouTube channel, Facebook pages, Twitter pages, and any other place where our content is distributed.
May I make a let’s play video using a Rooster Teeth video game?
Will Rooster Teeth try to monetize my let’s play video?
Nope, as long as your let’s play video is free to watch for everyone.
May I monetize my let’s play video?
Yes, as long as your video remains free to watch for everyone.
May I be paid by a sponsor to make a let’s play video of a Rooster Teeth video game?
Yes, as long as you follow applicable rules regarding disclosing sponsored videos, and don’t imply you are endorsed by Rooster Teeth in any way.
May I make a reaction or review video with Rooster Teeth content?
Yes, as long as it follows the community use guidelines outlined above.
May I make an AMV (anime music video) or other type of video using music from Rooster Teeth?
Yes, so long as you follow the content usage guidelines. Please note Rooster Teeth uses licensed music from a variety of sources and might not be the owner of the music you use, even if you originally heard it in one of our videos. If we're not the ones claiming your content, you'll have to reach out to the rights holder even if you originally found that music in a Rooster Teeth video.
Will you monetize my video using music from Rooster Teeth?
If you post your video on YouTube, we will use Content ID to claim your video and will likely monetize the audio portion of the video. Please note Rooster Teeth uses licensed music from a variety of sources and might not be the owner of the music you use, even if you originally heard it in one of our videos. If we're not the ones claiming your content, you'll have to reach out to the rights holder even if you originally found that music in a Rooster Teeth video.
Is there a disclaimer I should use on my Rooster Teeth fan project?
Yup! You should include the following notice in an easy-to-see location, such as in the YouTube description box or on the website page where your project is available:
This is not endorsed by Rooster Teeth in any way. Views, opinions, and thoughts are all my own. Rooster Teeth and [name of Rooster Teeth show/character/etc.] are trade names or registered trademarks of Rooster Teeth Productions, LLC. © Rooster Teeth Productions, LLC.
Does Rooster Teeth run YouTube’s Content ID? How will that affect my fan project?
We do. We love fan projects and want you to make them, but there are a lot of people just trying to make a buck by reposting our IP in full, and we’re not ok with that. Due to this we do run Content ID. If your project contains a large amount of a Rooster Teeth video, it will most likely be claimed when you upload it to your channel. The first policy we automatically apply is a “block” policy, which means your video won’t be visible at first. When this happens, all you need to do is dispute the claim in your Video Manager (here are more details on how dispute a claim). Within 2 business days, we will review your video and will either remove the claim or change the policy. If we don’t remove the claim or change the policy, that means our staff member who watched it decided it does not follow the above guidelines or fair use provisions of the US Copyright Act, and our claim and/or policy is correct. If you feel strongly we’ve made a mistake, please e-mail email@example.com and include as much information as possible in your email such as links to the videos, your YouTube Channel ID, your contact information and any other information pertaining to your request, and we’ll get back to you.
Will Rooster Teeth try to monetize my reaction video?
If Rooster Teeth content takes up most of the screen for most of your video and you don’t add a lot to it, we will likely monetize it. We handle these decisions on a case-by-case basis.
Will Rooster Teeth try to monetize my review video?
If you add a significant amount of your own input to the video, we probably will not monetize it. We handle these decisions on a case-by-case basis.
I’m a FIRST Member, and I watch Rooster Teeth content before it’s released on YouTube. Can I release a reaction or review video on YouTube before the episode is available on YouTube?
Thanks for being an awesome FIRST Member! If you can, we generally prefer you to post your reaction video on YouTube after our episodes are released there. But no matter when it’s released, we’ll still enforce these guidelines the same.
My videos are free to watch, but may I take donations?
Yes, as long as your videos remain free to watch, and you do not license your videos to a third party.
I believe my YouTube video was claimed incorrectly by Rooster Teeth. Can you release the claim?
We use YouTube’s ContentID system to help us enforce these guidelines. You should always start by using YouTube’s tools to appeal a claim you feel was applied incorrectly. If your appeal is denied, it means someone at Rooster Teeth personally reviewed it and determined we applied a policy to your video consistent with these guidelines.
I received a copyright strike on my YouTube account due to uploading a Rooster Teeth video. I’m really sorry. Can you remove the strike please?
Copyright strikes are no joke, and we take them very seriously. We only issue copyright strikes after you dispute a claim on your video three times. That means someone at Rooster Teeth personally reviewed it three times, and still determined we applied the claim correctly. The good news is the strike will go away in three months if you complete YouTube's Copyright School. It's a quick online course and they've done a lot to make it at least a little bit fun.
May I sell my Rooster Teeth fan art online or at conventions?
We love and appreciate fan art, and are fine with you producing it for your own enjoyment, to give away as a gift, or to post pictures of online. But we can’t give you permission to sell anything based on our IP.
May I use Rooster Teeth graphics, characters, and logos in my original work?
Using our logos unaltered is not allowed, per the above. Graphics and characters are fine to use as long as your original work is free to watch/own/etc.
May I create fanfiction with original characters who exist inside the universe of a Rooster Teeth show?
Yes, as long as it’s for personal use and free to watch for everyone.
How can I contact Rooster Teeth about my fan project?
If you need our advance written approval to use Rooster Teeth IP, or have any questions, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org with all the details of your fan project and its intended use. We’ll reply back as soon as we can. Note that a lack of a reply from us does not imply approval for any use of Rooster Teeth IP – it probably just means your question is covered by the community use guidelines.
RT on VRV
What is VRV?
VRV (pronounced “verve”) is a new video experience where you can watch Rooster Teeth along with other awesome channels like Crunchyroll, Tested, Seeso, Funimation, Cartoon Hangover, and more… all in one app. VRV is currently the best way to watch Rooster Teeth shows on your PS4 in the United States, and is also available on other platforms, including mobile devices, Xbox One, Roku, Chromecast, and web. Currently VRV is only available in the United States.
What is the difference between VRV Premium access to the Rooster Teeth channel versus Rooster Teeth FIRST membership?
Here are the basics of VRV Premium membership:
• Must watch content via VRV (on iOS and Android phones, Xbox One, PS4, and on the web at VRV.co)
• Get access to the same Rooster Teeth content that FIRST members get on RoosterTeeth.com and the Rooster Teeth apps, with the exception of live broadcasts
• Enjoy limited free access to other great VRV channels, or get a subscription bundle with channels such as Crunchyroll, Geek & Sundry, Funimation, and more
Alternately, these are the basics of Rooster Teeth FIRST membership:
• Must watch content via RoosterTeeth.com or Rooster Teeth apps (currently on iOS, Android, Xbox One, and Apple TV)
• Get access to all Rooster Teeth content, plus live broadcasts
• Enjoy additional perks like early access to ticket sales for Rooster Teeth events and discounts to the RT Store
If I sign up for VRV Premium access, am I a Rooster Teeth FIRST member?
At the moment, if you sign up for Premium access to the Rooster Teeth channel on VRV, you will not be a FIRST member, and will not be able to use those same credentials to sign in as a FIRST member on the Rooster Teeth site or apps. The VRV team is currently working on account linking for Rooster Teeth FIRST, and we will announce that as soon as it is available for our community. You can learn more about account linking here.
If I'm already a FIRST member, can I sign into the Rooster Teeth VRV channel as Premium?
Unfortunately, right now, no. To access all of the FIRST content on the VRV Rooster Teeth channel, you'll need to subscribe to VRV Premium. VRV is currently working on account linking, which will allow FIRST members to get full Premium access to the VRV Rooster Teeth channel. As soon as account linking is ready, we will announce that to everyone. You can learn more about account linking here.
When will account linking be ready for the VRV Rooster Teeth channel?
We don't yet have a release date for account linking, but VRV is working on it as we speak! We will announce a date as soon as we know.
How can I pay for VRV?
VRV accepts all major credit and debit cards, as well as VRV gift cards which can be purchased at GameStop stores.
Which platforms is VRV available on?
VRV is available on iOS and Android phones, Xbox One, PS4, Roku, Chromecast, and on the web at VRV.co. VRV will be available on more devices and platforms in the future, so it’s best to check their site for the latest updates.
Which countries is VRV available in?
VRV is only available in the United States for now.
If I subscribe to VRV Premium, am I still supporting Rooster Teeth?
On VRV, every ad view and Premium membership goes toward supporting the channel and the content providers that power those channels. In Rooster Teeth’s case, it goes toward supporting Rooster Teeth in creating new awesome content for our community. So, the answer is yes!
