These past few days have been hard as it's been the anniversary of my godmother's death. My cousin called me tonight out of the blue, I really wasn't expecting it it, and we had ourselves a tearfest. One of the things that sticks out was that in the last month or so of my aunt's life, she asked to see me and my grandmother Mamaw. I was there a month before she passed away on Easter sunday when she was coherent enough to know I was there. My cousin Carolyn pointed out to me that her mother only asked to speak to two people out of the sixty-plus on that side of the family, not to mention the fifty something on the other side. Sure I was her godson, but it still makes me feel damn good that it was me and my Mamaw that she wanted to talk to before she went.... and she saw us before she did, last year on Mother's day.... I miss you Di, I always will.
