Extra Life 2010
As most people know extra life 2010 is coming up on October 16 and I am really working at raising money this year. As you may know this year you can chose what hospital your money goes to and since I live in Austin, Texas I chose Dell Children’s Hospital. While I personally have never been in Dells Children’s Hospital as a patient, I have had many experiences with the hospital. My sister went there when she got a concussion at UIL choir concert and while that’s a different story it did show how good the hospital was at taking care of patients. The main reason I am doing extra life this year is one of my good friends Fernando. Fernando was one of my friends from middle school and a great person who is involved in tons of activities like orchestra. In 2009 he was diagnosed with Pulmonary Alveolar Protienosisi a rare lung disease that only affects 1 in 100,000 people. In the last year he has been in Dell Children's Hospital 13 times, had lavages 6 times to try and help but all attempts have failed. Now his lungs are failing and the doctors are only giving him 5 to 6 months to live unless he can get a new set of lungs. While even now he can’t speak due to the tube in his throat that keeps him breathing, he is still keeping his hopes high and finding ways to speak like texting. His illness has made him wiser than his time and I have learned so much from him. While he has been at Dell Children’s Hospital they have taken great care of him which is why I have chosen to support them during extra life. This October 16 I will game in his honor and will attempt to live stream it as well. I am giving out two prizes with extra life this year one has already been taken but the prize for biggest donator is currently at 50 dollars so for the free game you must top that. As of right now I have raised 103 dollars and hope to get at least 200 but my personal goal is 500. While the website will ask for a dollar an hour I realize for some people that is a little much so dont forget most of the money raised for the childrens miracle network is raised a dollar or two at time so every little bit helps.
