Monty OumThe first time I had ever heard of Monty was on Drunk Tank #56, and he seemed like a pretty cool guy from the few words he spoke then. I had seen all of his work on Red Vs. Blue and was amazed at the depth he brought to the show. He gave RvB a new side that would further everyone's interest in it.

In July of 2012, I made the voyage to Austin to attend the second annual RTX Event. I arrived at the Charlotte, North Carolina Airport to hop on another flight, this is where it was weird for me. Half way to Austin, and I already ran into an RT Staff member! Monty was standing in the corner hanging out with his girlfriend and talking to another fan. I was too nervous to approach him, so I just stayed where I was and let him be. I figured he would encounter plenty of nervous, sweaty fans in the next few days.

I actually approached him at RTX 2012 after the Podcast Panel, and he was one of the most easy going people I have ever met. He immediately said, "Hey! What's up?" I told him about the airport, and he said that there was no reason for me to be nervous to talk to him. I thanked him for the autograph and his work with RT, and I went on my way.

I have always enjoyed Monty's work, and more importantly, his attitude towards his work. He always came off as having a laid-back, but diligent work ethic. I appreciate dedication in any person.

It may seem like I'm coming across as know Monty like a dear friend, but I really only spoke a few sentences to him. That just shows how much of a lasting impact he had on people. With only a few words, Monty Oum made you like him. He is truly one of a kind, and he will be missed.

Monty Oum, a great artist, a great person.
