Small update It's been a month and a half since my last update.
Holy crap!
I'll make a larger update soon, but for now, just wanted to post about a few things I'm working on on the cosplay side of things.
As it stands, I have 3 costumes in development:
1. The main one
The Black Hornet
99% of you may not know who this is, but he is the newest villain in Kevin Smith's "Green Hornet" comic. This one is going along pretty well. I had to make a concession about the coat, getting a six button coat rather than an 8 button one, but it seems to work fine. I'm going to start work on the mask soon, and I'm really excited about that. The hornet jewel on his collar is going to be a bit tough though. I'm still looking for a suitable fedora and ascot.
2. The bane of my existence
Spider-Man Noir
This has caused me so much misery. I'm planning to do a mix of the version you see above (the comic version) and the one from the new game Shattered Dimensions:
This costume taught me to never assume ANYTHING would be easy. I came into this costume with the mindset that the vest would be relatively easy to find, and that the mask would be the hardest part of the whole thing to make. I was right about at least one thing. The mask would be hard to make. Yet the vest is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to find! The vest seems to be made out of leather, and finding a vest that is in that style that's leather is extremely difficult to find.
The other thing about the costume is the mask. I'm going for the mask that's in the game version, which looks to be half leather, half fabric. The fabric half isn't hard at all to find. Any balaclava could do for the bottom half. However, the leather half of the mask is a pain! The problem is, most leather masks/caps have eye openings that reach to about the forehead, leaving the bridge of the nose exposed. As you can see in the pictures, the bridge of the nose (as well as most of the forehead) is covered with the leather part of the mask. So the problem is finding a mask that has enough mask to cover the forehead and the bridge of the nose. And once again, extremely impossible (or expensive). I found something that was almost perfect to what I needed, a soviet sailor weatherproof helmet (mask), but by the time of this writing, it's been sold out. I thoroughly raged when I saw this.
I'm still iffy about continuing with this one. I'll try in hopes of maybe having a breakthrough, but chances are kinda slim that I'll move forward with this one.
3. The alternative
Punisher Noir
Although I haven't yet started on this one, it's one I'm planning to do if I decide to not move forward with Spider-Man. It's a simple enough costume. The only thing to work on would be the mask, which is something I plan to do either way.
And then there's one costume that doesn't have any specific time table for completion that I would like to work on whenever I get the chance:
4. FEAR!
Yellow Lantern Scarecrow
I couldn't tell you how I got into the mood to work on this costume. For some reason, I just though "I want make the Yellow Lantern Scarecrow", and that's pretty much that.
I'm still undecided as to whether I'm doing the comic version or the figure version:
But chances are, much like Spider-Man, I'll probably do a mix of both.
And that's it. Thanks for reading. I'll have another update (hopefully) soon.
