A funny entry from my other journal...So as an explanation, I am a stage manager for the Southern California Renaissance Faire in Irwindale. I generally direct the parades. After noticing a bit of an issue developing during the year, I decided to make a post about it so that people would understand what I needed from them...

______________________________________________

Hi, I'm Robert, the Assistant Parades and Progress Manager, at the front of the parade telling the bus where to go.

(HI ROBERT!)

I know NONE of you need this little gentle reminder. But perhaps you can pass information to those who might not know.

(SURE THING ROBERT!)

Parades and progress have people walking in a direction. Sometimes they are walking forward, sometimes they are walking backward. Sometimes they are tumbling. Sometimes they are carrying heavy things. Sometimes they are carrying people. Sometimes they are carrying WEAPONS.

(GET TO THE POINT ROBERT!)

Oh, um.. ok. I have seen many people think that they should walk through what they think is a "break" in the parade. Often times this break is there for a safety reason (like Scott and his whirling flag that will hit you REALLY hard), sometimes it's there because the parade does a slinky like motion. I have seen all types of people do this this year, Guild members, booth workers, facilities, beverage workers... lots of people.

So let me say/ask this clearly.

DO NOT WALK THROUGH PARADE.

This is for everyone's safety. You doing it encourages others to do it. This is NOT a good thing. People can get hurt this way. Consider it like crossing a freeway. I don't have little signs on the parade route with the fleeing family warning the parade that people will try to run through(NOT A GOOD GIG IDEA, yes, I know how you people think). This puts people at risk, and that makes me a very unhappy person.

Do you want to make me unhappy?

(NO ROBERT!)

Good. So please do not walk through the parade. NOR should you join the parade after it has started. There are VERY FEW selected people allowed to jump into parade, and they already know who they are. Do you have a doubt? You probably aren't one of those people.

You will see me cross through a parade occasionally. It's usually because I need to deal with a safety issue that I see approaching. Please do not take this as an invitation to do the same yourself.

( WE WONT!)

Good.

Thank you!

(THANK YOU ROBERT!)
