Random thought for the weekThis just occurred to me, and I thought I would write it down somewhere with the potential for feedback. I think certain old texts, especially "classics," should periodically be re-translated into contemporary versions of the languages they have been read in before. My specific example is the Bible. I think there would be a lot less religious debate if there was a 2015 edition which kept the meaning of the original (as well as it can) while putting the words in clear, modern English/Spanish/German/French/whathaveyou. I, for one, am not clear on the part about "not laying with a man as with a woman." That can mean a couple of different things, which I think were less ambiguous originally. Modern people would have a way to either confirm that homosexuality is legal in the eyes of God, or homosexuals could find other, more leniant faiths. (I hear Judaism tends to be less pitchforky.)
Of course, this whole idea came about because I noticed a bit of fun with synonyms. God said "Let there be light," and light existed. Synonymously, God created illumination by not actively opposing its existence. It would be like if a few years ago, when the Vatican said extraterrestrial life was possible, aliens had suddenly popped into existence somewhere we could see them.
