We hates the Safe Mode! Hates it!
So, it seems that my laptop computer is pretty much infested with Trojans and malware and all sorts of other bad stuff guaranteed to make it go blooey the instant I turn my back on it. I never knew I owned the technological equivalent of the girl in high school with no gag reflex but apparently I do. As the journal title implies, I'm currently operating in Safe Mode with Networking, which is Windows jargon for "We'll let you get on the internet but we won't let you do anything fun like look at pictures or listen to stuff". Oh well, I suppose having a horribly crippled computer is better than having no computer at all. At least I can get to RT and FB. I'm currently in the process of transferring all of my data over to an external hard drive so I can reset to factory settings. I'd do a system restore, if that weren't the first thing that the virus screwed up when it turned my computer into a Sunday brunch. Talk about hitting you where it hurts. I'm tempted to take it into the store where I bought it, but they'll keep it for a week, take 5 minutes to pop a disc into the disc drive to undo whatever the last virus did so that it goes back to just barely usable, then charge me $100 for the "service'. I don't really want to restore to factory settings, but there are just so many things that have gone wrong with the dumb thing since I bought it. On the other hand, I'm not looking forward to reloading everything I've put on the computer in the last two years or so.

Any thoughts on how I should proceed?

Edit: I just went back and re-read a bunch of my old journals. Being that they come once every millenia or so, they provide an interesting view of my obsessions and opinions over time. I'm curious, when you check out a possible new friend on RT.com, do you go back and read their old journals or do you just look at the current one and base your opinion of them on that? Or do you not even read the journals?
