If there was such a thing as waffle rain then I would be able to give a reason why I carry maple syrup with me.

When I got OC'd in the army we took a shower for "first aid" after toughing it out for however long. Glad to hear now that water does fuck all :D

Water can still wash it off to some degree, it just doesn't dissolve it. Make sure you use soap.

I gotta say that I have really enjoyed this show so far. Really hope we're lucky enough to keep it continued for a while. Sally is a pleasure to have on as always and Gus is a good moderator.

The whole "Humans are the only ones who like self inflicted pain" is really interesting

I think Chris was more spot on with the kinky sex parallel than he knows. In theory the fact that capsaicin causes the tongue to feel as though it's burning would cause your body to release endorphins to block the pain. You get all the pain and pleasure without damage to tissue. The same could be true for some humans who enjoy rough sex their body responds by essentially rewarding them through the pain. This would also explain why children don't have the same response as their brains produce less endorphins as a trained response to pain.

I love all these more niche shows on RT, it really gives a nice variety to stay entertained and not get bogged down from an overload of only one type of content. I can't wait for the next episode and hope you guys keep up the great work!

I don't know why, but it stresses me out when Chris starts explaining things.

I was cringing so hard at his explanation. What makes it more cringy is I can't tell if he's joking or is serious, he looks so serious when explaining stuff yet his explanations are so strange at times.

Everyone takes the time to change shirts/outfits but Chris is STILL wearing the same shirt lmao. I realize that they recorded over a 2(?) day period

Kinda surprised Gus didn't point out that capsaicin is also soluble in alcohol, so vodka works as a chaser to hot peppers just as well as milk.

Is Sally living in Texas now, or do they just shoot ten videos every time she visits? Also re: brits doing American accents, there was that one episode of House where Hugh Laurie, playing an American, did a fake British accent, that was great.

This was my favorite episode. Great topics. I sort of wish this was longer. Like 30 minutes. Like if this format could be fused with adding maybe one other person and doubling the length, it would be amazing. I always love Sally on the RT Podcast, but what I love about this show is the prep time involved and the pre-prepared questions. I would be all for having like 2 fan questions like now and then maybe adding another person from RT each week to ask their own question for Chris and Sally to discuss.

Spreading knowledge is so important. I smiled when Sally mentioned that children are more sensitive to bitter flavors, so there is an actual reason why kids are more picky. That is one of my favorite factoids.

The changes in the British accents was from rivalries between cities. Oxford didnt want to sound like London didnt want to sound like Manchester. So the accents all changed wildly. Where as the US and Canada never developed that rivalries so the accent drifted less and mainly due to distance.

On the topic of spicy food.  I don't know if it is necessarily true that you build up a tolerance to hot foods for all people.  I was born with a love of hot food.  Mo hotter mo better was my motto from age 9 or so when I first tried very hot foods to around age 37.  If it was hot I could eat it and not even blink.  I even prided myself on it with friends from India and Mexico that me some dumb gringo from nowhere midwest usa could out eat spicy food from my friends that were raised on it.  But now in my 40's I find I have less tolerance than I use to.  Part of it is digestion issues.  As I age it affects me more later on in digestion(yes I mean when I poop).  But not just then even when eating it.  I use to get a full portion of Murg vindaloo or extra hot curry and not break a sweat.  Now I can't eat 1/2 of it before I have to stop because it has just gotten too hot.  I have to stop sooner because the pain receptors in my mouth have actually become more sensitive as I age.  I can still eat it I just can't eat as much.

This is exactly why I feel awkward about faking an accent. If the fake American accent can sound so butchered, what do we sound like to them?

As a British person, I can say that, excluding some professional actors, I have never heard a convincing attempt at a British accent from an American. It always comes out sounding mocking, I'm sure that's not the intent (most of the time) and I doubt any of my attempts at an American accent would be any better.

Personally I always feel terrible about it because I studied in the U.K. For a semester and my accent did somewhat shift during that time into a botched mishmash that always tries to come back if I hear any U.K. Accent. I have to consciously think about my original accent and spend the rest of the time panicking I'm insulting someone.

I think there's a study going on in Sweden right now about accents in cats around the world. There's different onomatopoeia for the sounds a cat makes in each language and accents in those cats might be the basis for that, whether that's different ways of vocalizing or an effect of human interaction, something along those lines.
