Don't worry Lindsay, taking your top off isn't the stupidest way to break a finger... ENGAUGE STORY MODE: I was 9 years old at the time and was at one of those soft play area things (you have those in the USA right?) and I accidently ended up in the section for under 3's. Being the awkward loser I was and am I bolted out of there at mach 5, but between me and the exit is a 180 degree turn. I grab onto the post at the end of the net wall and try to swing around the corner on it, only I failed and trapped my finger in the net instead and swung the full 180 corner anchored only by my little finger.

That finger does not straighten properly any more.

the worst thing i have to deal with as a girl is the stupid quizzing that guys do when a girl says she likes things like marvel or dc or assassin's creed or football or any other thing that's typically thought of as a male thing to like. It is the most annoying thing in the world to me, you dont quiz any of the guys you meet, half your friends cant answer those questions, wtf are you doing asking me?

My mom would massage me and my sister's arms whenever we got sick with the cold. She would massage it toward our hands, where she would then pull our fingers and crack them before starting all over again.

But yeah, cracking knuckles on the fly is not something I can do either.

In regards to the pressure on women to look perfect, it's worth remembering that nothing will change if you continue to give in to that pressure. If you're doing it for yourself it's fine, but I don't see many women acknowledging that their compliance with expectations is working against them. You can't complain about it while you're an active participant, you gotta take responsibility.

A very quiet and polite reminder to the ladies that menstruation isn't something that only women go through, and not all women go through it.

That said, they're 100% right on the treatment of women in the workplace re: pregnancy and maternity leave. To a lesser degree, paternity leave is still an issue, but maternity leave in America is a disgrace. One month? Really? Barbara touched on it, but compared to basically every other first-world country in the world the U.S. is downright absurd in how little slack (not even that - the expectations they're given are outright unreasonable) new parents are given, and it's an issue that disproportionately affects women.

Legally at a job interview they cant ask if you have kids. They can work around the question to try to get you to say it first THEN they can get into specifics. But if they outright ask certain questions including that and don't hire you, that's a lawsuit on their hands. And in my opinion, a very warranted lawsuit. Hiring outside of merit and skill regardless of gender is unacceptable.

    • Vikyng18 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Depends. 90% of the time, sure. No reason why to hire anybody but the person most suitable for the role. However, there are circumstances where that's not the case - From personal experience, we had a visibly pregnant woman apply for a site position. Qualifications were all there, but the situation wasn't safe - Asbestos, poor COSHH standards of site - something the role was to combat-, crapton of stuff out of company control that, should anything have happened to the baby, even if it wasn't the company's fault, could have resulted in a company-killing lawsuit. Aside from that, hiring a role specifically for a project? A person who's going to be missing concurrent months of time for whatever reason is not a suitable fit for the role, and could even prove a detriment depending on how specialised they are.

It didn't quite imagine that maternity leave was that bad in the US but I think Japan has it much worse where women are expected to be stay at home mothers once they have a kid. It's that attitude is one of the reasons why Japan's birth rate is dangerously low because women who want careers aren't going to start a family and risk losing their career because they had a kid and society expects them to raise the kid while the dad continues to work.

I have no idea why other women say periods are the worst thing about being female. Take the contraceptive pill, you can skip having a period. Problem solved (it's what I do, saves a ton of money from not having to buy pads and all that nonsense)

Contraceptive pills aren't an option for everyone. They're well known to make you severely depressed, and some health conditions make birth control outright dangerous.

I should have also mentioned I take the pill to help with PCOS, I don't take it purely to skip periods. Though being on the pill doesn't help much for my mental health issues (depression, BPD & panic attacks) but to be honest I'd rather have the chance at becoming a mother then having no mental issues. It's a shitty catch 22 really.

I can understand the reason behind asking a woman if they are going to become a stay at home mom if you are a boss of that person, but is asking about planning on children in an interview typical for women?

Were I live (Finland), you can´t ask those questions. If they ask, you can choose not to answer and they can´t hold it against you in any way.

    • GP_REAPER FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

As far as my understanding of interviews goes, that's not a proper question to be asked in an interview as it has nothing to do with the job so the woman being asked that question is perfectly inclined to refuse to answer. And if that question was a deciding factor in whether she got the job or not then that's against the law and can be discriminatory. I'm no expert, I'm just spit balling based on what I was taught about interviews and the kind of questions that are ok and the kind that aren't.

To the individual who asked the last question:

If you're unsatisfied with the culinary industry because of the work, the pay, or the work and possible networking needed to get paid more; you may not find visual arts more satisfying. Depending on what exactly what want to do, you NEED a good work ethic for visual arts, and you NEED to have good networking skills because that's how you find jobs and that's how you make money.

But I don't know what makes you unsatisfied with the culinary industry right now, so I can't give you that advice if that isn't your reasoning.

It's against the law to ask female or male interviewees if they have a family. If single people would show more solidarity with co-workers with families, we could put this manipulation to rest.

Keep in mind,.. If PR asks you this in an interview,.. they are either a 'bad' person, or a willing representative of a 'bad' company.

Stand up and be counted. Companies chould celebrate families. Without families, there would be no propigation. Without propigation,.. companies would have no profit.

     fu the greedy!
