The Last Ringling Circus

Burnie Vlog: The Last Ringling Circus

Olga left her small Russian village at the age of 14 to join the travelling circus, and at 16 was brought to America to perform in the Ringling Circus' Greatest Show On Earth! Burnie and Olga go to the last show, and she gives us a snapshot of life in rural Russia, moving to America and becoming a "YouTuber".

Two of my favorite recurring themes within RT content are the entrepreneurial spirit, and the need for companies to adapt and evolve in the changing business environment.

I work for a very large company that doesn't believe they have to innovate in a marketplace, because the executive team feels the industry couldn't survive if we didn't exist.  Meanwhile, customers are flocking to other businesses that fill the voids management refuses to acknowledge.

I love Rooster Teeth for not only making entertaining content, but also for their passion for making content better, trying new things, and not settling.

These vlogs are the best. This is why I love Burnie so much.

First, his conversational skills are incredible. Unlike the usual talk show host type people you see on TV, he can drop into a conversation with ANYBODY and ask excellent questions off the cuff with a sense of genuine curiosity and intelligence. I absolutely envy that skill.

Second, he's the type of person that will be driving down the street to go to the circus, pass a group of protestors and his first thought is "I should go interview them and get their side of this".

Additionally, he just lets the guy give his pitch, uninterrupted and without trying to inject an opinion or manufacture some sort of reality TV style drama for "good content".

It's how he introduced himself that showed this side of him the most -- "I have a YouTube channel". Understated humility, making sure the segment was all about the guy and what he wanted to protest -- genuine interest in his opinion and passion. Burnie really is a personality inspiration.

I'm all for things like zoos and stuff like that - It provides sanctuary, animal shows I'm a little on the fence with. I mean, yes, it does look forced and abusive, but you never know if the animals enjoy performing (Because its like a sort of "play") or not, so I don't tend to state my opinions on that as much. Any Zoo/Safari Park/Circus that kills animals for population reasons, or inflict harm on them can fuck off though...

Well isn't that so fine and dandy Mr.Burnie,

Doing such excursions with 3 ladies oh so pretty,

Believe me when I say you lived your life successfully,

For what decides a man's worth is his job, his lady and a lovely company.

edit: Alas, I have been ripped to shreds by the readers, But I believe common sense is what I lack, for what I have disturbed so many I can't see a reason. Was it the political correctness ? *Harumph* For art it's treason ! It's not the times that an artist should worry himself over, it's how his works will change the times instead ! Even if they might say I, misogynist. I shan't lend an ear to it.

Why must it be, this sense of being lost ? And oh how it hurts to see all that negativity, feeling like lost lamb, without a place, without a family.

As a circus artist myself, this was fantastic to watch. If anyone is interested in seeing some more awesome juggling and circus art please check out jugglers like Wes Peden, Jay Gilligan, Tony Pezzo, Haavard Hvidsteen (they are very modern so it can get a bit esoteric) or for some old school check out Anthony Gatto. Watching those guys should enable you to get into pretty much everyone else on the juggling scene and figure out what varieties you like. If you are interested in more modern circus of a little different variety check Les Sept Doights de la Main and Girls on Trapese (though I don't know if they have much on youtube).

Okay look, I'm all for animal rights, but protesting the last Ringling Circus is kind of pointless. They've already won. It's like if you're in a war with slavers and the slavers are out of ammo and surrender and you continue shooting at them. Anyway, Burnie, I really appreciate you giving the protesters a voice in this video.

This is the first time in years someone has said "on the spot" in a Rooster Teeth video and nobody started yelling a poor rendition of the theme.

    • Croswynd FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold Youtube Anime Superstar

Well, the point of the protest, said by the guy in the video, was to reinforce the point that other circuses and performances with animal performers would be shut down just like the Ringling Circus.

I shouldn't care this much about the Burnses' personal lives, but if Burnie sold his Austin house, where's Ashley living, and are Teddy and JD just gonna live with Jordan the entire time and not see Ashley?

In response to Pskyoma: Burnie had mentioned on the most recent Dude Soup that he was selling his house.

But, yeah, Vizsla is absolutely right - they have lives when the camera's aren't turned on. I'm sure he didn't move to LA without the intention of still seeing his kids, and I'm sure Burnie and Ashley sorted out somewhere for her to live - who knows, maybe they already bought another house in Austin! It's their personal lives. Don't worry about it.

I can speak on this a little bit - I moved to the US from NZ when I was 13. The vast majority of the time I just sound like your average Californian, but if I start talking about home, or if I'm around my family, or (sometimes) if I'm just really excited about the topic of conversation, my accent can still slip out somewhat.

It's nowhere as strong as it used to be, of course, but there are certain words I just never got into the habit of saying the American way - "adjacent", for example.

I actually did the night shift when Ringling was doing there last show in Norfolk, VA. I'm a security officer. The night I did that, I had forgotten my flashlight at home, they were having a work release program there (read prisoners), and they had clowns and tigers in the complex. I successfully met all of the requirements for "guy who dies in the horror movie."
