with what jon was saying about focusing on the characters and their human aspects and flaws, I think Logan did a really good job with it. The powers took a backseat and it was more about wolverine finding peace and happiness in a life of misery. the powers helped him along, but it was first and foremost a closing story about who wolverine is as a person, not as a fighter. It was really nice  as a last movie for wolverine (until they eventually reboot it twenty years later) and it did was x-men (and a lot of other superhero movies like batman v. superman) has failed to do for so long. Batman v Superman tried too hard with it while also losing all human aspects: they made the movie all about fighting and tried to shove all of their character development into martha? martha. which was just heavy-handed and cheap.

I dont know if t has been mentioned in a previous comment and I am sure some would call this a spoiler or if the show Legion is going to use that much content from the comics and I really dont know if anyone actually cares but...
The answer to Jons question of whom that fat yellow-eyed bastard is, is found in the Muir Island Saga of an X-Men and i wanna say ?X-Force? team up, and that monster is, dun dun duunnn:
    The Shadow King.
They even put a little nod to this being the case by naming Davids dog (that never existed) King :)
The Shadow King actually possessed David Haller, for quite a while.

If TV shows are on the table, I'd love to see an episode about Westworld, maybe about AI characters in general. I think there's a lot of good discussion there.

I'm guessing Jon and I are about the same age, and we had this great period of Saturday morning comic book based cartoons; The Animated Adventures of Batman, Superman, X-Men, and Spider-Man. And the 92 X-Men cartoon was just great, barely being beaten by Batman, and total shaped my opinion on many superheros and comics. And once I was able to buy and read comic books without having to worry about my parents, X-men comic books were one of my go to purchases. So if it wasn't for those cartoons, and the X-Men movie coming out right when I got into highschool, I wouldn't have been such a loser.

Comic books and wrestling is just soap operas done right, the stories that can be told with a character like David (Legion) is ridiculous. I kind of hope that they start bring in New Mutants though (eh)?

I love that you said you hoped Logan would be a character-based movie, and it really was. Easily one of the best X-Men movies in the past decade, absolutely loved it as a fellow comic book reader! (:

Legion is so damn pretentious. Every episode is written by two guys, one actually writing the script while the other stands behind him reaching around to jerk him off while whispering "you're awesome, you're awesome".

Unless I'm misremembering Ozymandeus CREATES the creature at the end and then teleports it to NYC and tries to unite the world against an imagined invader.

That is correct, the only difference from the comic as opposed to the movie is tool that Oz uses to unite humanity under the fear of an external enemy. The tool though was an inspired one and i personally think it work much better in movie than the one used in the comic.

Just watch EtS on youtube and just HAD to comment.

As I mentioned in the comments on youtube, some people's brains are wired ONLY to try to figure out how things work together, usually creative and intelligent people. Sitting back and watching Legion and not caring how anything fits is not an option. Our brains simply dont work that way.

Non-linear storytelling can be detrimental to a story, such as with Westworld and Mr. Robot (sorry guys, but those shows are overrated in my opinion; well, I say opinion...), or it can actually work to make it a better story, like in Cloud Atlas, Memento, and several Tarantino films. But intentionally confusing your audience is not a good idea...sorry.

I just watched the first two episodes of Legion because of this and holy shit! It's amazing! I'm usually very fidgety when watching something (like on the phone a lot and stuff) But man, when watching this I just look at the screen and I'm mesmerized. My brain is just working, constantly trying to figure stuff out and it's great! I think I have never seen a show that just takes up all of my attention like this one does!

I'm sorry Jon, but I love The Wolverine. I think it is really cool to see what superheros are like without their powers. Seeing Logan run around Japan not being able to heal but still having to protect Mariko is really interesting. And the moment when he gets the healing back is fucking awesome. It's a shame the movie derails in the end with Logan pretty much fighting a robot but everything before that was awesome.

One of the reasons I started watching was 1. because on is on the show. I know everyone gives him shit out of love but he deserves more direct love, and 2. Legion is one of those shows where I haven't watched yet but Gus thought it would be dumb but turned full circle.* So 3. I have to watch it!

Legion seems interesting and might actually help me with my current obsession which is "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" It's weird, it's wonderful, it's funny but also emotional. It's also the type of show where you can either theorize the shit out of EVERYTHING or just enjoy the ride! And I really need to stop thinking about it because I can't go one like this until Season 2 which is in October... So thanks for showing me Legion I guess xD

The best thing about Legion is that you always have the "This could 100% still be inside his mind from episode 2." That level of questioning is very rare in a show that actually has backstory and other mediums of work done beforehand (comics etc.)

I actually had a good time watching the show Jon, will keep up with this show in the future.

I know you love X-men Jon, but what do you think about the upcoming Iron Fist show and it's build to The Defenders?

I love the ride that Legion is, but I feel like it's focused more on being aesthetically pleasing than having substance. When you spend hours slowly developing characters with only a few minutes advancing the plot, it feels sluggish.

I really think the statement about sequels simply isn't true anymore. It was for a time in the 2000's but not anymore. Really it can be about 50/50 for good sequel's. I mean, Dark Knight, Winter Soldier, Civil War, Ouji: Book of Evil, Conjuring 2, John Wick: Chapter 2, Logan, Force Awakens, Days of Future Past, Mad Max: Fury Road and more... I mean, there are a lot of bad sequels too, but by this point there is about as much of a chance of a sequel being good as there is being bad. You're applying an old stereotype to today, where it simply isn't true.

The ending in the graphic novel of watchmen was basically the same as the movie, a faked alien attack to unite humanity is not that different from a faked superhero attack to unite humanity, I read the graphic novel first and love both.

Also it was Iron man 3 you're thinking of not 2.

"Ozymandias uniting everyone against a common enemy and Doctor Manhattan accepting that"

Did you read the comic, because that is still what happened there. And there were no interdimensional aliens SPOILER the creature at the end was created by the team of scientists and artists requrited by Ozymandias -- there is chatter throughout the story about all these people going missing, and towards the end it's shown that they've been on an island working on what they think is a thing for a movie, and they get  blown up on a boat. The monster is teleported into NY via Ozymandias' teleportation machine.

But it's not the end that I hated. It was how the aesthetic was so overbearing and overly dark, and all the Zack Snyder slow-mo ramping. My problem with the movie is not the ending when I first thought about walking out during the opening credits

the iron man franchise to me is great but the plot lines and jokes are a little hit and miss. But the third one when he had to infiltrate the mansion without the suit and had to show tony stark was more than a man in suite and really put himself in danger really shows how committed he is to the super hero gig.

I just saw Logan today, and it was pretty decent. The R-rating stuff definitely kept my attention despite sometimes feeling excessive, and it was a pretty long 3 hourish movie. It was heavy handed though, super super depressing. Also I didn't see a Stan Lee cameo at all.

I thought Logan was ok, but as I watched it I began to feel like I had seen this before. Then it hit me, its basically Wolverine Origins and Zombieland mashed together. I mean I liked the movie but the pacing and tone felt very similar to the 2 movies. I mean it even had a scene with a farm couple again. ( not spoiling anything from it )
