Have they ever talked about The King's avatar? Interesting eSports drama that just finished it's first season made in China. Might be interesting since they make one of the most popular foreign anime that made its way to Japan and King's Avatar is being dubbed in Japanese too now.

I don't care if you talk about new anime or old ones, just talk about different ones. All you've talked about for the last three months is My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan, and Shirobako. It's gotten kinda stale, to be honest.

Each season of anime does last for three months. Any anime they will talk about is going to be at least three months or more like My Hero Academia.

am I missing something where do they constantly talk about my hero besides saying its a thing that exists or the occasional community service question. Also no duh they they have been talking about attack on titan and shirobako all season they are the 2 shows they are following this season.

I know how long an anime season is, but there ARE other shows besides these three coming out right now.

They've acknowledged that there's a lot of anime going on. They've also said that there is no way they could cover all of the anime going on each season without the show being like 5 hours long. They pick and choose a couple anime each season to talk about, in this case My Hero Academia, AoT Season 2, an Shirobako. They literally said that at the beginning and end of the previous and current seasons.

So instead of having a 5 hour episode, they have one episode that's 12 hours long spread out between 12 weeks. Because that makes sense. And they don't have to talk about every show every week. And if they did do that, it would still be the same thing week after week, which is what I'm talking about in the first place.

Pluto is Naoki Urasawa's adaption of an Astro Boy story called "The Greatest Robot on Earth". I haven't heard anything about it being 8 episodes which worries me a bit since I doubt 1 episode = 1 volume isn't enough time to cover all of it. I did see the link dump about it saying it was 8 long episodes but who knows what long means.

I don't think it matters if it's older or newer...more of two shows that have a different atmosphere than the other

Gray mentioned Kakegurui at the end of last season, that could be a great show for book club (in terms of a new show). I think my hero is so popular that you guys would have it be a discussion topic anyway, so making it a book club would feel like a bit of a waste to me since you can talk about other shows during that time (Although you all love it and so do I so it's not like I would mind).

As for older shows a fairly popular one would be "your lie in April". It would cover the "non-action/non-shounen" category of anime club. A less well-known show would be "shiki". It's a thriller type show dealing with what defines a monster.

In general I think having the old show/new show works pretty well for seasons that seem like they don't have too many good shows in them but I really enjoyed it when you covered 2 new shows. I guess both work it just depends on what's airing.

I'm gonna say what i said last time you threw the question of what shows you're going to cover to the public, and it's that the conversation on anime can't always be about current ones, as it's just too limiting to say 'too bad, you were too early so you're not really worth talking about now'.
so yet again i'm casting my vote for covering a current anime and an older anime.

As for a recommendation... i can't think of anything that's not too long or too short...
Oban Star-Racers, maybe? it's one of the earlier Thomas Romain shows, and it might be a neat opportunity to talk about Japanese/foreign co production and french anime-esque shows?
It actually has a pretty decent English dub, too.

I might be too late, but the north american Shirobako blu ray, at least for volume 1, do NOT have the OVA. Don't know about Volume 2, but it's 2 discs as opposed to volume 1's 1 disc, so it's possible Volume 2 has both for some reason.

I prefer at least one older show for anime club, since I'm relatively new to anime and want to catch all the classics and buy them on blu ray since I don't have the best internet connection. Just my opinion.

My votes for next season would be Escaflowne (which I think everyone's familiar with) or Grimgar, which looks like a watercolor painting but would sound cliche if I described the plot (but it's not). That, or it could be less organized like the pilot seasons. I mean, it kind of arose from everyone talking about what they were watching independently and everyone just happened to watch Erased. It felt more natural back then, not that I have anything against the current format.

To answer Cole's question about Anime Club, I personally liked it a lot this season when you covered an "older" show and a current show. There are so many great shows out there already and some really interesting shows coming up that I think it's the best compromise between being ahead of the curve and contributing the the greater ongoing anime conversation. Hope that makes some sense.

I like the idea of you guys covering one series that is currently airing, and one that has already completed. This way, for some people who may not have time in the summer or their work week to keep up with only currently airing anime, they can also enjoy something that's already aired.

So the next book club shows I don't know about a new title, as nothing has grabbed my attention however for older shows I would recommend Maoyu. Maoyu is about (and don't let the synopsis fool you) about bettering the world using new technology and ideas in an anime fantasy world. The best way to think of it is as a game of civilization but how real people and the world would react. I would compare it to Spice and wolf in how the story is driven and written. Would also recommend spice and wolf. PS I know I'm not selling this well . . .

I agree completely about it being too serious, the main reason I suggested it be Cole explained was due to the fact that it's only on anime strike so it might be too difficult to access for anime book club. But it's hands down one of my new personal favorites and I just wanted to spread the word about it one way or another.

I really like it when they do 1 new show and 1 old show, although even if both are new I'm ok with that! For an old show i would love to see them cover Hibikie Euphonium or Your Lie in April. For new shows It would be awesome to see them cover Owarimonogatari 2 but there is a lot of context with the rest of the Monogatari series so that would be probably hard to go in blind.Although, that ballroom show would also be an awesome watch I think. While not that old I'd like it if you'd watch Grimgar of Ash and Fantasy... its like Log Horizon and Re zero, I've never watched re:zero but It's definitly similar but darker than log horizon. People show up in a fantasy world with game like mechanics and they have no idea how they got their (or that its a game). Or Magi, magi is cool, 2nd season is better than the 1st but the 1st isn't bad.

For next season there is a lot I'd want to see talked about from manga adaptations alone, but if I had to narrow it down...

'Centaur no Nayami' would be one. The manga is really up and down with whether it's entertaining or being weirdly preachy or just bizarre for the setting it had established. But that's all the more reason I'd like to see more opinions on it.

(Of course it might not follow the manga that closely)

And whatever '18if' is because it looks really strange.

As for past Anime to check out, still throwing my hat down for 'The Tatami Galaxy.'

But failing that, Angel Beats (as Clannad might be too long of a commitment)

If it's hard to find time to cover it all, maybe try covering them in separate groups. 2 or 3 people each take a new show while altogether everyone watches a past one.

AFAIK, having an account for a different region of a digital store is not illegal. It might be against an EULA or TOS (entering false information like a billing address would probably be the issue here) and your account might get banned, but I don't think digital distributors care where you're actually from, as long as you're buying stuff on their platform.

I have European, US and Japanese accounts for PSN (as do plenty of other people) that I've used to purchase games for cheaper and games that aren't available in Europe. So far I haven't heard of anyone being banned for having one of these accounts.

I'm all for one new anime and one "classic" anime. If it's something I've already seen, it'll be cool to get everyone's interpretation of it. If it's something I haven't seen, that will give me the chance to put it on my list and catch it with everyone else.

If you're taking suggestions for older anime, I don't know how many of you might have caught Outlaw Star on Toonami block back in the day, but it's always been one of my favorites, and I think it might strike a chord with Miles and Grey, given some of their interests.

I've really been wanting a "classic" (mid 90s or earlier) anime and a current anime to contrast each other for several seasons now.  I think that the hard part of this though is finding a legal streaming source for a lot of these shows; season 1 of Magic Knight Rayearth would be good and might be somewhere that is reasonably accessible.

Or perhaps instead of watching a "classic" series along side a current series, perhaps they could watch a new series that they cover week to week, but also cover different classic anime features and deep dive those as part of the book club.  This would give them a way to hit on several genre; from horror to comedy to slice of life to sci-fi to action adventure.  Demon City Shinjuku, Project A-ko, They were Eleven, Akira, Perfect Blue, Curse of the Undead Yoma, and Armitage III come to mind for me; I am sure there are tons of others.

I was so happy when you guys first started doing Shirobako, I'd seen it three times before, then I tried to keep at pace with you guys but I watched all the episodes again after your first two episodes.
