so Kerry mentions that he hopes that season 2 of aot was just a bad season they needed to get out so that they could come back and make season 3 really good.

Is that what rooster teeth considers season 4 of RWBY so they can make season 5 good ? cause aside from the graphics season 4 sucked. trailer for season 5 is good but if they fuck up season 5 I will never watch RWBY again.

Name for US made 3D animation: "Western style anime"

Finally got around to watching this episode (been working all weekend long), and I'm glad I did. Wonderful breakdown and discussion of the production and industry of 3D animation.

My suggestion for a term for US-made 3D anime would be:

    "Animeigo". ( アニメゴ or アニメ英語)

It is a portmanteau of "Anime" and "eigo", which is the Japanese word for "English" (as a language). Since the line is being blurred so much lately, the only difference becomes if the production was first produced with English voice overs, or Japanese ones.

Nice to see a mention of Frame Arms Girl. While the 3D used for it isn't too amazing, it works really well considering the fact that the girls are plastic models. It's made monday my favorite day of the week since I get a nice does of CMGDCT (cute mecha girls doing cute things).

It's better that this season of Attack on Titan is 12 episodes because the next arc doesn't work well as a season-ender. The next arc is the true test for people to stick with the series or not.

A term for 3D CGI Western anime needs to be easy to say, snappy and interesting to say with out being to complicated, i also think that terms like that need to be able to be said in the following sentence with out sounding to weird, "yo/oh well, im going home to watch an ____, OK". for insistence saying "yo, im going home to watch a Anime/Cartoons, ok" sounds some what natural. so in that case the following word are what i think sound decent for 3D Anime:

Animotion, as in 3D Animated Motion or because 3D theoretically has the potential to show emotions better then 2D.

Projection, this one was a random one, which has links to cinema but still pretty random.

Layer, because you talked about how the process of making 3D anime has painted backgrounds some times being behind 3D models like there layered.

Hardlight, this one was chosen because it sounds cool,

U.V. : "yo, im going home to watch a UV, ok", sounds all right and UV stands for Uncanny Valley which is what all 3D anime and western anime are technically positioned in.

but im not the best at naming things so really take your own swing at things.

Having watched episode 10 of attack on titan. I really hope it pulls Kerry back. Since it's finally gonna delve into some plot.
Lucky for them, since the Mangaka is letting the anime bring forward a ton of plot details. If it were the manga, you'd have to wait another 40 chapters for all this info you're gonna get. xD

I'm not a big fan for that reveal so soon. It just will make the anime-only people wondering what's going on for a very long time. Also they won't remember this part when they get the critical piece of information to tie the whole thing. I feel like they could have shown part of it without ruining stuff for later on.

I LOVE Saint Seiya (I'm mexican and as Yssa said, it was huge here) so I watched the 3D movie when it was released here. I'm a 3D animator too, so the animation amazed me! The expressions where great and I loved most of the technical choices in it. But as a Saint Seiya fan... I just coudn't enjoy it. Maybe I'm so much into the anime and manga, because I didn't like at all the changes in the story and in the characters. It was a good movie, but to me it wasn't a good SS movie :/

The people saying "the animation" is better is using a different defintion for animation than what you are when you are describing what an animator does.  The people are referring to how the final product looks; because they define animation as being the final product.

Also, these last couple AoT episodes especially and this season in general is just laying the foundation for more of the story.  It is setting up the plot for future points in the series.  That is why I think that it is just the 12 episode season rather than a 24-26 episode season.  The story arc covered this season would not exactly fit well as half of a season with what comes next, and if they tried to make it into a 24 episode season it would have been unnecessarily slow and filled with filler.

Also, having read further into the manga (though I'm not completely current yet), I am surprised that Yssa thinks that the studio was setting this up as a cut off point for the anime.  I think that the set up of this season was such that they could produce a quality product in between their other responsibilities as well as packaging the season to sell well; and not breaking up future story arcs between seasons.  I would not be surprised if we get a 24 episode season 3 starting next spring, summer or fall.

I wanted to like Blame!, I really did, it seemed like such a cool premise. Everyone on Fan Service seemed to mostly focus on technical problems, though it may have been because they wanted to talk about 3D animation, but for me I didn't really notice the technical problems and I think it might be because I was distracted by storytelling and plot problems. It seemed like they would set a rule for the universe and then they would just disregard it for plot convenience. The most obvious of them is the barrier to protect the village, why does it not effect fake Tae and Killy, and if it doesn't effect them why has the city never sent in one of these before, speaking of fake Tae why is she immune to the super powerful laser. When Killy lifted up the rubble hiding Cibo I was shocked but when no one in the movie said anything I just assumed that it was something humans could do in that universe but apparently it's not and Killy can only do it because he's a robot, there is so much of this type of thing in this movie. Storytelling wise the first half of the movie is so full of awkward exposition that if it wasn't for the fact that I knew they were going to talk about it on Fan Service I would have turned it off.

Attack on Titan I simultaneously liked the episode and was annoyed with the series. Just as an episode it was good, we got some character development and some good buildup and I liked it. as an episode in season 2 it annoyed me, there is only 12 episodes this season, there are only 3 left and now we've spent 2 episodes building up to what will probably be a very cool fight, we haven't learned anything, we almost did this episode but then Ymir shut up. I don't know if anyone remembers this but they just discovered that the wall is made of titans and they've done nothing with that plot, I think the wall cult priest was in the background of the flashback in episode 6 and I don't think he's had lines since episode 2. My point is I don't think we've covered a lot and given the weird production hell this show has gone threw that's concerning.

So, not to be that guy, but for the first time in several weeks, I have not been super thrilled about the special guest and centered topic.

Now, let me clarify something here. I thought Erin seemed like a cool lady, but you guys utterly screwed her.

Let's take a look at the last few weeks of guests. You brought on translators, series managers, and voice actors to talk about the kind of stuff they do on the regular as a part of their job. They each got a nice amount to say and talk about, and they got a lot of people listening intently, because they were topics that the FS team knew much less about, so it was a learning experience for them as much as us.

This time, you brought on the still animator to talk about 3D animation, A TOPIC THE MAJORITY OF THE MAIN CAST WORKS AT ON A DAILY BASIS. And then you COMPLETELY dominated the topic and left almost no room for her to talk, because you're far more intimate with the topic than Erin will EVER be, as was pointed out by her at one point.

Don't get me wrong, I love hearing about the behind the scenes stuff, especially with the 3D animation. But don't bring on a guest to talk about a topic that is your forte and leave them high and dry. That absolutely should have been a topic saved for when you had a special guest that was ALSO a 3D animator.

I don't know. I just feel like Erin barely got a say in all episode, and I would have loved to hear her talk more about topics she's knowledgeable about and passionate about. She likes 3D animes, sure, but she just didn't have the expertise to keep up in the conversation, and I think that was a serious misstep for the episode.

I understand the drive to go straight for "plot hole fever" but honestly I actually really liked Reiner's cracked psyche. Think about it, these kids are basically covert operatives, at the same time as being living WMD's, specifically the ones that have shaped the majority of the lives of the people they are infiltrating, and deal with on a daily basis. Just the first aspect has several well known afflictions tied to it (soldiers "going native", undercover cops becoming actual criminals, etc.), but throw in the fact you personally have brought so much suffering to the people you spend so much time with and they haven't a clue and treat you as a brother, it makes perfect sense for him to break trying to maintain that duality. The previous episode sure, absolutely that was largely a waste of time (though as of ep 9 the anime has not deviated much from the manga at all, so if you have problems with the anime, at least until this point you won't find it any better in the source material (also the illustration is significantly compromised)), but this episode was very important. It just wasn't actiony. I think really people are just frustrated that something so huge just happened and it ended rather swiftly, and people are just aching for more of it and inappropriately but understandably condemning the things that happened afterwards for not being more. Like chasing a high. Having read the manga I have a pretty good feeling of where they intend to end this season and... unfortunately yeah they are going to have to fill for time a bit (hence ep 8 and while I'm hopefully wrong, probably a bit more before the end of season... unless they decide to veer far from the manga which I hope they don't... no more titan merging bs from S1 pls).

The opinions on BLAME! really kind of surprised me.  I saw it recently, and I really, really enjoyed it.  A couple caveats:

-I'm not a fan of 3D animation, but the 2D style they tried to emulate looked really good to me.  Personally, THAT helped pull me in.
-I haven't read the manga, but have read enough into it (wikipedia, tvtropes) that I'm familier with the background, so a couple things that could've been explained better weren't an issue for me.

To me, BLAME! is cyberpunk dystopia in its purest form, and a huge part of this world in general is the bigness of it.  Not only is the setting huge, the time frames are vast as well.  In this world, there is NO such thing as pure human anymore.  Heck, the most human character (Cibo) spends half the movie as a rotting head and torso (which I thought was brilliant), and ends up as an arm.  It is so far in the future, and humans have augmented themselves so much, there's really no difference anymore between man and machine.  It's less "human vs robot" and more " 'human' vs Safeguard", in which human can be any combination of flesh and metal.  Just with a human consciousness.

Another way to look at it is the Ship of Thesus paradox- if you replace parts of a boat, at what point is it no longer the original boat?  Humanity in BLAME! have passed that point so long ago, the question is no longer relevant.  It seemed to be implied that's part of the reason humanity lost control of the city- current humans are so far removed from their ancestors the city no longer recognizes them AS human.

Again, different strokes for different folks- I realize a LOT from the manga was left out of this film (as was necessary), and it wasn't perfect, but again I'm pretty surprised that the.... not "negative" views exactly, but definitely less than enthusiastic reception was more or less unanimous across the board.

I'm right with Kerry on AoT this week. I loved season 1 to death but I've been steadily losing interest in season 2 and this episode downright made me angry. Literally nothing worthwhile happened, and the whole narrative structure is kind of a shambles at this point. I hate to admit it but if they're trying to drive manga sales they got me good, because the piss poor telling of a good story is making me want to ditch the show in favour of the manga.

'Plot Fatigue' may very well be the reason they adapted SPOILER so much earlier than the manga in today's episode. Tease a lot of information that doesn't get fully explained until SPOILER to help spark theories and discussion among the anime onlys.

Also how do I get spoiler tags working? Clicking the eyeball while the text is highlighted doesn't do anything for me.

To me I think the hardest thing that people don't talk about with 3D anime is lip sync. Which is what people that I've seen bash RWBY talk about in Season 1 and while yes, it did bother me there were enough tricks used to keep me distracted enough that I didn't really notice. This is not really what happened with Berserk 2016 because after only 5 min of the show I saw the lip sync going all over the place even worse than the Golden Age movies. There are times where the animation is just way too jarring in 3D productions that I outright don't check allot of them out. In fact when it is a 3D show I'll more than likely outright not watch it. I know that's short sighted of me but I tend to go with my gut rather than solider on through.
