"Look at all this data we're giving you.  I don't know what any of it means, but there you have it.  Science." I must've been one of those zombies because I was dying when I heard that.

Love the idea behind this, the whole time I was trying to place myself in their situation and the level of depth perception you must lose with these different cameras must be incredible! Imagine how disorienting it must be!

People have mentioned the fixed camera, but the only part I take issue with was the need to fiddle with the keys/locks in the third-person and fixed camera trials.  That was an exercise in impossibility when you can't see the key or the keyhole.  Going by feel only accomplishes so much.  I know in the real world that would be necessary, but actually having to use the key was never part of the games, doors would just open so long as you had them.  Just me being overly pedantic.  Fantastic episode, though!

Not sure how doable it would have been but I feel like that could have been solved with a card system, like something that would just scan quickly rather than fiddling with keys. That way the test would focus more on shooting/surviving. But then, not sure how many door models take two cards to unlock, so might not have worked anyway. Still, like you said, incredible episode. This season's been great.

Loved the episode, atmosphere was amazing. Huge congrats to the crew who worked on this one!

Two things that bugged me though.

    1. I feel like the 3rd person camera angle was way too close to Gavin and Michael. I wish they had brought it back and had them in the centre of the frame, or If they wanted it that close I wish they had been placed much further left of frame.

    2. They should have given them some form of aim/targeting assist for the fixed camera angle

Fixed camera was kinda bullshit. How the fuck were they supposed to shoot what was coming? (Fixed camera games are bullshit anyway, though, so I guess point proven.)

You didn't see, that was the whole point of it. It's also pretty hilarious you'd call, for example, the classic Resident Evil games "bullshit", or that you'd think that fixed camera games being "bullshit" is some sort of proven thing.

I'd like to see Michael and especially Gavin do an actual IPSC or IDPA course with real guns. The big thing in those being, of course, reloading by muscle memory while keeping eyes and sights on the target. Michael seemed to be able to reload by feel, while Gavin had to hold the gun in front of the camera.

Of course they can't do a thing with real guns, because a) no excuse to make a video of it, and b) Gavin would shoot himself in the foot, because he is English and hasn't had the rules of guns beaten into him from birth (see the Fallout episode of Immersion where he plugged Tyler). I'm a Texan, and I follow gun rules when holding anything with a trigger, even Windex and handheld power tools.

For the non-southern/rural US ppl, the Rules of Guns as laid down by Saint Colonel Jeff Cooper are thus:

    1. Always assume all guns are always loaded -- even if you've personally cleared it by opening it up and seeing no round in the chamber, sticking your finger in the chamber, and can see light through the barrel (looking from the chamber end, ofc, see #2) and drop an object in one end and it comes out the other, treat them as if they are loaded, just in case.

    2. Never let the muzzle end point at anything you don't want destroyed -- just in case you failed to clear it properly. (Hence all the "Guns down, guns down!" from Jack in the Extra Life stream.)

    3. KEEP YOUR DAMN FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON TARGET AND YOU MEAN TO RUIN YOUR TARGET'S DAY -- the Golden Rule, follow this one and you won't do a manslaughter if you failed at the first two.

    4. Identify your target and what is behind it -- make sure you're shooting the right target, and try not to cause any collateral damage if you miss or the bullet overpenetrates (hence the bigass backboard for the paintball firing range).

that last camera angle for fixed wass just unfair. if thats all Micheal could see no wonder the zombies got them. He could only see when they were right on top of him and had to reload.

    • Delivery_McGee FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

He could've/should've taken a step forward and changed the camera occasionally for recon/shooting, then stepped back to let Gavin work on the locks while the coast was clear.

    • FlamingIceGiant FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

@Delivery_McGee I don't think that's how the cameras worked. I think whoever was in front changed the camera angle. So both of them would have had to take a step away from the door to switch the camera angle which would have delayed opening the door. It still might have been better than firing blindly though.

    • blameTheDog FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

The last camera angle was for whoever was unlocking the door. It seems like the zombies gave them more time to unlock the door compared to the previous rounds. So if there was one thing that was unfair for Michael during that round, it was being partnered with Gavin. But damned if that scene where Michael was being attacked blind in another room with the camera on Gavin wasn't funny. Immersion gold!

Cool i can't wait to start watching this! Wasn't expecting a new immersion.

This was a lot of fun to watch! Great work iv'e really enjoyed the past few immersions. Not that previous episodes sucked or anything but there is a noticeable amount of increased quality. I love the sets, the scripts/role playing, everything is really neat!

  • Synchronizor FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Great video, but I have to wonder whether the zombies were actually shocking them, or they were just pretending to and the buzzing sound was edited in later.  I feel like there wasn't enough girlish screaming from Gavin to convince me that it was for real.

Either way, I'm still loving this season.  Best yet, I think.

I think the fixed-angle was a little unfair at the end with that last shot... or Gavin/Michael didn't think to go to a fixed-angle to where they could see zombies, take care of them, then manage the door.  Also, why they didn't they use a "hit system", where they would get 3-tazes for each time a zombie grappled them?  Remember, in Resident Evil - the FIRST mansion one - you get as many chances to push zombie off as you have the health for it.  Just me being picky honestly, and although I enjoy seeing the lab rats fail... I also like to see them succeed.
