hmmmm.... i dont know... am i the only one who feels immersions have gotten....lamer ? and not more awesome? they seem to be going too specific for my taste , and keep demanding more and more physicality from non-physically trained talent? idk does this make any sense? maybe im odd one out

This one was sponsored so EA probably had a lot to do with what they were doing instead of it being a normal immersion.

Yeah, I still enjoy them but it seems like every one of these new ones is almost all ADR and no genuine reactions. Maybe the old ones had a bit of ADR as well but it seemed like these are all about the sets and not so much the humor of the lab rats being in weird experiments.

I agree. Immersion used to be about how to get as much comedy as they could out of a video game idea, but the newer ones tend to be more about "how can we make this video game idea into a cool looking video". The comedy just isn't there as much, and that's what made the older Immersions good. It's not just this one either. Last of Us wasn't spectacular, Resident Evil was cool but didn't really give them much to work with, while this one was neat they didn't have any freedom to act or do much, the Warthog flip was basically just showing off that they could flip a jeep. Even on the rest, while they have had funny moments, they never really captured the style of the first couple of seasons. They older ones were "let's do this in as ridiculous of a way as possible", while the newer ones have been "let's make this as realistic as we can". It's not bad per-se, but it's just not as good.....

The charge DEFINITELY wasn't as useful as being able to get behind cover.  That's pretty much the ONLY reason they got hit.  Gavin didn't get hit ONCE in the last round and he's GAVIN.  Just shows that you don't need super powers in a gunfight so long as the enemy bullets don't hit you.

This episode looked amazing (the production on these seems to get better and more impressive every time), but the idea felt a little confused. Maybe it's because I've never played Mass Effect, so I don't have the association of what the attack is actually meant to look like, but the test session fell really flat compared to other immersions I've watched.

Yeah. It felt more like it was a better idea on paper. the prod and props team really did a good job though. And I'm not sure how you'd actually emulate the charge as fast and cool looking as it is in the game IRL. No one's fault really and everyone did a fantastic job with what they were given, but it did come off a bit clunky in the end.

probably a piece came through his mouth vent thing. that plastic shrapnel can have some serious legs sometimes. I had a welt almost that big on my ankle once from a friend shooting the ground like 5-6 feet away from me.

      What GinjaNinja23 said.

Of course, it's entirely possibly the helmet shifted and Gavin's head was tilted enough to allow for such a narrow shot to get through.

    • Daks FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold Jersey Devil

It likely bounced up from the hard plastic part of the chest piece. There was no way it million-dollar shotted through the helmet without breaking, the vents weren't big enough.

His head was tilted just far enough up that we got a "magic bullet" moment. It either ricocheted off the chest plate or went up under the helmet because he was looking way up towards the ceiling. Crazy because these helmets gave him more coverage than an ordinary paintball visor and the visors were Lexan and thus super strong!

I mostly agree with everyone else, visually it was interesting but as an episode of Immersion it didn't really come together. After watching the video I don't know whether Charge is a better ability than other biotics, or how a real person would use it beyond the constraints of a game.

The only question this seemed to answer was: if you were rigged up to fly toward a stuntman every 30 seconds, would you?

    Well... yeah.

Not a great Immersion. Its usually actually trying to test something (like how well can you aim while hanging upside down). This one not so much. "After I shoot an enemy, can I then run into them?" Or you could, you know, shoot them with bullets and kill them.

Basically the RT personalities are the only saving grace that made this episode funny ("I hate being on On The Spot!")

    • TheRTV FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold Round Peg in Square Hole

@HalcyonHusky considering they fly Gavin and Burnie and everyone else out to various events around the US and other countries, they could certainly afford to bring them over a few times. Not to mention they could film all their segments over a week or two. RT would just need to plan all the production ahead of time to make it work. A bit more difficult, but worth it to change up the lab rats.

    • HalcyonHusky FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Except most of their immersions are sponsored, or based on a game that just came out, so they would have to plan way ahead of time for all of that. And Gavin and Burnie are far from the level of James and Adam, telling how Gavin is in charge of slowmoguys, a main podcast member, and an achievement hunter, and Burnie is the company's founder. And "afford" and "justify" are two different things, especially since they are a bit busy making a movie, and a round trip from LA to Austin Texas for two people is about $240 a flight in the cheapest of raggedy flights

  • Silenteagle7 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

This felt a little forced, kind of like the sponsorship was all that really drove it.  Immersion has always been great for how realistic they make videogame concepts, and this just felt staged and fake more than organic and interesting like say the mgs one or the pacman one.  I get that the premise was hard to translate so it's less the production team's fault and more whoever decided this was the one thing from mass effect they wanted to be the base of the episode.

This doesn't feel as real as normal immersions. The amount of cuts and weird angles make it seem more "fake" than normal. Still entertaining, but it seems like the sponsorship drove the production of the video and not the genuine desire to make this episode.

This feels less like an Immersion and more like "hey we got money so let's produce something" for the sake of producing something. Plugging in a Xbox and playing Mass Effect would have had the same effect. Entertainment wise it was okay. But was it in the spirit of Immersion? Not really. Compared to the Last of Us or the GTA immersion's this was linear and didn't seek to test their hypothesis. They just sort of did it. Which is why I'd consider it no different than playing the game itself under the perimeter's they set out.

I completely agree here. I immediately thought they could have done something similar to the screen cheating one they did early on, but done it with a over view cam to simulate the environment for undercover fire.
