I like how Burnie does the *licks hand* "salt", it perfectly demonstrated how odd that scene was lol. I would say the movie was mostly good with some big problems, it gets about a 7/10 for me.

In regards to the "Lightspeed" discussion

The speed of light would be far too slow to be useful between star.

If you were travelling at (or near) the speed of light you both would and wouldn't experience the year, from your point of view the trip would be very short, you would see the rest of the universe almost frozen in time and then as you slowed down you would see them experience the entire year in a very short time.

a 32 year old astromech doid is able to plug into, control and in seconds interpret the entire Imperial network of the most advanced spaceship ever created and then also gain control of some of it's functions. I guess R2D2 easily breaching the security of the most sophisticated and top secret weapon/ship at the time isn't as op as taking over a standardized military vehicle....

    Begin Star Wars rant:

I was disappointed by The Last Jedi. That is not to say i didn't enjoy the movie overall They talked about how they liked it better the second time so maybe I should rewatch it. I feel like Rian Johnson watched the Force Awakens once and said "Fuck that movie, I'm going to do whatever I want". I had some major issues with it. First why didn't the First Order just jump in front of them or call in back up. They even said that only the main ship was tracking them, the other ships could have just gone around. Second, the whole casino world bit was terrible and could have completely been avoided. If the Vice Admiral lady had just told Poe the plan, they never would have needed to find another solution, she even goes so far as to not tell Poe when he's pulling a mutiny and is pointing GUNS at her. I don't understand why it was such a big secret that she couldn't tell him in the face of mutiny. Nothing would have changed if she just explained it. In fact her not telling them the plan actually got a bunch of people killed. The guy the pick up on the casino world actually tells the First Order about the little ships escaping to the planet which is what causes them to start shooting at them and blow a bunch of them up(how could they not detect them on their own? And how did he know about that plan?).  This also brings up another point. Where tf where they going when they jumped away from the first order? Did they plan to go to that salt planet or was it coincidence. And if they where planning to go there why didn't they jump closer. Third, people mentioned this during the Force Awakens, but how is Rey so good at EVERYTHING. I don't care how much potential you have, I think it is wrong to able to use the force so easily without any training. Fourth everything about Luke is so completely out of character, yes I know living on a planet by yourself can make you go crazy, but that does not explain his urge to kill Kylo, just because there was a sprinkle of evil. This is the same man that did not kill his already evil father because he thought he could be saved. Fifth, the whole force projection thing was cool but it was not used at an appropriate time. If he was going to die either way, why didnt he actually go. It would have been much more powerful if he was there in person. Sixth Rian Johnson fucking wasted Snoke. He was easily the most powerful character in Star Wars canon so far and would have been an awesome bad guy. He went out like a fucking bitch.

I also had some smaller issues with it.

Benicio Del Toro's character was wasted.

Leia's space thing was weird, and no one said anything about it.

The whole war profiteering on the casino world was super non star wars. It could have been interesting if they expanded on it at all but they didn't. They brought it up then dropped it immediately.

Who was the actual guy they were sent to get on the casino planet, because the guy the saw with the flower did not seem like someone Maz would send them to find.

It would have been and awesome, and what I was expecting, if the person they were supposed to find on the casino planet was Lando.

Rose Finn love was super forced.

Rose crashing into Finns miner ship was extremely stupid as she could have ended up killing both of them.

How did Finn drag Rose all the way back to the base in like 2 seconds without dying.

There was a lot of misplaced humor.

Why  did she need to crash the ship into snokes ship? They show it and a bunch of other ships blowing up, but ultimately it was poitnless since no one important died and they still followed them to the planet anyway.

The dark side hole on the planet Rey goes into was never really explained what it did or how Rey got out.

Also a bunch of sub plots brought up in the Force Awakens where never talked about again. e.i. The Knights of Ren, Rey's connection to the lightsaber.

Dont even get me started on Phasma.

I did like some things about the movie. The Hyperspace ship crash was really cool, and probably my favorite scene in the movie. The connection between Rey and Kylo was also awesome. Adam Driver was easily one of the best actors in the film. The scene with Yoda was awesome. Kylo and Rey fighting together against the guards was another great scene.

You can call me a hater or whatever or try to explain off some plot holes. But the truth is you shouldn't need to or have to do that. I just feel like some things could have been handled much better

    Rant over.

You're right about practically everything. Finn's plot should have had him infiltrating the First Order by the end of the movie. He rejoins the Rebels sometime during Ep IX. The whole point of introducing a Stormtrooper protagonist (who is not a clone... that's a huge reveal in TFA) is to give the audience a view into the First Order's side of the conflict.

I mentioned I enjoyed it for what it was and give it a Matinee viewing but seeing the Questionable stuff a second time did make me have some issues.

The whole reasoning behind Luke's misunderstanding of a dream and Kylo turning and murdering all the jedi did not sit well with me either time viewing the film.

Where were the other Knights of Ren? Were they the padawans with Ben?

The Finn Rose Hacker Storyline in this film could’ve been CUT ENTIRELY. Every Time they went back to this damn subplot it took me out of the film to be honest and it really irritated me. If they were gonna do it it shouldve been Poe and Finn trying to save the crew and Phasma was hunting them for danger imho

SNOAK WAS ALL TALK AND NO ACTION! I mean its cool they killed him off and by going by JUST Empire & ROTJ you had no idea who Palpy's backstory just that he controlled Vader but still Somethin wouldve been nice.

PHASMA was BADASS FOR like 3-5 minutes and then gets the fuckin shaft, She did better than Boba fett.

And 1 thing I FUCKIN LOATHE in any media is forced romance that comes the FUCK OUTTA NOWHERE with no indication. AND I LOOK, OH BOY thats 1thing I admit. I have HAWKEYE LEVEL VIEWING when coming to that to see if its valid & if its not GET THA F*CK OUT OF HERE. I went in a second time watching this thoroughly the whole thing between Finn and Rose and NOTHING, there was nothing there until the last second when she kissed him. The Kylo Rey thing you knew was going nowhere since he went crazy and did all that foul shit but this GODDAMN.

My father even said when we walked out of the theater

“I liked the film just fine 4/5 but to be honest adding that new romantic subplot outta nowhere was some stupid ass buuuuullshiit”

I think this movie led up to a reveal that Poe is force sensitive! I think he can't be that good of a pilot and the part where Ray gets hurt and he intently wakes up and looks towards the ship that she is in. That could have been a scene transition but it really felt like it was more. Also there where small signs that Leia was force sensitive in Empire Strikes Back.

The way I understood the whole Cruiser thing was that they sped up to top speed away from Snoke's Ship, and due to being more nimble they accelarated faster, but their top-speeds were the same. So by the time Hux realized what they did, kicked on the boosters, and got to top speed, the distance was such that the canons couldn't go trough the shields, but their top-speeds were the same so they couldn't catch them, but they couldn't get away either.

I agree that could be the case but why not just jump ahead of them and cut them off or call in reinforcements. Were meant believe that the first order has taken over every major system at that point so there's no way that that is there whole fleet not to mention they have other star destroyers in the fleet the could use

@Vorduul that depends on your perception of "Top speed" If Top Speed is the point where the thruster is outputting at maximum capacity, with an ever increasing speed. My sentiment still stands. Especially that close to the planet where gravity would be effecting the larger ship more strongly than the smaller one. So the Cruiser gets going before the larger ship can, they both reach max thruster efficiency, and an equilibrium is created.

    • Consumerism FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

@Dex122sg My guess is that Jumping to Lightspeed then returning within range would be incredibly hard to do precisely, and the Cruiser would simply alter course. And Hux saw no reason to call for assistance because he was 100% certain there was no way they could escape. He could track them trough Lightspeed, and there were no more rebels to come to their aid. The way he saw it, he could not lose. So why call for aid?

I hate whenever people say any research is a waste of time. If we only asked questions we immediately needed to know the answer to for a narrow and specific purpose then it would be impossible for us to have the level of understanding, technology, and modern medicine we have now. Otherwise we probably wouldn't have made it any further than other great apes. Basic research is extraordinarily valuable. It builds a permanent foundation thats useful for the whole world.

Star Wars The Last Jedi Spoilers: I think the "salt flat' scene is there to allude that luke was a projection because he never made a footprint throughout the whole fight while they showed kylo slide his foot across the salt. I noticed luke had no footprints and didn't know why. I though he was using the force to float above the ground like he used to catch himself when Rey pushed him, but then i realized he had no footprints because he was a projection when they showed him disappear.

I think it's plausible that Benecio del Toro's character is Rei's dad. He's a scumbag smuggler who doesn't care about anything/anyone. If he's not then there was no point in having his character in the film aside from getting BdT in the movie.

I think the point of his character was to show Finn the gray in the world, with that scene where he shows him the owner having sold ships to both the bad and good guys. Plus the necklace and everything after, he did good and bad things

I think that's probably where Finn developed as a character and became a full fledged rebel instead of someone trying to get out of dodge, he realized if he didnt stand for anything he was just as bad as all those people in the Casino.

And physicsvise pulling yourself trough space is "easy" she weighs nothing so it would require very little force power to pull it off.

I know it's not really canon anymore, but in some of the Extended Universe content, she's a naturally stronger force user than Luke, so it was cool that they did that little nod to the EU, even if it felt a little shoehorned in.

I always loved how Futurama approached the "Speed of Light" conundrum. It was something along the lines of scientists just sped up the speed of light.

No one went light speed into the death star because they didn't have a fleet at the time and the death star has so much mass to it the ship would never go all the way through. And the cost of life and material doing such a move would not be worth it since the rebellion was always in such small numbers.

They wouldnt have to go all the way through it. just smash into the laser disk part so they cant blow up planets.
