About Gavin and the argument of “If you're not doing anything wrong then you have nothing to hide and you shouldn't worry about cameras and microphones everywhere”:

At 1:39:01 Gavin admits that mass surveillance is a problem but then goes on to say that it's a lost battle and we should just surrender to it and not try to fight it - "It's only gonna get worse, and it's easier to be not paranoid now than later have to go over it. I've already come to terms with it. I get where you're coming from, it's terrifying and worrying, but in my opinion of you're not doing anything wrong then what's the worst that could happen”
This is a horribly defeatist message to send to anyone who's watching.

For the “doing nothing wrong” part - who's deciding what is considered “wrong”? “Wrong” for who? If anyone in the government/police/etc. doesn't like/approve of what a citizen is doing for some reason (even if you're not braking any laws, like participating in political activism for example*) they can just deem it “wrong” and make the life of that person a living hell until they surrender and promise to get in line with the government's stance on everything.
*Historical activism like women's rights, African American rights, the peace movement, etc., could have been crushed under a mass surveillance system.

For the “nothing to hide” part - we all have things we wish to keep private/secure, whether it's all of our photos and videos, browsing/search history, personal conversations with friends and family, passwords, bank/credit card details, purchase history, social security number, medical history, the places we visit, when and for how long we are out of the house, etc.
And what about the people we care about? Our families, significant others, children, friends... do they not deserve privacy and security? Nobody should be able to watch them and listen to their most private moments through their webcams/phones/etc
We all have possibly said and done things that we regret or feel embarrassed about. We all have things that happen to us throughout our lives (whether big or small) that we wish to forget and leave behind. But when every little moment is recorded and documented, then everything could come back to haunt us and there'll be nothing we can do about it.
And there's also the privacy/security of people like political activists/political opponents, lawyers, journalists, doctors, judges, and any other profession that has private/confidential/sensitive information that people who weren't authorized shouldn't have access to (For they might use it maliciously for their own gain. For example, a politician or a police-worker that's under investigation can learn everything about the investigators/complainers and use that against them to silence them, or learn what they know and cover the their tracks).

It basically gives unlimited powers over our lives to anyone with access that system, including but not limited to people at the government who the citizens might not agree with their views and actions, and wouldn't want them to have the absolute power to quell any citizen objection/dissent. It ensures that citizens couldn't ever bring up criticism about the people in power without fearing the consequences of having their life ruined.

Like Burnie said on one of the podcasts, they're collecting all the information they can just in case they'll ever need to use it against someone.

We must consider the amount of people (government workers/police workers/criminals/hackers/etc.) who'll have/gain access to the mass surveillance system (either lawfully or not) and will get to misuse it to their own interest against anyone they want. Spying/voyeuring, extorting/blackmailing, stealing, harassing. We have no idea how our 24/7 tracking and all of the information that's available on us will be used and by whom.

If I'm not mistaken, the bucket head guy was protesting abuses of those cop lights. Apparently in Moscow they have VIP lanes where you can get a light on top of your car and bypass a lot of traffic. They aren't necessarily cops but possibly people that pay? (or just illegally use those lights). So the guy jumped on the guy's car to knock the light off.

Because Burnie seems to think there is no human involved in the process of accusation.

According to someone that allegedly knows cops that work in that area there is a human being in charge of revising the pictures/case before sending the ticket in the mail.

I work in fast food. Having camera's in the dining room is a deterrent for crime. Places without obvious camera's are more likely to be robbed.
I agree that most traffic camera's are bad. BUT I disagree that there is no good camera. Security camera's are necessary to keep employee's safe. There are both good and bad camera's.

I love how they try to justify arguing against machines. A camera is not going to malfunction just on you. That said, i hate traffic light cameras since there is no allowing for uncontrollable circumstances. I once got a ticket from a red light camera, when i was forced to pull into the intersection to get out of the way of an ambulance. When the judge saw the picture he threw it out, but it was still a waste of nearly 3 hours of my day, and time off from work too.

Just want to point out the Automated Police cameras take multiple pictures for traffic lights. My dad got a ticket driving to work and drove through a red light, spaced it or something he was a 15 year veteran cop. The camera takes a picture every time the light turns red, and a few seconds later it takes a picture and will give you a ticket if you were outside the intersection when\before it turned red but going through when it snaps the second picture. That's how it works and how it can't be flawed at least for traffic lights.

As far as a van I think it triggers the camera with speed then it takes a few pics and a person sits down and judges the distance you traveled between x number of shots. They can only send you a pic on those if you are going marginally over the speed limit as its hard to judge within 10mph

Everyone is allowed to make nazi jokes but it's kind of really rude and insulting to keep making jokes that all Germans are nazis...burn the jews, get in the chamber, yes hilarious...creative too...no one's made that joke before. All Germans were nazis in the 30's and 40's too right? Just like all Americans supported Bush or Trump. Only the people that openly rejected them didn't put themselves or their families in danger for doing so.

Jew here, don't think you guys are Nazis.

Can't speak for Barb, but I know I got a lot of such jokes directed *at* me in an unfriendly manner while growing up. I think at this point a lot of Jews try to seize them and make them their own. That way when some ass is like "Hey, how do you fit 30 Jews in a Volkswagon?" you can just stare at them with crazy eyes and be like "Allow me to demonstrate on you."

(The "punchline" is "in the ashtray")

    • MrZombez

No jokes should be off limits, if it makes you uncomfortable I feel like you should avoid it instead of forcing other people to conform to you. Those jokes have been around forever, and I don't think they're going to go away just because you're offended.

    • Soullstice

Of course you should call out the assholes that make bad jew jokes at you, but if your go to for making fun of germans is lol nazis you're no better than the assholes that make bad jew jokes. Living in Germany for 3 years I can tell you there is farrr more material than that (and Burnie got it). It's one of those things where you shouldn't lower yourself to their level, esp when there has been no provocation to it other than someone mentioning Germans. Germans get annoyed at the people that make shitty jew jokes too. The people that I hear making shitty jew jokes the most are actually Americans. You can make all the lol Germans are nazis jokes you want, but it's still rude and immature.

On the speed camera subject: The camera is not your accuser. Your accuser is the police or city or administrative body in charge of enforcing the speeding laws. The camera is simply evidence.

It's the same as a police officer holding out a speed gun and writing down your number. The speedometer isn't accusing you. The specific officer isn't accusing you.

This may just be me coming from a non-US perspective looking in, but you guys have local police forces that use weapons and technology donated directly from your military, including heavy assault rifles, night vision goggles, helicopters and armored personnel carriers. Intelligence agencies that routinely eavesdrop on everyone they can, secret courts blanket-authorising secret wiretaps and spying, and a billionaire reality TV show star who has declared bankruptcy multiple times as a frontrunner in your presidential election.

I can't help but side with Gavin on the topic of Speeding Cameras

May be different dependant on state, but in Western Australia (at least as far as I know) the cameras take a photo from two points and tracks time and speed of the vehicle to reach the second point. Although there are cases where there are single flash cameras, these are always manned by a officer, Also, if taken to court the "Accuser' is simply the Police for that camera, not the camera itself.

The traffic cameras in California (and I assume most other places) take a picture of both the car and the light to show you running the red light. An equally good question for Burnie, "Why are you paranoid about cameras in public when everyone is carrying around two cameras on their person and most people have them out all the time where they could record you?" You are in public and can be recorded by anyone and you can't do anything about it. Half your podcast camera is from cameras recording people in public and catching funny situations.

Gus and Burnie put cameras at all of Gavin's usual 'haunts' around Rooster Teeth, which they have direct feed to at all times and they send him uh... fake 'tickets'? No, that's lame.. it'd have to be something he hates to do, for doing stuff that he always does. Like every time he picks up the rubber band gun you have Geoff covertly put a finger in his ear/mouth or Micheal just runs in and 'subdues' (tackle) him, because the camera picked up a potential homicide in Achievement City.
