The trouble with public perception of autism is that generalizations are very difficult to make. There are so many characteristics that go into it. Some of us are very normal socially; some of us have no social ability at all. Some of us have high math aptitudes; some of us do not. Some of us are over-sensitive to pain; some of us are over-sensitive to small, annoying sensations such as textures, lights, and sounds. We're not all Rain Men, and we're not all non-functional. The other problem is that it's being over-diagnosed. Autism has a lot of traits that are similar to ADHD and other syndromes. I think the rate at which autism is diagnosed has doubled in the last five or so years, if memory serves.

Asperger syndrome is under the umbrella of autistic spectrum disorders but don't really have the savant tendencies as they are so rare

That thorium thing sounds pretty cool, especially since it's a lot safer. I live a few miles away from Three-mile Island, and everytime there's a threat, everybody around here freaks out. It'd be nice to not have to worry about an accident, especially what happened at the Peach Bottom plant (the guards fell asleep there, and it was a huge problem). Plus there'd be much less waste, and it'd degrade much faster. Maybe they shoud tear down TMI and build a thorium plant there instead...

I completely agree with the PC gaming bit. Nothing pisses me off more than the game I paid for not working (at all, if not properly). L4D2 has pushed me over the edge. Having my game crash with a Steam error right before finishing the finale every time has convinced me to stick to consoles from now on.

You guys really liked No Country for Old Men more than There Will Be Blood? Don't get me wrong, I loved No Country and the Coens are 2 of my favorite film makers, but There Will Be Blood is a modern masterpiece. How No Country for Old Men won the best picture Oscar that year is beyond me. It's a phenomenal movie, but it's no better than a few of the other movies the Coens have made that arguably deserved the award more than that film. Fargo, Barton Fink, Miller's Crossing, The Big Lebowski? Why is No Country the film that got the Coens recognition from the Academy? Because it was based on a McCarthy novel maybe? It feels like when The Departed won best picture despite the fact that Scorsese has made far superior films like Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, and Raging Bull.

I won't get too specific about why There Will Be Blood is superior, but seriously, the film works on so many levels. A simple character study about a man's decent into madness after the "loss" of his son, an allegory for the separation of church and state(symbolized by Daniel and Eli), an allegory for religion vs. capitalism, there's just so many things you can take away from it. And I can't say enough about Daniel Day-Lewis' performance. I personally believe it's the best performance of the past decade, possibly of all-time, because he was able to flawlessly blend naturalistic subtly and over-the-top bravado. I loved the Anton Chigur character in No Country for Old Men, but even his eerily deadpan, manipulative, mind-fucking thing he's got going on couldn't hold a candle to the depth of Daniel Plainview.

Anyway, I had to rant about that, but great podcast as always.

Uninstall and reinstall steam and you can play the game. It'll have to install all the games you have but you won't lose any achievements or progress.

You guys are referring to an Autistic Savant at the start of the Drunktank. Asperger's Syndrome is a high functioning form of autism that is characterized by mild social interaction problems. Most cases come with people who have problems with loud noises and trouble with some concepts but little cognitive impairment. Autistic Savants are very rare.

Not sure if it has been said but for the GTA IV thing have you downloaded Games for Windows Live? Cause I have heard that you need that for something in the game and maybe that will help.

Great Podcast. Hey Burnie the only thing worst than show activist is ignorant sheep activist who have no clue what they are protesting or anything about the situation. Perfect example of this when I was at college people were protesting plans to open a Star-bucks on campus, I asked one of the people why and she was all the star-bucks workers don't get good pay in foreign countries and she had no clue how much money the workers actually make.

The Minneapolis Lakers moved to Los Angeles where there are no lakes. The Oilers moved to Tennessee where there is no oil. The Jazz moved to Salt Lake City where they don't allow music. The Oakland Raiders moved to L.A. and then back to Oakland, no one Los Angeles seemed to notice.

    1) I think that the word "row" is the British slang for argument or fight (pronounced like "wow" but with an 'r'). So "masturbation row" is not a street or something, it's "masturbation rao," as in a disagreement about masturbation.

    2) You guys are absolutely right in that animated movies are always shafted when it comes to the awards shows. That's why they had their own categories created for them - Best Animated Feature and Best Animated Short - because at the time (50s?) there's no way the animated movies would compare to the live action ones. Now, animation is taken more seriously (from the mainstream point of view), so now we think that some animated movies should win Best Picture.

However, just because animated movies are sort of poo-poo'd and usually kept to their own category, doesn't mean they can't be nominated for best picture. In 1992, Beauty and the Beast was nominated for the Best Picture Oscar, losing out to Silence of the Lambs. It was the first animated movie to be nominated for Best Picture. It did, however, win a Golden Globe in 1992 for Best Picture - Musical/Comedy.

    3) Also dead this week is Arnold Stang, the voice of Hanna-Barbera's Top Cat and the Honey Nut Cherrios Bee, as well as many old radio programs.

A RAR file is a compressed file like a .zip file. You download a program (Winrar, Winzip, 7zip) and use that to decompress the folder and viola, you have the file you downloaded.

It's essentially a way to transfer large amounts of data or to save space.
