I learned about the Nazi scientists in Grade 12 history, and had thought it was common knowlege.
I don't think i've ever seen such a clear example of how "common knowlege" isn't exaclty so common in different areas.

That Nazi stuff is hardly news, people have known that since at least the 50s. I've seen a 50s movie on the life of one of the rocket specialists, who didn't see his family for like a year, they also lived in the States, but separated. Might have had Henry Fonda in it, if not starring. Dr. Strangelove from 1964 very obviously had that, the doctor the film is named after keeps trying to Heil, or not Heil. So maybe there was no study saying we (or you, I live in Canada bitches) but people definatly knew.

uhh.. no offense guys, but if you are a ww2 buff like i am, you would know about the Nazi scientist along time ago. The first American rockets were based on the German V2 rockets (which achieved sub-orbital flight). Also, (for more common reference) it has been on the military channel (occasionally the history channel) for at least 6-7 years in documentaries. I don't see why you make it seem like such a big deal.

Only problem I had with the episode was the fake science part about the game theory tree. The logic for it was sound the problem comes from the fact that it doesn't have any weights applied to it.

But I don't really see why people are saying that either. I had heard about the Nazi thing before, sure. But they clearly hadn't and wanted to talk about it. My first reaction wasn't to say, "Oh, that's old news I don't want to hear it." It might have been a bit insightful for some kids on the site who may not have heard about it. I mean in a broader sense, Nazis are old as dirt so does that mean there should be no more mention of Nazis in the podcast? They've brought up old and even obscure things in the past and I don't really see why this is causing an uproar.

I guess I just think it's a bit hypocritical that two over saturized topics, Nazis and the Beatles, are somehow mutually exclusive from eachother in terms of things they complain about talking about.

    In reply to GreyFox785, #93:

I might be wrong but I don't think Geoff and Griffon meant that you have to move on because Monty Python and the Beatles are old. I think they meant it as we should collectively move on and discuss other things. For example, people have been commenting on how they think they remember the nazi scientist thing from before and think its old news (I honestly don't know if it is old news or not). They think we shouldn't be talking about it because its old news. Geoff and Griffon think we shouldn't bother discussing Monty Python and the Beatles for the same (or at least similar) reasons.

  • GreyFox785

I don't understand. How is "They're old." an argument for why people should stop liking the Beatles? I don't care if someone doesn't like them or Monty Python (Of which I am a fan.), but why should I "Move on" because you don't like them? That doesn't seem fair. Cherries have been delicous to me since the beginning or recorded history, should I not like them either? I agree more with Gus, everyone should like what they like reguardless of age. The world's a lot safer that way and a lot less confrontational.

I went through all the comments before I posted and I'm glad I did because you nailed it. So I guess Geoff will be killing himself soon because being old is bad apparently. BTW I'm 41 so this just bugs me a little...well that and I really like the Beatles and Monty Python and probably alot of other "old" things...like my mom.

I really do get impassioned about the "games as art" thing, because I'd say that games have as high a potential for artistry as film. Just look at Mass Effect 2.

Thank goodness Geoff never wanted that mustache. Up until now I've cringed at the Achievement Hunter videos wondering "Why does Geoff think that mustache is a good idea?" Good to know it was for artistic purposes.

I went through my Beatles phase during high school and I think I over-saturated myself with their music, because now I can barely listen to any of their songs.

    Great podcast everyone!

Okay, so what the fuck was that about the "shocking news" about Nazi rocket scientists?

Honestly, when did shit that EVERYONE knew happened become news?

Wait. Maybe there's OTHER shit people need to know about.

This just in: The Earth is round! There's a country called England! Sarah Palin has the mental capacity of a watermelon!

    What The Actual Fuck?

Its been generally known that the U.S. smuggled German Scientists out of Germany. They were smuggled to keep them from the russians who were also looking to exploit Germany's rocketry and Nuclear tech.
They were actually part of the Manhattan project. Before the space race.

I totally relate to Griffon when it comes to preferring exploring over fighting in videogames.
I recently bought 3 different apartments in Playstation Home (one in Rapture, one in Ezio's Venice, and a house in LA). It sounds stupid to spend real money on virtual property and furniture, but I figure, playing with that stuff is just as fun as any other videogame to me, so why not spend about the cost of a videogame on it?

When Griffon and Geoff kiss.] (if they ever do, I mean: when would a wife and husband ever kiss) would Griffon's nose piercing get stuck on Geoff's creepy mustache?

I was under the impression that the US bringing Nazi scientists over to work on rocket technology had been common knowledge for years.

I remember it being referenced as fact in X Files back in the day. Yes the X Files was all about conspiracy theories, I'm just using it as an example for how long ago this knowledge was out there.

    Try even earlier than that.

Please see the comedian Bob Newhart for a humorous take on the subject.
Album/CD title: Behind the Button-Down MInd of Bob Newhart.
    Track: Rocket Scientist
    First released in 1961
Also available on compilation CD of his work called "Something Like This."
