"I feel like I'm listening to a 5th grader's book report" sums it up perfectly--both the hilarity of the situation and Chris' adorable enthusiasm about ROBOT CARS. Absolutely loved it. Brandon's also got a phenomenal piratey laugh that got revealed during the OH YEAH picture

YES! Geoff and Gavin as guests, and Gus/Bernie as hosts.
They could start a new segment much like "gavin or google" where gavin have to come up with 3 "what if's" that he can't discuss with any of the others before the podcast. smiley7.gif

I can't believe that you're lauding Jennifer Lawrence's explanation of why she was sending nude photos. She is basically just demonstrating how terribly insecure she is. Saying, OMG my boyfriend might look at porn! That's incredibly IMMATURE and everyone is calling this commendable?

Do we deify celebrities so much at this point that she can literally say anything and we give her a standing ovation?

    • YMIHere

I think it's more about her being unapologetic about the pictures. If they both agree to draw the line there in their relationship who cares.

Burnie, you said that the nurse had head to toe protective gear on and still got it, but people should realize that the reason that nurses and doctors wear masks and gloves and all that protective stuff is to protect the patients, not to protect themselves.

I always figured DON'T signs on bridges, which is something I've seen around where I live a bit too- sometimes with a suicide hotline number on the bottom, were in reference to suicide- one of those 'give me a signs not to do this thing' ideas to try and discourage people from jumping off. So it felt a bit.. morbid? To hear burning laughing about one.

re: Electric cars that drive themselves in the future...

I think in the not-to-distant future (20 years or so) most people will not own cars. Instead, they will use an Uber-style app to hail a driverless electric car to get them around. The future for transportation isn't high-speed rail, it's driverless cars.

I thought of some work arounds for Chris' idea of the robot car:

    (1) Have the cars filled with gas using a robotic arm that extends from the pump to the side of the car, latches onto the car, the locking mechanism slides open when the pump is connected and the car fills. To get the perfect alignment, the car can use its sensors (the sensors that are used to keep the car within the lines when placed in auto pilot on the road) to line itself up with a mark that tells the car it is in the perfect spot. You can control payment through the car like you would if you connected your credit cards to a virtual wallet.

    (2) Have a service that performs taxi rides to exclusive customers. An individual would sign up their car, they will pay a premium that insures the car for any damage the car takes while being operated as a automatic taxi. Individuals who need the taxi service can sign up for the service and sign a contract that holds them liable for any damage to the car that is a result of their actions. The car pickups the person who requests a ride; the car sensors will verify how many people are in the car; the person riding will use their phone to verify that they have been picked up, how many people are riding, and the distance. After scanning a special tag to verify that the car has picked them up, an estimated amount is deducted from their account on the service for that particular trip (a fee for using the service, a fee to compensate the owner of the car for the insurance they pay with the service, a fee for gas used, and a fee for the owner of the car as profit). That amount is reimbursed if the trip costs less than estimated. The service would be geared towards individuals in cities who do not own a car, do not want to drive in congested streets, or would rather save money on buying a car and insurance by just requesting these vehicles. The contract is used to hold the rider liable if the car is "filled to the top with urine." I'm not sure how this service could be tweaked so that it is more cost effective than taking a regular taxi, but I'm sure someone smarter than me can figure out the financial model. *EDIT* The contract would be helpful for the company providing the taxi service in that the premiums being paid by the owner of the car compensates the owner for any damage to the car (which the insurance is offset by the fee the riders pay and by the profit the owner of the car makes) and allows the company to sue the riders.

    (3) I couldn't think of a good solution for the car parking when there are no parking spots around. My only thought was have designated parking for these types of cars at local libraries or big box stores like Walmart. The drivers of these cars can only park in these specific spots and no other drivers can park there. That way there are a few parking spots at a nearby parking lot that would most likely be open for those types of cars only. This is similar to the idea that some businesses or offices are doing with parking spots only open to electric vehicles for charging. This idea would work for big (usually empty) parking spots at Walmarts but may be difficult for areas without these types of parking lots.

For all the people saying "oh no the CDC has lied about ebola and we are all going to get it and die" look at Omaha, Nebraska(where I live) and We have already successfully treated one ebola patient and have our second one being worked on right now. If proper protocol and equipment is used and the ones who take care of the patient are properly trained(the ones at the facility in Omaha have been training and running drills for deadly viruses like ebola since 2005). Then it can be kept under control.

What Burnie said toward the end about technology growing out of control, to the point of someone making viruses in their garage and other stuff you need labs and stuff for now, is basically the plot of that one show Almost Human.
