One of the things on that list of "things we never realized other people did" that got me was one thread where someone talked about when you have to pee late at night or really early in the morning, and peeing onto the inside of the toilet bowl so that it wouldn't make as much noise. Not only that, but they made a rudimentary picture depicting the action, and indicated teh EXACT spot that I normally pee on to do that.

Yes you can actually get your Adam's Apple shaved to make it less prominent. Common in man to female transsexual individuals.

For the stomach vs mouth thing - there are different chemicals in your mouth than your stomach that break down different components of food for the digestions. So you want to chew your food. For reference, saliva namely breaks down carbohydrates.

@burnie According to an Endocrinologist the "Adam's Apple" is one of the many features that are product of the masculine cocktail of hormones which are oriented towards combat-readiness, the main producer being the testicles, some features are muscle production, fat burning, thick neck, open compass of legs (to run faster), small muscular hips, why? because it's oriented towards assuring reproduction and from an animal aspect we would be fists fighting for a suitable female so the Adam's Apple is there to protect our necks as much as possible from a disabling blow to the neck while we fight a challenging male.

There is a syndrome that shows low levels of this hormones and the visual characteristics is a man with apparently no Adams Apple, uniformly overweight, high pitched voice and small sized testicles and there is a hormone treatment for this with all the seriousness of modern medicine.

I feel like a caveman every time I hear the podcast crew talking about their new technologies and vehicles and such when I'm over here driving a car from 92 and playing a PS3.

    • JasonSovan

Dude you if you have that then you are awesome. Mainatancing a car from 92 to is hard to keep up and PS3 is good because you can play all games from ps and ps2. (I don't know if the ps4 does that. I never really looked into one before.)

Gavin is actually not to far off the mark about leaving the incapacitated pilot in his seat. In my airline (not necessarily industry standard) If either pilot becomes incapacitated, the remaining pilot will ask for the flight attendants to enter the cockpit move their seat all the way back (as far from the controls as possible) fasten their 5 point harness and cross their arms behind the straps. The only time it even MIGHT be considered to remove the incapacitated pilot from the flight-deck is if there is an off duty pilot employee in the cabin. Also when one pilot leaves for a restroom break and the flight attendant comes in they do not sit in the vacated chair under any circumstances, because really they have no idea what everything does and accidents have occurred by people accidentally touching the wrong thing.

American Express is NOT a credit card company. They have issued a credit card in the past. What they operate largely as is a charge card company. The deal is they offer to extend you a form of credit on a monthly basis that must be paid off in full every month. It's a form of traveler's cheques in a way and allowed for large expenses to be handled without cash. In the more modern form they allow some rollover on occasion depending on the business and such but it is definitely not a credit card. American Express is a complex business to begin with but they did start as a parcel service that extended into crediting (i.e. holdings in NY could be spent elsewhere as the value of AMEX became increasingly trusted).

Gus keyboard discussion- i really want to see a hexagonal keyboard, that would look hilarious while potentially being a huge step in efficiency.

reason to eat rations slowly- i'm guessing it has to do with absorbing the first round of nutrients in your mouth. rations are made for supreme efficiency, so it is probably designed to let you absorb as much as possible in each stage of digestion.

It was a kids father. He put cyanide in to his son, daughter, and two of their friends pixie sticks but only the son ate the stick and died. The man claimed to be innocent even when multiple store owners claimed that he had come in trying to get them to order cyanide and others told police that he had brought it up in conversations. He was on death row and was nicknamed "the candyman" he proclaimed his innocence still but the older he got the less innocent he seemed.

The thing Gavin mentioned about shutting your eyes to more clearly remember what you're seeing is something I do on a regular basis, I'd always wondered if anyone else did it. And, when I was little, I also used to do the thing where you imagine a person running and jumping around as you ride in a car, though I always imagined someone on a dirt bike. :D

P.S. Anyone else get lots of choppy audio in the last third of this?

I actually use a Dvorak keyboard. I love it, but I always tell people five things: 1) I could get away with switching because I was such a *terrible* typist in the first place that moving away from QWERTY was not a big deal, 2) I wouldn't say it's faster but it is more comfortable to me, 3) it becomes really inconvenient if you need to use someone else's computer, 4) surprisingly, it doesn't mess with your head to have Dvorak on your computer and QWERTY on your phone, and most importantly 5) if you're already a good typist, don't bother moving away from QWERTY.
