I'd be ok with Ilia dying. We've only had 1 big character death so far, and Ilia has good intentions but is just a straight up bad person. A large amount of villains in all of fiction have good intentions, doesn't mean they aren't terrible people.

Nope. You clearly see that she struggles to be that person. She is on the edge of becoming like Adam but still has some guilt left in her. She is a pretty good candidate for a redemtion arc. That doesn't mean you should forget all the bad things she has done but compared to other villans on the show there seems to be hope for her. Especially if she learns about what Adam did to Blake because Ilia still seems to have some form of feelings for Blake

You're right she would be a good fit for a redemption arc. I just have not gotten attached to her at all, like if she does get killed off, my heart won't twinge at all.  Now Raven who has been in the show less(by screen time standards) I would feel worse for, and she in reality, may be even worse of a person than Ilia. Raven is just so damn cool and badass, Ilia just doesn't do it for me. I don't know I'm sure I'm in the minority here but Ilia just doesn't seem that interesting, I'm way more interested in that dragon faunus or whatever it was.

That is of course entirely subjective. On the other end are people like Arryn (PunsOfDamage) who sees Ilia as one of her favourite characters. I like Ilia as a character but there are other characters I like more.

I mean, no, a lot of us don't like Ilia. As a character, yes, she's interesting and has some backstory. But she's currently a horrible person and letting her jealousy control her, and has for a long time. It's honestly baffling that she can justify her actions or at least pretends to by blaming Blake for not looking at her the way she did at Adam, but then takes orders that come from Adam to punish Blake. It's just insane. Ilia, just because you're at least gay, I'm not giving you the benefit of the doubt just yet. You need to really change your colours, as Chad said.

I also am glad that they weren't afraid to portray the first LGBT character as someone on the wrong side of the moral compass. Not everyone is happy and it's not all love and rainbows, as ironic as it sounds. I just hope that we have more people opening up in the same sense, over the course of the series, as it'd be kind of lame that we only got one character.

Guess we will finally see Raven really fighting next chapter! That'll be fucking awesome.

Truth be told, I wouldn't of minded the reveal of Ilia being gay if it weren't for the fact that it was revealed while she was in the middle of assassinating her crush Blake's entire family

Also, I got a joke for you in my next Reply. :)

Judge: Ilia Amitola, the people find you guilty of mass murder, conspiracy, assassination, stalking, terrorism, and treason against the Kingdoms. How do you plead?

      Ilia: I'm gay.

      ----------------------------

Somewhere, in a different multiverse, Kevin Spacey sneezed, as if someone was using his schtick. But seemed to be getting away with it because she was female and gay and thus above judgement and hypocrisy.

I don't get where this hate for Ilia comes from. I mean yeah, she is not a good person but people seem to forget that she is not evil. She is an extremist who is manipulated by others to become a person she is not. Don't you see  her hesitation. And she also tried to warn Blake. As I said, those things don't suddenly make her  a good person but acting like she is terrible if people like Cinder are walking around is stupid.

And her being gay doesn't negate everything she has done. But her feelings for Blake could play part in a possible redemtion

@Jaune_Black_Smudge I don't really mind it. It shows how crazy she is and it makes sense as to why she's dumb enough to stick with the White Fang, it's simply because if she defected it would make her like Blake and she's convinced she hates Blake.

But that's funny. People keep saying "she's not just a gay crazy bitch" and I'm like, yeah she kind of is. There's nothing wrong with the fact that there are terrible people in the show. I'm like, just because she's gay, doesn't mean that she has any justification for treating people badly. Two wrongs do not make a right.

@teethbreaker13445 hate for her isn't 'hate' per se, just pointing out that she's a bad person. I definitely hate Adam, but I don't hate the character. He is a wonderful villain - in the sense I just want the good guys to beat him. Just like Ilia, she's got many reasons as to why she acts this way but like you said, it doesn't make her a good person. And just because there are worse people out there doesn't make her any less of a bad person.

      @gem_scheltema

Thanks. I adapted the joke from a Kevin Spacey meme I recently read.

Glad that we're like-minded. I can understand why some people may sympathize with Ilia and her VA has been killing it with her performance. And while it was nice for her to be the first openly gay character, I agree that it doesn't make her any less of a terrible person and doesn't justify any bad things she does. Like, if the people who opposed the White Fang were anyone but the Belladonnas, I don't think Ilia would've hesitated at all at eliminating them.

If it's not too much to ask, but I'd like to hear your opinion about something.

But here's an interesting thought. I believe that the SDC does not really discriminate against Faunus miners. I don't really want to go on about how poorly handled the theme of racism in the show so I'll keep my reasoning specific. And yes, I know this seems contradictory to Ilia's backstory but I've found a few critical flaws/inconsistencies in it.

So, Jacques claims in the SDC Gala that he pays both him human and Faunus employees, specifically the miners, equally. Now, it would be easy to write off what he says as pure BS but...Word of God actually kind of backs up what he says amazingly enough. In the WoR on "SDC", when Qrow the narrator is deriding the SDC, he mentions their "cheap labor force". He doesn't mention Faunus AT ALL. He just says cheap labor force. When the freaking Word of God Exposition Machine of the show doesn't even confirm about Faunus discrimination in the SDC mines, what will? So, Jacques must've been telling the truth when he said he paid both his human and Faunus employees and miners equal (shitty) pay. In that case, that's an economic issue, not a race issue which just makes the WF even more baseless.

And now you may may be wondering how this relates to Ilia's backstory, right? Well, I doubt that Ilia's parents were actually miners; managers or something sounds more likely. Because tell me this: how does two barely minimum wage earning miners put their daughter through an Atlas/Mantle prep school? Seriously, how? If they were really being paid that badly, they should've been struggling to pay the rent, not a freaking prep school. And this directly contradicts with Ilia's claims that the Faunus were being treated like slaves in the SDC mines.

Granted, it's not like they weren't verbally insulted and discriminated but they were at the very least not economically discrimnated against. I mean, I can understand Jacques firing/restricting Faunus employees from high ranking jobs because of the constant WF attacks but you know.

      What do you think?

@Jaune_Black_Smudge I think that it's entirely possible that Jacques simply pays all his mining staff equally. Though, as you've already realised, money isn't everything when it comes to a job. I would assume by Ilia's story of her parents' deaths; and I trust Ilia's word slightly more than Jacques 'c*nt' not really a Schnee, that the conditions in the mines for Faunus are worse (and with that they should be paid more!). They might be paid the same, but work in a more dangerous area or with more dangerous Dust? I think though, if that was not the case, that the discrimination against Faunus from the SDC is due to the White Fang attacking them (which only started happening after Sienna Khan became high leader). But, it makes little sense to attack a company that provides stable and safe jobs, so their hate would have to originate from somewhere right? - likely Jacques treating the Faunus worse than humans by verbally abusing them, maybe hurting them, and definitely keeping them as a labor force rather than promoting them. It's kind of a hate circle in that case. It doesn't really seem that there would be any other explanation other than Jacques really does discriminate against them.

      @gem_scheltema

He may not have been born a Schnee but he sure has done more for the SDC than any natural born Schnee except maybe Nicholas have done. He's the man who made the SDC a household name and elevated it into the top of the Dust business globally. So trying to demean him just because he wasn't "born" a Schnee is a bit hypocriticl because it can be flipped and you can ask, what have the so called "natural" Schnees done? Mrs. Schnee is a useless drunk, Winter is a Specialist in the Atlesian Army (which woohoo still has nothing to do with the family business) and Weiss has followed Winter in the steps of becoming a Huntress. How does any of that really compare to the masive success and fortune Jacques has brought to the Schnee name?

Considering the worst Jacques has ever done is being a bad father and losing his temper and slapping his (Aura protected) daughter, I would take his word a tad bit more than Ilia who's been responsible for terrorism and murder, and follows Adam's ideology, which has included using Grimm on civilians. So if ti comes down to integrity, I would trust the word of a jerkish arrogant businessman than a misanthropic extremist terrorist.

And the point that the miners should be paid more is kind of rendered moot when you remember that Ilia's parents were able to put her through an Atlas/Mantle prep school. You can't really say that they're not being paid enough if they can afford *that*. Plus, we can't know for sure if the condition were that bad, especially for Faunus, because just like most of the racism in the show, we haven't seen it. I doubt Blake and Ilia have ever really seen a mine and if they did, I doubt they would know how a mining operation works.

The White Fang have always been irrational. What type of person uses GRIMM on people just to "get revenge on humanity"? Without any real signs of shown institutional racism in the show, all the White Fang so far have shown that they're just jackass pricks.

Besides, I doubt that Jacques would go out of his way to go to all his mines just to spout abuse at his Faunus miners before going back home. It's not like he directly oversees every mine in the company. There are layers upon layers of structural delegation, especially for a massive company like the SDC so the whole discrimination thing could just be a few racist managers.

Motion Capture is so much fun not only to set up and perform in the suit, but to see the differences between mo cap and traditional animation. All of the pops you see in the captured rigs (the colorful stick figure type characters) have to be thoroughly cleaned through to ensure that no one's foot or hand goes spiraling off into the abyss.

That actually makes me wonder if Raven's helmet has a practical purpose other then protecting her head. I always assumed it was camouflage to keep Grimm from sensing her.

Didn't V4E12 suggest that the eyes of the Grimm are essentially non-functional and that they can only detect the presence of an individual via emotional state? Because the Nuck was right in front of Jaune and Qrow, but Ren's semblance seemed to mask them somehow. Thus, it seems camouflage from the Grimm could only be done through relaxation or Ren's semblance.

Kinda wish they would have talked more about Ilia's big reveal and less time screaming about Sun. Like the whole Ilia thing was huge and Yang's feelings for Blake were too, but instead it was just a lot of Sun. Idk, the Ilia thing is something people have been wanting for a long time and it felt kinda glossed over.

Meh, I prefer it that way. The first openly LGBT character they introduce is the misanthropic terrorist with a flawed backstory, is not afraid to kill innocents, and was right in the middle of assassinating Blake's family. Talk about a mix of wrong time, wrong place and delicious irony.

It's literally clear to me now that it's because Yssa loves Sun. And I think she ships Blake x Sun. And the people that agree with her don't like it when we say we don't really like hearing about how great Sun is all the time when he's clearly just a supporting character, and an average one at that. It's fine that people have their own opinions (liking and not liking a character is reasonable) but at this point, I know it won't change, because no matter how much we ignore the downvotes from people, Yssa still likes Sun. They usually gloss over a lot of things most of the time I'd rather them talk about, it's mostly about questions. We might hear more about Yang's feelings when they actually go further into it once Blake returns, because that will be a turning point either way - friendship rekindling, or more.

+Jaune_Black_Smudge Seems like someone is bitter and doesn't seem to get Ilia as a character. She wasn't in the middle of killing Blake's parents, she was in the middle of sending Blake away. And why shouldn't Ilia be allowed to have feelings for Blake? You seem to only notice the surface of her character. You should watch the reactions of PunsOfDamage (Arryn) for RWBY. She recognizes the tragic part of her character and notices signs for someone who isn't completly sold on what she is doing

I would like to just point out that I think Yssa is lovely and I have no problem with what she likes, if it was unclear in my comment. She's great, enthusiastic and is very much entitled to her opinion, even if I don't agree with it. It just takes my enjoyment of the recap down a notch, and that's why I wanted to say that her like for Sun is not going to go away just because I'd like it to take the backseat. It's fine. I still watch this show every week and love to discuss things here.

@teethbreaker13445 nobody is bitter but you when people simply don't like a character that is blatantly going along with murder and manipulation of their kind because of...what reason? Like I said to you before, she's had bad shit happen to her, but so has a lot of people, and they aren't doing what Ilia is. She wasn't killing Blake's parents, but she did not protest and thinks of them as a necessary sacrifice to help Faunus, which is insane and clearly moronic. She is brainwashed and won't listen to reason simply because she is also bitter about what Blake didn't feel for her and how Blake defected. She might not be 'completely sold' on what she's doing, but that makes it all the more worse that she followed Adam's hostile takeover and murderous plans.
