Why did not one notice that RWBY was never meant for kids after watching these?  They are so dark and edgy that I cut myself pressing play.

my theory with the grimm (and it includes a theory for a bunch of stuff) is this: there was a massive asteroid, and it basically hit the earth, but before it did, it hit the moon (shown in the second World of remnant video, theres basically a large chunk taken out of the moon) and so, that asteroid hit earth, but because of its impact with the moon, it didnt completely destroy the earth but wiped out nearly everyone, and all records. the survivors where the few people that possessed abilities that allowed them to not die: aura. when the asteroid collided with the moon, it made a lot of material come to earth. that material , combined with the material of the asteroid, or possibly just the asteroid itself is dust. man used the dust to return from the clutches of extinction, however just as their use of dust could have been used to make many positive things, there was a negative byproduct: the grimm. as man would manifest their hopes and desires with the dust, their fears and negativity also manifested itself into the grimm. it is a part of man, thats how its able to learn. the primary fear of man is death, so the grimm, wanting to become stronger knew that by making man realize that fear, they would grow. thats why they kill; to grow stronger. it takes quite a while for them to become extremely strong, but most of the time they die before then. people would imagine grimm in more frightening ways, thats why different forms keep popping up. once people see the more frightening form, they fear it too, and it creates more. when they die, they evaporate, as no one fears it once they think its dead. thats why it doesnt evaporate instantly. it takes a second for them to know its dead, before they stop fearing it. its also why they dont survive in captivity: scientists dont fear it while its in captivity. when people are nervous around it, it feeds off of that, and is able to escape. The grimm is just a byproduct of dust: used for hopes and desires. the byproduct is fear, and grows from fear. the byproduct is the creatures of grimm.

sorry for the very long comment, also feel free to rsepond with holes in the theory

I'm probably convinced that the reason grimm are so dangerous is because of their numbers.

It's probably just the reason a zombie apocalypse is so dangerous. In most normal zombie movies or shows, they're slow, stupid, and easy to fight. So the typical battles are easy. The real problem with survival in a zombie apocalypse is the amount of opposition that exists out there.

Clearing a room of zombies isn't a problem. Clearing a neighborhood is an endeavor. Clearing the world is a daunting impossible task.

If the Grimm are just ever present outside of civilization, then they're a threat because of their sheer numbers. The possibility that anytime you were to leave the safety of a kingdom... a Grimm is around the corner... would certainly make them a dangerous threat.

Plus, they typically like to gather where ever there's negative emotion. And negative emotion has a nasty way of clouding people's judgment, which makes fighting a giant horde of Grimm even harder.

You Attack on Titan people annoy me so much just bc Toonami put the show up as one of it's main anime's. You simple adapted to the style of geek I was born in it! Molded by it. All thanks to Gundam, Yo Yo Hakusho, Dragonball Z, and plenty other awesome anime's. I recommend watching Deadman's Wonderland, or Deathnote for you anime noobs out there.

  • DylanToast

He's gotta point. Creatures/Monsters in anime basically all share the same trait. The hollows in Bleach are just souls who have been in the living would to long and have lost all hope and consumed by darkness and then go around eating other souls or souls of the living. The dark monsters in most shows are just symbolisms for Demons. Demons wreak havoc on everything even though if it is not needed. Suck it up it's a good show using only specks of tales that are passed down from story to story. Btw you aren't an anime fan if the only shows you know happen to be Attack On Titan, Naruto (which went downhill), and Full Metal Alchemist. All great shows, but don't place yourself in a position to judge other shows when you only know of a few.

  • Unidog

Guys, I can think of a shit tone of creatures that are similar to the behaviour as the Grimm, it's a very common monster trait. So many creatures from games, manga, anime, shows and cartoons do the same thing; hunt and kill/eat when they don't need to, learn from past battles and mature as they grow, are attracted to negative energy, disappear when they die... it's everywhere.

You guys only think their like Titans and choose that as the first choice because that stupid anime/manga is popular and everywhere, so it's on your brains. Grimm are like the Titans, and the Titans are like everything else. Geez, move on already.

@DABLASTER There's also the thing with not harming animals. Although here its also specified it will only attack animals when provoked. Still not enough similarities with Attack on Titan if you ask me but some ppl are looking for an opportunity to throw around the claim what was inspired by what

@socklee416 So the only similarity u have between this and attack on titan is that the grim feed on humans when they dont even need to, like the titans in attack on titan? That does not mean it is the same thing as attack on titan.

  • Aryc

    @Kirsie
I was comparing them and stating that inspiration for some of the Grimm's traits may have come from the titans from AoT, which would be a single minor aspect of the story. It also doesn't matter whether or not it did, because it's inspiration not plagiarism.

  • corylevasseu

Anyone who plays World of Warcraft here getting a "Sha" vibe from the Grim?

  • Kirsie

You're seriously comparing RWBY with Attack on Titan and other Anime... because they have little similarities... just like a fish and a bird? I have no words.
Not because any of them are bad - The opposite is true.
In my point of view... it's just ignorace... Go read/watch/listen to plenty other storys berfore you dare to compare like "It's the same thing as ..." !
This pisses me off and I feel sorry for the storywriters at the same time. D:

  • Aryc

Okay, I'm going to say the intelligent thing here, who cares if AoT and RWBY have similar creatures in their world? There is nothing wrong with taking inspiration from certain aspects of another story, and I personally don't believe credit is due anywhere, there's nothing new under the sun. I'm currently writing a book and I'm not ashamed to admit I have received an enormous amount of inspiration in some of the finer details from SAO and this series. No, I'm not going to write about a virtual world or a world filled with a rebellious people that exhibit animal traits, but I will write about a misunderstood people that took things too far, and the amazing things a human can do if they can react to their environment faster than others. Just as Remnant is assaulted by creatures that have similar personality traits to titans, but not by creatures that look like humans, but are naked, stupid, and have no genitals. The main point being, scientists model their after the experiments of other scientists, athletes look over the tapes of professional players to see what they are doing well, and what they could do better, so writers will take inspiration from other writers. Get over it.

(Possible spoiler) Calling it now -- Grimm were created by humans and unleashed on humans by humans. The key giveaway: their attraction to negative emotions. They're an attempt to apply selection pressure -- to breed the roots of violence out of humanity. Wonder where the faunus fit into it, though...

I find this series awesome..people may compare RWBY to AoT but personally it never occured to me to compare the two until now that I've read the comments..AoT's got this dark fantasy vibe but RWBY's a fantasy without being dark (for me)..I've watched AoT before and at first it captured me but later on as it progressed, I found it the plot twist oddly discomforting (though I can see that that was necessary to give the story more flavor and for character development)..On the other hand, RWBY may seem kind of a simpler version of AoT with it's plot but..sometimes, series like this one (less irksome twists and painstakingly time - consuming character development) gets you thru the day; like a breath of fresh air..
BESIDES, it's really not wise to compare (can't say I'm wise now) AoT and RWBY..I don't know if I'm right but, these are of different genres (for me), created by people of different backgrounds, produced with different means, and target different audiences..

P.S. I enjoyed the 1st and the ongoing 2nd season of RWBY; I didn't like the first half of the 1st season of AoT but I guess I didn't hate episodes after that..

    @Alforbia

They don't have to eat, they only hunt humans, they evaporate when they die. Even the world organization is simmilar to attack on titan, where humans live in isolated places to defend themselves against grims.

I'm not an AoT fanboy, I lost complete interest in the series when I found out humans can transform into titans, but I have to say the grims have pretty similar characteristics to titans.

One more comment: I'm not sure why BlackFurnace is getting down votes. I found his/her comments quite well-articulated and accurate! The Grimm haven't shown themselves to be a significant threat, despite what we've been told. We need to see armies of well-trained humans get their butts handed to them by grimm in order for us to perceive them as a threat.

That said, I do hope (and expect) the show to surprise us. Perhaps the forest the students were thrown into at the start was actually just a training ground for students, only filled with weak grimm and periodically cleared out?

A throwaway line between top professors at Beacon debating sending the students on a dangerous mission would answer this. For example:
Professor 1: "The students are ready for this. They handled the forest just fine."
Professor 2: Ex: "That forest was just a training ground! We always clear it out of more dangerous grimm before letting them in This is different!" (While I doubt anyone from RT will even read this, if they do, feel free to use that however you see fit. smiley13.gif )

I'm just giving RT the benefit of the doubt, of course. We'll see what actually happens.
