never like how CFVY was used as collateral... Still salty about it because yeah yeah Coco is my fave and all. But still. Could have used a different team that isn't as loveable in a sense? But I guess that help build character development? or progress in story even more. the emotions and such.

  • Kerisato

"Upset" is putting that lightly. Before that fight I thought Mercury and Emerald were just like Weiss, Blake, Pyrrah, Yang and the rest. Boy was I wrong. Team CVFY's Coco and Yatsuhashi getting beat so bad was not my first prediction when I saw who they were fighting.

RWBY has very good music for these fights.

Up till now, I'd thought Mercury and Emerald were just pawns who'd take a fall so that they could slip away from the attention for a later stage in the plan, but obviously they're leagues better (and more important) than it seemed. Makes you wonder, If they fear Cinder so much how strong is she?

I think I may have figured it out or I could be completely out to lunch.

I believe that Weiss doubts her own abilities to summon because of a past summon gone wrong. What I think is this: the White trailer was actually Weiss practicing summoning the mirror knight, but it turned on her thus forcing her to defeat it (which is why she seems disappointed/sad in the trailer). This causes her self-confidence to lower and makes her doubt in her own abilities to summon it again - for fear that the same thing will happen and it will turn on her.

    SPOILER INCOMING!!!

If you haven't watched this episode yet, do that first and then come back and read this.

This is respective to the Sword Weiss summons. It has obviously to do with the Knight she fought in the Weiss trailer.

So my theory is different to what I read a lot of times. The fight is not a dream or fantasy Weiss has made up in her mind how she got the scar on her eye.

But rather it actually was a sparing match somewhere in the Schnee Mansion, but instead of her sparing partner, its the one of her older sister, Winter, which is a stronger huntress at that point than Weiss' has been. Thats the reason her aura depleted, since the sparing partner is tuned to the strength of the opponent, which would otherwise be Winter. Since we know that only after the aura of a fighter is depleted they are able to be hurt physically, it would make much sense that this Knight, tuned to Winters strength, was way too strong for Weiss in her current state of training. After Weiss took the hit, she seems to straighten up, pulling all her strength together and beating the Knight in a final effort.

That would only make sense if Weiss actually got a good reason to fight this knight, but wonder, there is.

The reason is simple, she wanted recognition. She stated to her team that her childhood was very hard, due to the attacks the White Fang commited on the Schnee Dust company and her dad coming home every day furious, making her childhood really hard, maybe even nightmarish.

So, to get the attention she so strongly wanted from her dad, maybe even her sister, she decided to do something pretty stupid and fight the sparring partner of Winter, who would be easily capable of seriously injuring her.

I've posted this under the Weiss Trailer aswell, don't be mad please!

    Thanks for reading!

At the end of the episode you see the little sword Weiss summons i happened to go back to the white trailer and the sword she summoned matches the sword that the huge knight thing was using. Does that mean Weiss's issue with summoning is related to that or is it something else?

    • Ralthar FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

My guess is that it is more of a state of mind. Her sister told her to think back to the enemies she's fought that pushed her the hardest. Seeing as the events of the Red, White, Black and Yellow trailers appear to be canon within the show, the knight was probably the one she was visualizing. But she sees her summons as something she is incapable of and rather than approaching it as a challenge to be overcome, she sees it as something that has already defeated her. So when she tries to summon her mindset is not "I will do this!" it is more like "I can't do this." Again going to what her sister said, her ability to manifest her summons is probably still very weak, as she doesn't seem to focus her training on them, and needs to be practiced more intensively.

I feel like CFVY, in a Grimm-elimination competition, would perform exceptionally. They are all very tall (Yatsu is 7', Velvet, the shortest, is 5'8") and Yatsu is basically a truck. Velvet excels in martial arts without her weapon, and Monty has said that she is a powerful mage. Yatsu's sword is an excellent weapon, despite having no ranged form; it puts a good distance between the Grimm and Yatsu. Fox's weapons, while lacking in reach, are exceptionally powerful as blades and could possibly be used the same way as Ember Celica. Coco's weapon is excellent for mowing down hordes of Grimm and is shown to be unusually effective against Nevermores, a quality most of the Big Eight's (RWBY and JNPR) weapons lack. However, CFVY is best for fighting brainless, heavy foes. Their weapons (and Yatsu, LOL) are too big and heavy to fight against agile humans. Something I've noticed is that weapons that are excellent against humans (such as Arslan's rope dart or Sage's staff) are not ideal for Grimm, and vice versa.

We touch the ground. You can close your eyes and feel the flat (or not) surface in front of you. Ray Charles used a form of eccho location with wooden shoes and knew where open doors were and all sorts of things base on the sound feedback from his clomping around (he didn't use a seeing eye dog).

I have to call BS on this entire fight. Coco took out multiple Beowolves in a row with just a series of handbag swings and her Gatling gun obliterated a Death Stalker and a Nevermore in just a few shots and in this fight couldn't shoot through a tree? It took Emerald nearly a dozen sickle swings (after also shooting it) to kill the same exact type of Grimm that Fox killed in a few punches, with one lethal punch that was ON the armored part of its head. Am I suddenly supposed to believe it isn't Deus Ex Machina that suddenly Emerald can take out someone like Coco in one hit and Coco who was previously cutting through two of the toughest Grimm types we have seen like they were the air itself and suddenly can't splinter a tree? This fight is the only terrible thing on an otherwise great show. It makes no sense and reeks of Deus Ex Machina just to make Emerald and Mercury look good.

    • Primo_Teonori

Thought exactly the same. When she was alone in the forest, after seeing she wasn't able (anymore) neither to shoot trough the tree neither to go in meelee as quickly she previously did, I was just like "wow, did she get nerfed?". I call The Worf Effect here!

    • kell7777

This fight is what happens when you have an opponent who studies all of your moves and is able to plan ahead to beat them. Heck they were even able to set the stage. I would like to see how a rematch between them would go on more even terms.

Have you seen Mythbusters episode of machine gun chainsaw? Takes alot to cut through a tree with bullets, I think it caught fire first. Also, these trees are simulations so... Coco wasn't uninjured when Emerald pounced and we didn't have to see every swing of Emerald's hand sythes to know who would win in CQB between the two. Oh, let's not forget that they were also cheating.

That is actually a tribute to Monty Oum, the creator of the series, if I'm not mistaken. Before his death, he was known to say "Keep moving forward" when referencing all the various things that RT worked on. That line is actually what struck me as the most powerful moment in this season so far.

I know, right... There is an empty seat by Cinder and there is a few frames of (very possibly blurry Neo) but definitly not Emerald, running around on the field. Emerald is there, but that was not her running by the camera. The figure has the same color pattern as Neo in her usual outfit. The "Queen Virus" has given Cinders group the Arena as their stage. Now Neo is using her known seblance to do Magic shows.

Hey, did you ever wonder who was sitting next to Cinder then must have got up to leave before the fight started. Funny how there's an empty seat next to her. Good thing that nobody on Cinders team is unaccounted for... Well she could be off doing anything... okay then, Why is Cinder sitting next to an empty set? Not like she would save a seat for someone that's off somewhere else. So, we know Neo was or is close by, otherwise why the empty chair?

Sometimes it's what you don't see that matters most.

@Cordless549 That is a future fight where it could be Emerald or Neo. But, they still leave us that hint of an empty seat. There is a strong possibility that Neo could be hiding on the Arena area. If I were to guess at Emerald's ability, it would be some form of visual only invisibility (Not firm on this) but she seems to pop up like she had to approch very quietly to get close enough to attack Coco. I Think that Mercury's semblance has something to do with keeping all those projectiles in the air until he wants to launch them at his enemies.

And that, children, is why when going into PvP doubles, you DON'T take two heavies. In fact, unless you have a highly skilled controller as your second choice, even one heavy is a bad idea. • AsylumManiac

That, or Neo snuck into the ring and used her illusions to possibly make Coco paranoid during the match.

Maybe, but from the little we've seen of Neo's powers, she's never projected an illusion of another person, mostly just herself and immediate surroundings. I'm not saying there's no chance you're right, I wouldn't put it past Cinder and Co. to screw a match in their favor (they pretty much already do with the "random selection", but Mercury and Emerald seem to be more than competent enough to win a match on their own without somehow cheating another contestant into a Doubles match, especially if they do as much research on their "randomly selected" opponents as previous episodes throughout the series seem to suggest.
