I was wondering, does the red on mistrals map have any importance, like in the south east area the map is almost a blood like colour. What would that mean, is it a reference to salems location?

I kinda expected to get something about Haven Academy since it is in Mistral.

Just some association I've been spitballing (and compiling from other comments):

Windpath: Sounds Viking - Nora's heritage

Kuchinashi:  Sounds Japanese - Ren's heritage (even though Ren is more Chinese)

Mistral: Cultural center for the world, respects nature - Pyrrha and Neptune's heritage (mentioned below)

I didn't see anything particularly French that would hint to Jaune, though I find Mistral more likely that the other Kingdoms to have that origin as well. Maybe I'm just projecting.

I suspect this kingdom could be used in a similar way as the Earth Kingdom in A:TLA, which was also the second act of the show, and was used to expand the world building of the show exponentially.

What about the middle class though? Qrow explained the upper and lower class they probably live off the land in house or something

    • VeryPlite Medli the Earth Sage

There's probably a large class gap where middleclassmen  either fall into poor upper society or rich slums people, kinda like a feudal system where the class gap tends to be huge

I feel like the outro for Animation needs some change, at least for some episodes.

It went from relaxing, calm and artsy to quick music and Michael throwing a bread stick at Miles.

It's curious that Mistral has an Asian vibe going for it. Pyrrha and Neptune are both from Mistral and they are more Greco-Roman. Maybe it has to do with the individual cities have their own cultures. Maybe Pyrrha isn't from the city shown in the trailer.

If we're going historical, Greece/Rome was also a massive center of cultural development (arts, fashion, etc.) and held nature in high regard. Maybe it's a nice blend!

You can hide anywhere in the world of remnant. It just depends on who or what you're hiding from.

  • Firerad_Fieritis

I like the Asian theme Mistral has going for it. Makes sense too, since it's located in the eastern area of the world... Which makes me wonder... What if each continents' environment/culture is based on where it is relative to our world. Vale seemed to have a sort of European vibe to it with it's buildings. Sun's clothing looks like something an American living in L.A. would wear, so could Vacuo be Remnant's equivalent of America? Maybe Atlas is based off Russia or something located in the very northern area of Earth? And, if y'all remember back in the first chapter of Vol. 3, some Faunus where watching the Vytal Tournment. The environment there looked like something from the Outback in Australia... Could Menagerie, if that's where they were, be their equivalent of Australia? Of course, this is only a theory and the other World of Remnants will probably confirm or disprove this notion soon enough. But if anyone would like to share their thoughts, by all means. ^^

    • Benjamming

That makes sense. And if that really is the case, that would be super cool, and have a lot more potential for the kind of stories that can be told. ;)

    • Firerad_Fieritis

Indeed. Of course, we'll need to wait until the other WoRs are out to confirm this. I would love if this were the case. And if the stories around the different kingdoms are somewhat similar to the legends/mythology of their respective culture, as well as maybe having similar histories.

I'm amazed that Mistral apparently has a "shady underbelly"! I always thought Vacuo would be the one that fits the bill; given Sun's description of it as an informal, "rougher" place to live.

  • Dinobot01

From what I took from all that, RT based Mistral from traditional Japanese culture. With the kimono and fox mask, that seems to be the case. The underclass seem to be full of mercenaries and bounty hunters. Why do I have the feeling the if RWBY and JNR ever go there, they will stick out like a soar thumb and get into so much trouble?

    • UltraZero FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold OmniGeek

Considering team RWBY is sort of on haitus what with Weiss gone home, Yang dealing with her loss, and Blake AWOL, who knows. But since Ruby is hanging with JNR (a makeshift team I like to call RNJR) they would stick out.

    • METAMAN666 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Would it realy matter. I mean if they were to go to Mistral then we would want them to stick out so thugs will pick fights with RNJR only to have their asses beet within an inch of their life. And it would be a glorious ass beating.

    • shortstos1 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

i dont think they actually train grimm, i think is was just a card to be used in the game as like a conflict card to disrupt the opponent.

    • MoGeSgS FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Taming a grimm is impossible as their only purpose is kill humans also in volume 3 cinder was the only one that had a level of control over them, not like a boss but at least we know the dragon grimm seemed to understand her, and she has a part of grimm nature in her, which is the tattoo in her back made by the glove, then also Salem may have real control over grimm

    • Toostie

I think all the kingdoms used Grim as weapons during the great war (or whatever war the game is ment to represent, granted if there is one). I don't rember the card being given any bonuses for being a Mistalian (is there an offical way to say that?) card.

    • pwner5012

I'm fairly certain that there was no actual training regimen for the Grimm. It sounds like the only way to control them is to plop them somewhere and make the target really really sad.

Just watch the card game episode again. Yang is playing as Mistral. Ruby mentions her air fleet "flies right over her Ursai." And then Yang uses her "Giant Nevermore." As she explained to Weiss, using cards that are related to her kingdom comes with a bonus.

After that, in the episode "Beginning of the End," when Cinder is training Emerald, she brings her up close and personal with Grimm creatures, to which Emerald exclaims "This is impossible!"

I'm wondering if Blake hasn't returned to Mistral to hunt for Adam. I can't remember where she said she was from....the line was something like, "In ________, if you can't fight you can't survive." But I can't remember the episode or the place!!! I'm pretty sure she was talking to Ozpin...Urgh, so frustrating! If anyone remembers, please tell me! Anyway, Mistral seems like the type of place that would make sense for her to hunt him down in, and RNJR is suppose to be passing through there right? And if Yang goes looking for Raven there...the only person missing is Weiss.

In Volume 2 ep 2 Blake is talking to Ozpin and says "I was raised outside the kingdoms, if you can't fight, you can't survive." It doesn't specify which kingdom(s) she lived outside, but this might be what you were thinking of.
