It's been several months since the Fall of Beacon, and the world of Remnant is still recovering. Tensions are high, lives have been lost, and the members of Team RWBY... are divided. Each of our heroines now faces a journey of their own. While some must search inward if they ever hope to move on, others will venture out into the world in search of answers. Totally believe the Farm Boy was having a nightmare involved with the events right before (the meeting with Cinder and who I think is the Mother of Grimm), he might be related to Cinder somehow. It's not certain that he was in that village, he might be in Mistral where Cinder has said she hailed from (she said Haven, specifically). Anyone have other theories?? Can't wait to see more!!

      POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT

The "Mother of Grimm" name is Salem... just fyi lol. Idk if thats ment to be known yet or not but it was in the subtitles on youtube.

nothing to say other than perfect. This was a great new episode and i loved every second of it. Jaunes new armor looks fantastic also, i just love everything. Roosterteeth has done yet another fantastic job.

Picking this thing apart bit by bit was something of a ride for me. I haven't commented on this site before because I know this is where the "No criticism allowed" people hang out, but first time for everything. I got a few gripes: 1. You just introduced a character and didn't do anything with him(Farm boy), when you introduce a character they need to have relevance to whats happening, otherwise it doesn't connect with the viewer. Give us a name, have him talk or something don't just show us isolated clips of the guy doing farmwork, that's a waste of time. 2. I remember liking the new animation style and thought it looked very smooth and really accentuated the lighting in scenes, but that isn't being utilized. The forest area looks drab and uninteresting and if you showed me the forest from V1 and this one I'd say they look the same. 3. Ren isn't saying anything relevant at all, his character so far has been pitched as quite and down to earth, contrasting with the empty phrases he is spouting this episode. 4. Up until V3 RWBY was at least somewhat obeying the laws of propulsion. Now everyone can fly for some reason. 5. Why isn't the blatant racism to faunaus culture that Ruby and the lot grew up with(In Beacon) being shown in stark contrast to the apparently more diverse and accepting culture of the current setting? Why aren't they reacting to it at all? Outside of these complaints everything seemed good, except I'm kinda curious to know where exactly this giant wasteland is located and why none of the characters mentioned it before?

Pls don't kill me. I critique because I love!

One, two, and four can be chalked up to difference in taste as far as the style of show(in it's current state). Clearly the farm boy scene didn't need a direct connection or relevance for the majority of the show's fans to enjoy the episode. I have nothing to really say about lighting as I could really care less, but that seems more like a taste thing. Over the top action in a fantastical setting that has zero basis in reality and characters performing acrobatic feats bothers you? As for three, we've never exactly spent a ton of time with Ren as a character before. When we did spend time with JNPR, it mostly revolved around Jaune and Pyrrha, maybe a few quips from Nora. And number five, Ruby has never exactly seemed like someone who is engaged in race issues or even someone who even thinks of race as a thing. As she showed with Penny, she seems to just see people as people regardless of anything else. So her not commenting on a lack of racism seems in-line with her apparent purity of character. It would be odd to me if she had commented on it. I'm not trying to say no criticism by the by, just offering my two cents on your critique.

    • Delta201

      1. His relevance to the story will definitely be longer than just being relevant to this volume, so it's more of a simple introduction.

      2. You're right, the forest looked meh, but definitely better than volume 1.

      3. Ren does talk too much, but it's keeping in touch with his character- "I don't think sloths make much noise" VS "But JNRR isn't a Colour" same thing

      4. Ruby has shown in the red trailer and episode 1 that she can jump pretty high. But is indeed using her semblance way too much, even when it's not necessary. Also jumping in midair is weird too, I agree with that.

      5. It's because Ruby and Co. have never really been racist against faunus, also the racism isn't as common as you're making it out to be. If it was, Ruby and Co. wouldn't have reacted so furiously over Cardin's bullying of Velvet.

I do agree there are some flaws in this episode, but most of what you listed aren't really what's wrong with this episode :/

I pretty much agree with your critique (except the faunus point, Ruby & Co. weren't racist), particularly your criticism of the "aerial maneuvers". Ruby's shown that while she can use her speed to propel herself upwards, she typically used it for horizontal movements and always used her semblance sparingly, preferring to utilize her scythe's recoil to maneuver quickly in combat. We see her use recoil once, maybe twice in the golem fight, and her semblance almost constantly with no sign of being tired. Aside from that, even very experienced fighters like Winter scaled walls rather than leap to the top of them, so how people can suddenly defy physics when the show was relatively grounded (note: relatively) before is really bothering me.

Along those lines, maybe it's just because this fight didn't feature other human combatants and just a Grimm golem, but the choreography didn't feel up to previous standards. The intro fights give me hope though.

Personally, my major criticism is the tone. I felt some whiplash from the end of Volume 3, suddenly feeling like the middle of season 1 again. I've heard the creators said Vol 3's end would be the darkest the series got, though I can't confirm that, but while I expected Ruby and team RNJR to move forward faster than the rest of team RWBY because of their conviction (e.g. the likely depressed and aimless Yang who lacked firm motivation even before suffering a huge loss), I figured it would feel like at least part of their reasons is the extremely powerful villain who up-heaved their lives, destroyed beacon, caused countless deaths including Penny, and murdered Pyrrha right in front of Ruby. No hint of that here, just a traveling fantasy plot. Sure it's just the first episode so I shouldn't pass judgement yet, but this is the ideal time to set the tone, and 8-12 months isn't long enough to be completely fine again after Vol 3.

I swear this show keeps getting better and better every year.

New bad guys, new Grimm, new revelations, new jokes, and progress to take the next step to keep moving forward… Monty would be proud of CRWBY.

Anyway! New bad guys are interesting. Tyrian is definitely there for the thrills, chills, and kills. Watts looks pretty uptight and Hazel looks hard to take down. I don't feel completely sorry for Cinder.

I don't know who Farm Boy is or why he's here but he's adorable and rather innocent looking, like Ruby!

Team RNJR seems to be doing good! The moment when they showed Jaune's upgraded weapons was beautiful, and touch and warmed my heart.

There's going to be a lot of interesting characters this Volume! This going to be fun!

I'm ready to rock and roll!!

You can never speak for those who have passed but I think it's fair to say that Monty would be very proud. the way these characters have all been hit and knocked down in their own way but are all getting back up from their personal losses and will be made stronger by them just shows what kind of writers we have. these are people who know loss. these are also people who, like their characters, are growing stronger, wiser, and more creative with every episode. You people are the shit

On another note, I liked Salem's comment: "Spring can wait". Spring is definitely a happy season of new beginnings and new life. I feel like this just confirms that this season is going to be extremely dark and cold. Even though she was talking about the spring maiden, it also sets up a dark and brooding mood. at the end cinder took pyrrahs head piece off, my guess is when qrow found ruby he also picked up the head piece. Ruby felt that Jayne should have it, therefore she gave it to him. Then he gave it to the blacksmith to add a touch of pyrrah to his armor. So she would always be with him.

And finally I think there's no more but now I find out in volume 4 that Salem's got a whole inner circle! Surely there's no more?

Well given that Cinder had Roman, has Emerald and Murcury and hopefully still has Neo, I think it's a safe bet that the other guys that work for Salem have their own big name subordinates. Also they have Adam and the white fang. And on top of that they still have that informant in Mistral which begs the question is that the only informant they have or do they have one in Atlas and Vacuo too?

    Actual speculation time.

My theory is that farm kiddo is both related to Cinder AND the next incarnation of the Wizard after Ozpin.  He'll realize his powers, become involved with our heroines, and convince Cinder to leave Salem's crew.  This will result in Cinder's final hour redemption, but she will be killed by Salem who will then inherit the ultimate weakness against the Silver Eyed Maiden, leading to Ruby being able to finally defeat her.

    • METAMAN666 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Counter speculation. Salem seems to smart to do that, mainly because she was the one who informed them about the 'Crippling Weakness." They only say Ozpin died, but nothing's confirmed other than 'he's missing'. And yes I'm going the we didn't see him die cliche, but in my defense they show Pyrrha die. They show Roman die. And they went into slow Mo to eventuate Pennies brutal death, or not death, we don't know, she was a robot.  And as for the farm boy, I think he's just that a farm boy who dreams of a bigger more exiting life and eventually joins the group.

    • MaskedStranger

Counter counter speculation (because yeah I though about that later :/).  Cinder is killed/purposely loses to someone else, but still passes on the Fall Maiden's power to Salem.  Cuz you know, that would just be a freakin' cool way to have Cinder and Salem go down.

    • Flip40 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold Potato

Counter speculation, Ozpin isn't dead, Salem is lying (for currently unknown reasons). If you consider their conversation from V1E1 and V3E12 together (and it is a single conversation), it heavily implies that Salem was talking to a captured Ozpin out in Grimmland™.

    • Delta201

I don't get why everyone thinks Ozpin is the old man from the story? In my honest opinion that's way too obvious, could you give any reason as to why you'd think that?

    • Delta201

Also since everyone is doing it: Counter counter counter counter speculation, Cinder kept Ozpin and plans on betraying Salem and needs Ozpin alive to do that. Obviously seen from this episode, Cinder doesn't like the other members of Salem's villain round table and she seems to be the only one who has her own group following her. She is also shown to be very irritated that she has to stay with Salem in that place which hampers her plans, whatever it is. Right now we don't know what Salem's or Cinder's plans are so its possible that Cinder plans to betray Salem in the future. Also the farm boy is the wizard, and is completely unrelated to Ozpin after all the boy has shown to have some visions when things happen (waking up from the dream) and looking into the direction of team RNJR/JNRR with a concerned look as he knows Tyrian is after them. Ozpin has shown to have none of those type of powers, lest he'd know who Cinder is, he'd have known what was going to happen and he'd also know all of Salems plans. The farm boy, or the wizard, is either not allowed to interfere with the world or he has no powers that could possibly stop Salem as he gave all his powers to the Maidens in the past and now he can basically do nothing apart from have visions.

It's Maya. Maya is a 3d animation program that's the industry standard. Most 3d animators learn how to use maya. Poser on the other hand isn't really geared towards industry level animation, which is why RWBY is basically the only show that used it.
