Theory time! All the headmasters are based from "The Wizard of Oz". Ozpin = Oz duh. General Ironwood = Tin-Man. And if Lionheart is talking to that man I bet he's a bit cowardly. Has this come up yet?

  • LCwolf1287

There's something oddly calming actually about this finale, volume and the state of the series as a whole compared to the end of the last volume. Don't get me wrong, we all know that there is still lots of buried corruption, we barely know anything about Raven (Oh, and I like her; I know, everyone else hates her), unanswered questions about Oz remain, the headmaster of Haven definitely can't be trusted, Vale is still in tatters, Remnant as a whole is still horribly fragmented, none of the primary characters have ever truly reached their full potential in combat or otherwise (that we have seen, anyway; we don't know what some of the older characters have accomplished in the past), and there's still a lot we don't know about the powers and abilities of many different characters. I hope they do a World of Remnant on semblances. I'd love to see that Remnant phenomenon explained.

I found out about and became a fan of RWBY and RT right after Vol. 2 was finished so I experienced the full ride of suspense accompanied with vol. 3 and the lead up to vol. 4. In between 3 and 4, I have to say, I was way more anxious to see the next vol. than I am to see vol. 5 right now. That's not me taking a jab at the series though; I LOVE RWBY. Vol. 4 was amazing and I'm really excited about vol. 5. The difference between then and now though is that the cliffhangers after vol. 3 feel very different compared to the cliffhangers at the end of vol. 4. It's almost like the playing field has been leveled ever so slightly in favor of Ruby and her compatriots and we got to learn that Qrow is going to be alright. I was worried there. Luckily, we only have to worry about the state of his liver now

I enjoyed this finale. My favorite was the intimate JNR moment. It was great to see Weiss and Yang hitting the road, and I'm really stoked for volume 5.

On the whole volume: I really liked that we got to know Blake, Yang and Weiss better, and that they've received noticeable character development. Ren and Nora backstory was also very emotional, and wonderfully executed.

The art has been lovely, the colors and everything. The action, especially the Tyrion fight was a lot of fun. Crow is just the best. Spending a little time with Taiyang was also really neat. Salem was a commanding presence every time she appeared, and her co-conspirators are all cool and mysterious.

Since the main reason I watch this series isn't the action, but rather the characters, I didn't mind that the story slowed down in this volume.

What I really missed is seeing more of Ruby's internal struggles and emotions. Her letter in this episode is delivered excellently by Lindsay, but otherwise it feels empty because Ruby's emotions and internal struggles had almost no focus in this volume at all, so the letter is a conclusion to a journey that.I never got to see.

True, I got a few glimpses into what she might be feeling, namely in chapter 2 when she witnessed Jaune practicing with Pyrrha's video, in chapter 10 when she told Jaune that it's all her fault, and in chapter 12, when she dropped a few tears while writing the letter. And I really appreciated these moments.

But I think they weren't enough. The reason I'm so concerned about this is because I love Ruby. She and Yang are my two favorite characters. And just like with Yang, I want to see Ruby fail, struggle and lose control before she succeeds. She saw two of her friends die with her own eyes, her sister wouldn't speak to her, and her team split, so she must be hurting. I really hope there will be more focus on her internal life next volume, especially considering that she's supposed to be the main protagonist.

But to end on a high note, I still really love this show and I truly appreciate all the effort and love that the crew has put into it. Shoutout to CRWBY, you guys are awesome!

    • Thaineland

I agree with much of what you are saying, however from what I've observed of the characters, Ruby doesn't quite need the same kind of development that her teammates do when it comes to trauma.

Remember back towards the end of season 2, when Oobleck questioned every member of team RWBY except for Ruby? And Yang said it was because Ruby always knew what she wanted to be, and why. It's a recurring theme for Ruby that her primary drive is to make the world a better place.

Also worth note is her last fight with Torchwick, and him trying to tell her what the 'real world' is like. (she clearly wasn't having any of that)

In psychology we call the ability to bounce back from trauma and withstand emotional adversity 'resilience', and it is typically a trait found in people who believe in something greater than themselves. (she also bears nearly every other quality of a resilient person, but I won't get into them all here)

Not all personalities need to be hammered into some new shape by their trials. Every so often, some kid manages to figure out what being a hero is all about before she's even old enough to fight.

I would have to agree with Thaineland's post before, with who Ruby is as a character whole with the resilience.  Also, I think at this point even if Ruby is experiencing a lot of inner turmoil we are not seeing she's having to be a big anchor to the three other team mates of the person who was lost.  Even if she has struggles we're not seeing, she can't express them at the current time in this chapter.  Not to say that it won't all come to a head by the end of chapter 6 for her, as I believe we'll be spending most of 5 building the other team members of RWBY so that they can be revealed to be the strength Ruby needs in her time of deepest turmoil.

Though that's just my suspicion in all this.

So....I love this series, it is literally the reason why I signed up for a membership. Right now though, the show is starting to follow the same problem of the Kill Bill series. First couple seasons in RWBY were all action, last couple of seasons were all story with little combat that was nowhere near as intense as the first seasons. Hell, I was grievously disappointed with this grimm. It had EVERYTHING going for it. Proper build up from flashback, teaser leading to final fight, emotional weight, and even the overall design is both ingenious and fucking terrifying...then all it did was stand in one spot and flail it's arms around like a retarded monkey that didn't realize the way to open a banana was not to smash it against the first person it sees. Though I must admit...I did have a happy little squeal at the Renora ship setting sail, but overall the season did end well, if a tad bit preachy. Still excited for the next season, and even RWBY Chibi, if that is to make a return.

I do truly love this series. It's a gorgeously in  depth world and so wondrously intricate that I want to know more about not just the characters, but everything this world has to offer. If I were to give advice, it would be to maybe take 2 weeks per episode. Previous artists and animators that I've seen who've struggled to keep up with the demand had their work suffer because of it. Take the time to step back, write a damn good story, because what you have so far is a too huge pile of a jumbled mess that just needs a bit more order and time to go through properly. We had 2 characters we know as evil have only one scene where they lie and walk off all evilly. Don't really see that as a reason to get opening title scenes. The animation has made enormous strides in quality, and I know will only continue to get better, though the characters are starting to stagnate, which is in part due to trying to get so many new ones screen time all at once. I would say take 2 weeks an episode. Make each episode 20-30 minutes long, but above all, don't lose the heart of this show. I know that everyone who works on this has poured so much effort into it, that I know they can continue to make the series grow. :)

Ive noticed that Raven and Adam have some very similar features.

They both wear masks that are similar to a Grimm...

And plus,Raven and Qrow mentioned being part of some sort of clan, right?

Maybe Adam is somehow connected to Raven,or knew her?

The episodes are bad because the writers are bad. It's a vicious cycle. I could point out as many things to prove that but it's too much since it's the writing style itself that's the problem.

      Hence, get better writers.

"If you claim without evidence, it can be disproven without evidence." You never mention any evidence to support your idea of the writers of RWBY being bad. If you keep dodging this question with "too many reasons to list" then I can safely assume that you're immature and you like to spread false propaganda.

You just say the writers are bad and don't give anything to back it up. You say they they messed up badly, yet don't say WHERE they messed up. You say the episodes are bad, yet they each made their point and most were better than the one the preceded them. If you think the writers are bad, yet make a poorly written and thought out comment, there's something wrong there.

I absolutely love Rens avenging angel style kill on what I feel is best described as an Apocalypse or Horseman Grimm. However what really brought on the tears was the that it was Nora that was the emotional staple that was able to hold Ren back from killing himself by acting recklessly during the fight.  Seeing Nora openly express her concern and need for Ren in her life really grounds her care-free enthusiasm and adds even more depth to her character.

You guys are slipping hard core on the continuity errors. The story is great, we definitly needed some character developement, yangs could have been...less whiney...but otherwise it was all quite nice.

Thank you for keeping sun as rediculously awesome as he is (fav male character by a long shot)
Weiss has some of the best story bits, but then, im biased (fav female character by a long shot). Seeing the ivincible qrow beaten in a straight fight did a lot to set the tone for the raw strength of the enemies our heroes have to fight. would love...LOVE, some insight into exactly what the hell is going on with ozpin and why he transfered to this farm boy. Would also love to know a bit more of whats behind the silver eyes.
Oh yea, and when it comes to the new animation style, you guys get a lot of hate from a very vocal set of people. But, i speak for many many fans here when i tell you that the new style is amazing. Fights are smoother, all movement is more fluid and making huge strides for more natural movements.

All in all you guys have done extremely well this season and wed all love to see you keep it up.

I'm not sure that whatever happened with Ozpin and Oscar is the same as the Maidens transfer of power.  If it were, then wouldn't Cinder be hearing Amber, along with all the other past incarnations of the Fall Maiden?  Ozpin may have never heard about Oscar until he woke up in his head.  To be fair, the writers haven't done a good job explaining the situation at all.  We'll just have to wait 9 months and hope they do better.

Amazing.  By far the best anime out.  With the help of Monty, you did it ...again.  The understory of Red vs Blue was so intriguing that I didn't think you could do something equal to that. The website with all its raunchy, sophomoric silliness never gave a hint that something deep, wonderful and meaningful could come out Rooster Teeth.  RWBY easily surpasses RvB ...easily.

Keep it up.  Very good.  All the accolades that you receive are well deserved.  Yes, I want my grandchildren to see it, too.

Fantastic finish to a wonderful volume.  This volume definitely had a different feel from the previous ones, but RT pulled it off very, very well.  We finally got to see Ren and Nora's backstory!  And I especially loved how everything shook out in the final few episodes: WBY starts moving again, each on their own, but at the same time.  Very well done.

Plus, Qrow lived!  Definitely didn't see that coming!  It was great to finish this volume with a victory, rather than the defeat that had been set up/foreshadowed.  Way to keep breaking the mold, RT!  Well done!

Please have Neo show up next season, she would make a perfect helper for Dr Watts, and it also adds another character who hates Ruby. Just to see Neo in disguise as Watts assistant or something would be great. Also we would maybe see a rematch between Neo and Yang and see how much better Yang has gotten. I want her to test herself against someone who easily beat her before she fights Adam.

    • Kerisato

To be honest I'm curious if Yang improved at all. While Ruby was out in the world, fighting monsters and learning tactics, Yang was either moping or practice sparing with her dad. Of RWBY team, only Ruby and Weiss seemed to be doing any kind of training.

If Neo is alive (crossing my fingers) I sincerely doubt she'd find Yang much more of a challenge. Remember Neo has proven with Yang just like she proved with Ruby that she's nigh untouchable. (My theory is her Semblance allows her to avoid either any direct attack or any attack she can see coming). And unlike Yang, Ruby actually does try indirect routes, and is much faster. Even Raven with the jump on Neo didn't score a hit, though maybe with that red sword something could have happened, because Neo did retreat pretty quick.

I think, much like with Mercury and Emerald, Neo is much more talented than she appeared.

I figured out what the relic is  at beacon. In volume 1 Glynda asks Ozpin on what he used for the relic that year. The relic is a item that each academy has, Ozpin most likely disguise the relic as a chess piece that would explain why Salem has not found the relic at Beacon. Or the relic is divided into the set of chess pieces seen in volume 1 to make sure that the relic is almost impossible to find at beacon. Or im just reading far far in between the lines of plot.

A+ Episode. I was kind of worried about the content after Season 3 because I've no clue how far Monty Oum planned this. But this season really continued in the same vein as the third; building up an epic tale and steering clear of more basic story telling. Hats off to Roosterteeth for that.

The fight with RNJR versus the Nuckevalee Grimm was incredible. Simply awesome. (And it was none-too-short, which is always good.) Everyone got a chance to shine. Those arms were just weird-ing me out and when it tore its stitched mouth like that to yell... Ugh. Definitely hoping they (RT) name it Harbinger Grimm. It just looked and fought like something that claws its way out of hell every morning, then spends the day slowly being dragged back, leaving it caught between two realms of existence; within one it must obey certain laws of physics and experience the effects of a corporeal body, but the other half can violate the rules in the most hideous, unnatural manner possible.

It's official, Ren Lie has one of the most practical Semblences yet. He really is perfect Huntsman material.

That brief moment where Nora Slapped him then started pleading/telling him not to die in vain, really plucked my heart strings. Especially when Ren briefly saw her as the little girl she used to be when they met. I loved the tactics RNJR developed, on the spot, to counter the Nuckevalee. More so towards the end; Ren using Juane's shield, Nora having Ruby fling her with her scythe, Juane's expanded sword. Heck, Ruby's scythe work was incredible. It was over-the-top but really felt like they were desperate enough to attempt anything. The short "Boop" moment when Ren and Nora were pinned or hanging against the wall and Nora was like "Stop staring!" but smiling when she looked away was perfect.

    And Qrow didn't die! (whew*

And the ending... Wow. So much foreshadowing! Yang is probably going to meet up with Blake and Weiss will likely end up meeting with Ruby and RNJR in Season 5. I'm guessing Yang is going to have a shot at vengeance against Adam (though I doubt it's going to go well). Weiss will probably be working with her sister to get used to life without Schnee wealth. And now Ruby and the rest of RNJR have to figure what exactly they're aiming to do.

Watts is not the headmaster, but apparently is a confident? And the headmaster of Haven knows he (Watts) knows Salem?!  I also thought Cinder was going to betray Salem but it looks like she might have rediscovered her hate and power. Wonder if she'll be sent after Ruby.

And the post credit scene: Not gonna lie that was one heck of a cliff-hanger. I wonder if that cane will allow Ozpin to reconnect to his power or will he use Oscar as a conduit, to access its power?

This season had a good feel to it, but honestly it wasn't as climactic as i'd have liked. The fight with the horseman was very good, liked that alot. Loved the story with Wise escaping. However, i don't like how it took an entire season for her to escape and an entire season for Yang to recover. This season seemed to have too much of the "Oh no... /these/ are the bad guys? huh? what? who are the bad guys? these are all so new bad guys" and not enough of them realizing who their true enemies were. every town that Ruby and her gang travled to seemed to be "suprise" after "suprise" with Ren (don't think that's how you spell his name idk) having to explain every single tale. Did they learn nothing in that school of theirs?

As far as Yang and Weiss, it taking 'an entire season' is close to realistic, given their respective issues are nothing to sneeze at in real life, and can easily take 'much' longer to get over with (if they do at all).

Moreover, RWBY's volumes work in arcs, such as Vol's 1-3 being an arc, and Vol. 4 being the start of the next one, working into Vol's 5 and 6; it wasn't exactly time to be climatic, just like the finales of Vol. 1 and 2 were light compared to 3's.

Weiss!! Her name is spelled Weiss, damn it!

Wise and Weiss are two completely different words, "wise is pronounced wize" and "Weiss is pronounced Wh-ice"!

This was a character development season.  Each member of RWBY had their major personal failings exposed and then corrected: Ruby doesn't actually know what's going on and just blindly flies into battle, but learned what's actually happening; Weiss hadn't fully committed to being a Huntsman and was still relying on her family's finances and name, but has now rejected all that; Blake ran away and continued to pull away from help (Sun), but learned that she can't protect people that way and doesn't need to suffer alone to protect those she cares about; Yang (obviously) suffered for her immediate and thought-less attack on Adam and for her fighting style that relies entirely on her Semblance, but has had to learn to be a more versatile and thoughtful fighter.  Plus we got a lot of backstory on Ren/Nora.

Silly, it didn't take an entire season for Yang to recover.  It took four episodes.
