Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

The downside to this, and the reason it's not a default setting, is that it can cause pages to load incorrectly. Some older servers don't support this feature, and will display the pages incorrectly. It can also cause problems with images, etc. There's a discussion about this and several other tweaks here.

Personally, I'd rather have every page load correctly and take a bit longer, but it's really up to you.

I dont think it would use up more bandwith, just occupy more connections. Some servers might see this as an attack if you're using 30 threads at once.

Then again, I don't really know what I'm talking about.

I've been using these alterations for a while and I've not noticed any web pages loading incorrectly.
I've also not been banned from any servers and I have noticed an increase in the speed at which pages load.

Don't know why offhand. You could try downloading FireFTP - a ftp client extension for Firefox. It might work better.

I use linkification which will turn a url in plain text into a link.
It's great for these forums because everyone screws up link tags the first few times.

where can you get themes for firefox other than the default "get more themes" site. I went there, but they only had like 50 and half of them didn't have any images to go along with them so I had no idea what they would look like.
