since there have been so many of these, I'm making an official one and stickying it so it won't get archived. Post any firefox questions, cool plugins, news, etc. here. Any further threads about firefox will be locked.
what to upgrade your firefox experiance?? then click here! there can get all sort of upgrades for your downloads, search tools, and music my favorites are "Tabbrowser Preferences" , "Adblock" and "Bandwidth Tester"
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.
3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.
If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!
The downside to this, and the reason it's not a default setting, is that it can cause pages to load incorrectly. Some older servers don't support this feature, and will display the pages incorrectly. It can also cause problems with images, etc. There's a discussion about this and several other tweaks here.
Personally, I'd rather have every page load correctly and take a bit longer, but it's really up to you.
I've been using these alterations for a while and I've not noticed any web pages loading incorrectly. I've also not been banned from any servers and I have noticed an increase in the speed at which pages load.
Once you go Mouse Gestures, you never go back. This is a more full-featured version of the googlebar included with firefox. Want to go up a level on a webpage? Now you can!
I use linkification which will turn a url in plain text into a link. It's great for these forums because everyone screws up link tags the first few times.
where can you get themes for firefox other than the default "get more themes" site. I went there, but they only had like 50 and half of them didn't have any images to go along with them so I had no idea what they would look like.
