very wrong. when i made a journal post (please ignore it, I was in a bad mood), i was going to ask if one of my firends could mod it up for me, then i quickly remembered that that is probably modcheating. MODS. Burn this guy for his blatant modcheating!
However, if you really want to gain mod points, make a lego version of the blood gultch series. (for all you sponsors, I'm talking about brick gultch in the sponsors only forum) The person who made the ENTIRE first episode using legos has about +186 cool for the lo-res version, and another +20 cool for the hi-res version (subsequently, his karma is very high)
Lets say you observe someone is blantently modcheatinf/trading. For example:
Loser1 posts a very stupid thread that says nothing. Her first and second posts each get +5. The post in between is by Loser2, her friend.
You go look at Loser 2's homepage and you see a one sentence journal entry inexplictibly was awarded 37 +cool mods.
Someone comments on it. Several people tell them they know they are modcheating.
Someone posts it in the Hand tread. In the meantime, Loser 1 starts this lame line about "someone hacked into my account" even though she had not logged off (and they can tell from the IPs.)
What happens next? What should the people who observed the modcheating/trading do?
Tell a MOD. Give them all the info and links about the situation. They can only do so much on the issue and will generally forward the info to the staff. From there, they will lock the accounts, and if it persists from them an IP address block my be brought about. However, it's all up to the MOD and Staff to determine the course of action. But if what you said is the case, the account should suffer the wrath of THE_HAND regardless since the rules are clear and it is still cheating, regardless if it was a "hacker" or them being a lame, cheating mofo.
You provide good tips, but I'd just like to say one thing...
It's not about the karma. too many people get too wierd about karma. Yes, it's nice to see the "I am almost at level two and have been part of this forum for 3 days", but does it really matter? in the end, it's all about having fun and contributing to your online community.
However, I will be following your tips. they are about web courtesy and being an enjoyable web.. person.. thing.
(I am aware that this post sounds really corny, but it's just what I wanted to say.)
Well I'm glad that I wandered into here. I have been working on my grad school application for the past week or so and haven't been able to jump on here. So when I come back I see I'm down a level and a few karmas. So naturally I'm curious and a little pissed. So I check all my last posts and see nothing wrong. But the inactivity thing makes sense now. Thankfully I can put away the gun now.
I really don't care about my karma level and people should only really care if they are in negative karma, come to Rossterteeth to have fun. But that is very helpful advice for someone who does care.
