I really thought with more flashbacks, Korra was going to hit the Avatar state. I wonder if that's what they're leading up to, like something CRAZY will be shown when the flashbacks get pieced together and Korra will trigger the Avatar state or something. Great fight though and I love that Lin gave Korra a chance finally!
I'm so glad they've got the announcer to do the episode recaps. Means he gets to stick around even if he doesn't have pro bending to announce anymore. :-)
That was badass. THAT is the kind of thing I expected to see from Toph's daughter. She may be kind of a bitch, but at the same time she's got those qualities of loyalty and heroism and just plain kickassitude that her mom had. She needs to teach Korra metalbending and get the girl some of those awesome gauntlets the cops have with the metal cables inside.
Nice ending to the pro-bending tourney, but seriously, I don't buy that anyone could get away with cheating that obviously for the entire match. There has to be some sort of protocol to replace a ref who is obviously crooked.
What happened to the police blimps? They just vanished when the bad guy blimp showed up. And where the hell was Tenzin during the air battle? He's the only airbender around! You'd think it would be sort of his moment when they're fighting in mid-air.
"I am currently wetting my pants." I love you, Mr. Announcer Man.
Ok, so what did we get from the flashback? Anything new? I don't remember what all we saw last time. Here's what we saw this time: Police chief (?) Toph points something or someone out to Aang (probably someone):
Aang goes all Avatar State on someone's ass (maybe takes his bending away?):
And is it just me, or does this bad guy from the past look kinda like our friend Tarlok?
If I had a criminal in court that it took the Avatar to bring down, I might want the Avatar sitting pretty near him in court, just in case. But if Aang is sitting in the audience seats, I don't think there's any significance to which side he's sitting on (well, there isn't in American courts. Who knows how Republic City courts work).
I gotta say, my favorite episode since the first. My favorite part was when Korra was talking to Tenzin, and the soap opera music starts, and he became so flustered. That whole scene was just amazing.
Actually, the whole episode was amazing. I mean, that rooftop scene? Fight with Lieutenant? Partner with Lin Bei Fong? WOOOOOOOOT.
Also, the Fire Ferret Fangirls; the blue one looked like the old foamer...you know the one that caught the helmet?
Hmm... it seems that so far Amon has only taken the bending from people who are "bad". First it was criminals at the revelations, now it was a cheating probending team. I mean, he had Team Avatar, the chief of police and a council member at their mercy, and he chose the Scumbats for a bend-dectomy.
^ He doesn't want to make martyrs, so targeting people that have been bad or who have oppressed the non-benders first makes sense. It's easier to garner support if you don't target those who could generate sympathy like respected members of the community or the Avatar. As he said, those he passes over now will have their reckoning eventually once he has enough support to get away with it.
So in last airbender, Aang would have, maybe not mastered, but at least gotten pretty good at the element each season was named after by the end of the season (book). This first season of Korra is called Air. We're about halfway through, and Korra hasn't produced so much as a breeze. Do we think she'll master air by the end of the season? Though I guess it's only fair to keep in mind that it was episode 9 of season 2 before Aang moved any rocks, and episode 13 of season 3 before he made fire (not counting The Deserter, of course). And what will season 2 be called?
I'm hedging my bets that Book 2 will be called "Spirit". What else is there for her to learn next but to get in touch with the spiritual side of bending and unlocking the Avatar State?
For the record, the announcer's name is "Shiro Shinobi". Which, according to my sources (TVTropes Wiki) is Japanese for "white ninja". So even his name is awesome. Looking even further, the guy who voices him is Jeff Bennett. Who's apparently done a lot of other awesome voices, too. No wonder the announcer's so lovable.
