I think Microsoft will try to step into the Handheld business eventually, but right now there's to much comotion over DS and PSP, they'd be smart to wait at least until they can figure out something they can put into a handheld that those two dont have already. Plus, considering the step into comparing consoles, timming will also be an issue. I wouldnt be surprised if they dont have one being designed right now, but with the Xbox comming out soon, I dont think theres much on the horizon for a handheld Xbox.
If/when one does come out, It'd have to do something that my PSP doesnt do, because unless Halo came out for it, Im not sure if I'd buy it right away... as for the DS, I'd only buy that if Smash Brothers came out for it, then boom, Im buying.
oh good God yes! i'm pretty sure one coming out is inevitable. but the question is, is how much the darn thing will cost....? i mean if psp is $250 or something, wouldn't a handheld that will most likely have better graphics like halo be even more?
It is definatley possible but not worth it this close to the x-box 360 release. They need to put most of their money and time to make the 360 a platinum release.
You mean into the older controllers right? Because the new 'S' type controllers are too smal for a screen of decent size unless it jutted out of the top or summat.
Who said anything about no joysticks? Two years ago you'd complain about the use of cartridges but the PSP changed that. It could be done but we don't really need 3 companies going after the handheld market, too (with one company having two products out, no less).
Wasn’t the rumor going around that Microsoft is starting to develop games for the Gizmondo? Seen this baby at E3 and was impressed by it, maybe its the big M's way of testing the handheld water.
Yeah, Microsoft has pledged support for that handheld above. After all, it does use Microsoft Media Player. Still, Microsoft has stated that they don't have plans to develop a handheld and rather focus on the home conoles war instead.
If all goes as planned and they get it down to $99 by the end of the year I see no reason not to own both... handhelp gaming+GPS+digital camera=pretty kick ass in my book
MOD IF YOU LIKE... Could Microsoft be preparing to drop a potential bombshell with the Xbox 2? We don’t know anything for certain yet, but check out this tantalizing bit of gossip we received in response to our post earlier today about the Xbox 2 and whether or not it’s going to sport a hard drive:
Regarding the Xbox 2 hard drive, I was snowboarding in Whistler, B.C. from February 19 - 26, 2004. We were in a bar called the Amsterdam Cafe in the village one night and J. Allard, the head of Microsoft’s Xbox division was in the bar with some friends. I recognized him from a recent Business 2.0 article and we started talking. (He bought my friends and I a round of drinks he called “Hey Zeuses†- they were Red Bull and tequila and they were nasty.) Anyway, we were talking about the Xbox 2 and he said their current plan was not to include a hard drive in the Xbox 2 itself, but to offer a portable hard drive as an accessory you could buy separately. Here’s the kicker: He said what they were trying to do was to incorporate MP3 (and WMA, obviously) functionality into the portable hard drive and turn the thing into an iPod killer. Basically, the idea was to come up with an MP3 player that was as good or better than the iPod that would also serve as the hard drive for the Xbox 2. And he said they planned to sell them as a loss leader at $100 each.
If this is true (and let’s be clear that we haven’t gotten any independent confirmation of this), it would be huge, although we’re still a long way off from the Xbox 2 going on sale and a lot of things could change between now and next year.
A handheld made by Microsoft...I could both see it happen, and see people dying beacuse of it as well, I don't know, if they play there cards right, then they can pull it off.
The only thing bad about a microsoft handheld would be, well nothing but, microsoft will find a way to mess it up. But if they were to make it right, heck ya there should be one! Playing Halo on a long car ride would be great.
They'll probably step into the handheld market sometime in the future. Right now there's too much conflict with the PSP and DS to insert yet another handheld.
The things i have in mind Microsoft can do is bieng able to actually play XBOX games, a hard drive, and a screen large enough to play Halo but small enough to fit in your pocket. I might be thinkin fold out buttons so the system's screen would be as big as the PSP whileit can still fit in your pocket, you know? Who cares if it's a little wider? Hey I should design it!
It would be cool if Micorsoft decided to do handhelds but tis not really their style and Bill Gates said they have no time for handhelds because its a waste of time for them.
