we've seen him bunch and stuff in the pictures it could be his new down smash, or just down attack although we've also seen him do his leg sweep move, which is his traditional down smash
so it say's under the tornado punch that it may be a standard attack so instead of debating lets just assume Sakurai is telling us the truth when he makes a post... also i like that FLUDD is in it and i also like that they don't show everything about a level or characters moves that way we can still have some surprises in the game when we get it... i mean if they show every move then we will know everything before we play and that is no fun
maybe it'll work like samus and ganondorf's fancy charge slam-kick moves.
ya know, the ones that your not 100 percent on how to do it except that you always do it on accident in the worst possible place/time....or is that just me that happens to?
You've missed something else in your theory. So far, every character who's had the "Warning! Challenger Approaching!" label has been a character who we have had no previous knowledge about. They've neither been in either of the previous games nor have they previously been confirmed via some other method. Until I see evidence to the contrary, such as Luigi or Snake or Jigglypuff or some other character that we already know is in the game show up with that label, I will have no reason to think any other way.
Hmm...You're probably right. I didn't notice that trend, but since you pointed it out to me I'm sold. Actually, now that's what I believe too. We know that Meta Knight is a starter. All the characters from the original trailer are undoubtedly starters though. I also think that any character new to the game, that wasn't announced in the original trailer, will be unlockable. And if we've learned anything from the transition of the original SSB to SSBM it's that, any starters that where in melee will be starters in brawl.
Super Smash Bros Melee: 14 starters, 11 unlockable, 25 total characters Starters: Mario, Bowser, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Captain Falcon, Fox, Ness, Ice Climbers, Kirby, Samus, Zelda, Link, Pikachu, Unlockables: Dr. Mario, Falco, Ganondorf, Luigi, JigglyPuff, Marth, Young Link, Mewtwo, Mr. Game & Watch, Pichu, Roy
For one thing, all the starters from SSB are starters in Melee (in bold) and 2 of the unlockables from SSB are starters in Melee ( underlined). Luigi and JiggilyPuff are still unlockable though, so I think we will keep seeing these two as unlockable characters.
None of the starters in Melee were clones of each other (this is important because there will not be many if any clones at all in brawl). Only unlockable characters were clones so we don't have to worry about them taking out any of the previous starters for that reason. I think were going to see all of the Melee starters (except Ice Climbers?) as starters in Brawl.
As for the unlockable characters in Melee being starters in Brawl, we will have to eliminate the lesser clones. In the case of Marth and Roy, it appears that both of them will not be in Brawl and instead will be replaced with Ike, which I believe will not be a starter. Also, there has been talk of no Mr. Game and Watch, so I will count him out as well.
Ok, after the eliminations we are left with; Ganondorf and Mewtwo... ...Wow, I thought their would be more... Anyway, I don't see these characters as starters though. Neither has gotten a mention on the site yet. Now, you may be thinking; "What? Ganondorf is a clone of Captain Falcon." But I've heard that Ganondorf has a different move set. Captain Falcon may have a different move set also, but the important thing is that both of these characters are certain to stay in the game and they will not be clones anymore.
In further research, I just saw a Melee trailer that featured exactly the 14 starters. I also just saw the N64 trailer which featured only 4 of the 8 starters. The fact that the N64 trailer didn't have all the starters does mean that their could be more starters in Brawl than their are in the trailer. However, I don't think that this is the case and I'm going to go with the Melee trailer since it's latest thing, but I'm not completely ruling out the others that aren't in the trailer. Anyway, like I stated above, the Melee trailer featured the exact 14 starters. This means that it is entirely likely that the Brawl trailer features all of it's starters and that the trailer never features unlockable characters. So, to settle the Meta Knight thing; Meta Knight is a starter and so are the other characters in the trailers.
To sum it all up; These characters are starters: Mario, Kirby, Pikachu, Link, Wario, Meta Knight, Pit, Samus/Zero Suit Samus, Snake, Fox. (This would make sense with The Subspace Emmisary since you have to rescue Zelda or Peach right away. Those two weren't in either trailer and therefor not on that list.)
Other possible starting characters (if there are any): Yoshi and Donkey Kong. These guys were starters since the beginning of smash bros., but I'm still skeptical.
I have one last method to eliminate possible characters from being starters. If the character hasn't been mentioned on the site yet then their is little doubt in my mind that they are not a starter. The same rule even applies to the characters that were starters in previous games. Since characters like Captain Falcon and Ness have no mention in this game yet, I can't help but think that they are not starters. If there are new characters that are starters then there is no reason why a starter from a past game is not even on the site yet.
By the numbers: I have the data of starters and unlockables in SSB and Melee above and I know that the clones are getting cut out. Using those I predict that Brawl will have about 30 characters in total:
10 starters; Mario, Kirby, Pikachu, Link, Wario, Meta Knight, Pit, Samus/Zero Suit Samus , Snake, Fox. (I'm counting Samus and Zero Suit Samus as one character)
About 20 unlockables; Being the next game in a series, the amount of characters in Brawl will undoubtedly go up, but for the first time there are less starters. Also, you can't put nearly half the characters from Melee into Brawl because they are clones. So what do you do? Boost the number of unlockables!

The fact that there are less starters (including not making veteran characters like Yoshi and Donkey Kong starters) tells me that this game will focus on one of the most fun aspects of video games; unlocking and discovering new things in the game. It would go hand in hand with the Subspace Emissary. Since you would have almost twice as many characters to unlock compared to Melee, the Subspace Emissary can be very long. Playing that adventure mode, which has already been made obvious to be the main way to unlock characters, you can potentially have a great amount of characters to unlock with a very long, stimulating and fun campaign. Only a big chunk of unlockable characters would have to be unlocked that way though. The rest can be unlocked by achievements that take place in other parts of the game.
You read the whole thing? Then why aren't you commenting or saying that I'm right or wrong or anything? Anyway, here are the statistics on my ridiculously long post:
Stats on the whole post: Words: 1,168 Characters (no spaces): 5,501 Characters (with spaces): 6,702 Lines: 116
Stats for when it cut off: Words: 1,023 Characters (no spaces): 4,815 Characters (with spaces): 5,869 Lines: 104
I copied that beast into a word document and saved it on my jump drive.
incorrect. for over and A (not smash) attacks, you can tilt slight down or up and the attack will be directed in that direction. I dunno if it's like that for all character, but most. and it really doesn't change anything, besides the animation, but it's there
In reply to ElWaldorf, #14878: True, but only the first paragraph, that's in response to Robosheep, is about the "Warning! Challenger Approaching!" banner. Everything else in that post is a separate thought.
Although that banner brings up another question. When you unlock a character in the Subspace Emissary what happens? They don't fight you, that's for sure.
ok what how was i wrong about saying mario's attack the tornado is now an a attack? anyway i believe sakurai even if you don't and this update has been my favourite to date i love the music in these games and if i can earn many songs through CD's i will be so content.... i like Sakurai's comment in the pokemon song part "What Samus is evolving"
