The truth about halo 2... [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ]

it makes sense, but really, i still liked the game, so for throwing it together, they did a good job. and i hear eric nylund is making the 4th book, almost out. and this caught my attention:
" Grunts without their masks actively seen in campaign. Render available."

Well, if you saw a grunt without its mask, it wouldn't be a threat. grunts breathe methane, so earth atmosphere would cause them so suffocate.. but other that that, yeah, the article sounds about right. the games still fun. yeah, im a pissed about the story, and how they screwed up, but the story still kicks ass. and earth wouldn't be destroyed by the covenant. its the arc, and they need it. and, if you pay attention, you can make a reasonable guess that humans are the fore-runners that built halo. all the halos have a destruction range of 25,000 miles or something like that. someone got out a star map ans put it together..the only possible way that the halos could destroy as much of the universe as possible is if they were all just out of range of earth and sol. another reason earth wouldn't be devastated. but for the simple fact that earth it the arc, tells us that the covenant would take extra care around it to ensure that it was capable of carrying out what it was ment to.

finally, dont get pissed at him,

I'm not pissed at him

This is what pissed me off.
In reply to MofuggerX, #17:
I forgive you, Bungie. =)

Well, you shouldn't. They took a tech demo to E3 and toted it as the game.

Who the fuck do you think you are telling me what I should and shouldn't do?

And while I'm still at it, here's a few more things I'll point out.
27. Fuel Rod Gun being in multiplayer as an effective Rocket equivilent.

This could have easily been added in either the updates or the Map Pack... but it wasn't. Why not? Probably because there's a reason.
17. Jungle and Arctic variants of the Warthog. Renders made.

What the hell good would these be for? There are no snow missions in Halo 2, and as for the "jungle variant"... honestly, how the fuck would a different texture map make it that much better?
15. Grunts without their masks actively seen in campaign. Render available.

Okay, time to sound nerdy. Name one mission with a methane atmosphere. You can't? Well no shit, because there aren't any. Technically, Grunts breathe methane, and without their masks in a non-methanic atmosphere, they would suffocate. Unless you want the game to take you to fucking Titan (one af Saturn's many moons), I fail to see how this could possibly be done.

What he is saying, that there would have been snow, jungle area....if that hadn't happened.

But, what has happened with the muck up...has actually given the storey line abit more power into it. Okay we missed the fun of watching earth being attacked and i for one really wanted to play on earth destroying jackels that were in formation. But we Have more storey line in it now, more of what the covernant had of weopons and units. And we saw prophets. And when H3 comes out it'll be good to see the detail of what they have done...

Find proof and I'll take your word for it. Right now, you can't be certain of that.

And yes, the "muck up" did allow Bungie to add way more story to Halo instead of just "the Covenant are on Earth, and Chief needs to save the world". I actually like the addition of the Arbiter, I think he's a really cool character and I enjoy the Heretic missions you play as him.

Darn, pressed submit and didn't mean too.

Anyway, do you think a new covernant is going to form between elites-hunters-grunts-humans? seeing as they have 'technically' helped eachother out.

cool stuff but the drop pods are in Outskirtes if you speed up with a ghost or Warthog at the end of the beach you can see them comming out of the Phantom so they are still intact. : )

I'm aware of that.

But words are words. If arranged correctly, it doesn't really matter where I read/hear them, they still get under my skin.

So it's almost 2 AM in the morning and I'm not tired and I feel like saying stuff and nothing is coming to mind. MofuggerX is offline :-( and I feel like making fun of someone but nobody has said anything to leave themselves open for attack. So Mofugger, since you're not on and can't defend yourself...I'll make fun of you you freaking noob. Okay, I'm done. Happy shopping everyone. Not.

You also forgot some things.

Using the D-Pad as an ability to drop your weapon to give to another player.
Also the ablity to look around corners Ghost Recon style.
Also the sprint ablility was taken out.
Also the ability to lay down while sniping.

BTW, all these things where done with the now useless D-pad.

I've watched the LE DVD and although some of this is true, alot of it is just misperception. I think this is just some kid who didn't like Halo 2 trying to look really smart.

I tend to think of this thread as nothing more than nit picking things that weren't in the game that were promised before. As an older gamer, I don't really care what they have or don't have in the game. As long as it's entertaining and can keep my attention, I consider it a good game.

Halo 2, with it's "fuck ups" is still a very good game, and a story that puts many RPG's to shame, as well. That is, of course, my opinion. Would I have liked to see the final battle on Earth? Sure, I would have, but I think the direction Bungie with is a much better direction overall.

I look at it this way. The Elites have always been the ass kickers of the Covenent, and it was because of the Elites that the Convenent had the Hunters and the Grunts. The Grunts and Hunters siding with the Elites is really just them being loyal (or in the Grunts case, they went with the species that didn't think of them as food). I posted this in another thread, but basically the covenent was split between the more logical species (Elites, Grunts, and Hunters) and the more animalistic species (Jackels, Brutes, and the Buggers).

I see, so just splitiing the covenent into two. So making two covenent? Or just one smaller covenant? And do you think the humans would side with the elites seeing as they are....well...friendlier than normal.

I've already said before, that the whole attack on earth could still be done, truth is on a forerunner ship heading for earth, while the rest of his fleet is probably flying in behind him. so in halo 3 we fight through the entire invasion to get to truth, and stop him from finding the ark. we learn throughout the campaign, of course, most likely all the answers to the questions that the games and books bring up.

as for the arbiters story, he'll be fighting through a flood ridden high charity looking for a ship, and meeting cortana on the way, obviously, the arbiter always has the small missions, he's meant for special operations.

the story had to be changd a bit ya, but it still can work out...i mean cmon, its bungie.

Well, I've read this whole thread, and I'd liek to say a few things before I begin: First, let's please not turn this into a "I want *Blank* in Halo 3" thread, that's not what this about; second, I believe I have a rather different view of the game, because, I was inspired to buy Halo and Halo 2 in the October before the release, and I did not get it until christmas of the same year, that having been said, I would like to point ou t a few things that I have noticed/not been affected by during my time playing both games.

1)The original Halo took 4, FOUR, years to make, given that information, Halo 2 was pretty damn good for having been made in 10 months, if you don't believe me, go to Bungie.bet and look up Sarge's welcome oration in the video section of Halo.

2)The demo: yes, it was despicable to have been toted as a real game, but the point of the demo was to hype everyone up for H2, lots of companies do this, but bungie had the misfortune of being extremely popular and being somewhat unfocused in their goals for the game.

3)The real question is, and I'm basing this off of my experience of not noticing the real popularity of Halo until after December 25, 2004, Is Halo 2 a good game, rgardless of what you expected it to be? I say yes, it's disapointing, from a fan's perspective, but still good from a gamer's perspective.

Very good points there. And i think that i might agree with it all. But when your a big company, wouldn't you put all you forcus on the game that will bring in the most money for you?

most people get corrupted by money. people are usually good and get famous for what they do, and then they go with the idea that give them more money than keep doing what they are great at their own way. look at tiger woods, great golf player until nike gave him all types of contracts and now he isnt as good cause he uses nike clubs instead of his own
