Since the old threads are gone, I figured we need a new one.

First, this thread is simply for stating your station on the political spectrum, IE liberal or conservative or somewhere in between.

If you dont know, some of the following tests can be useful, even if you think you know, I suggest you take them because it is informative to the rest of the community and you may learn something

the Political Compass

The worlds shortest political quiz Biased to make people more libertarian than they are.

The Vosem Chart locator a large and complicated test that judges your affinity to a number of political ideologies. 100% means you completely agree 0% means the oppisite.

If there's another test you like feel free to post it.

Second, however, I dont care so much about exactly what your political ideology is, I want to see you justify it. Why do you believe what you believe?

If the best you can come up with is that liberals/conservatives are dirty fearmongering cockbites, I suppose that might satisfy you, but that make me think you've never thought about your positions. The best justifications provide support for what you believe, not justify your position by attacking the oppisite.

To set the example.

I score to the right of center and slightly libertarian in the political compass and a libertarian centrist in the shortest political test. I break the vosem chart because I'm too close to the center and all of my ratings come out over 70%.

File does not exist.

My individual political philosophy is based aroudn the idea that classical liberal society has become strong because it allows human nature, one acting in ones own best interest, when taken writ large, to provide for society as a whole. I attempt to judge most government programs on whether they benefit society as a whole by increasing the freedom of people to act in their own self interest, while limiting the option of using ones freedom to harm others.

EDIT: apparently pictures still arent working, my political compass is Economic left/right 2.5, Liberatarian/Authoritarian -2.5. Just to the right of center and below the middle vertical access. There arent any world leaders in tha quadrant, but I'm about as libertarian as MIlton friedman, but somewhat more liberal.

I don't feel like taking that political compass test again, but suffice to say I'm a libertarian-conservative. I would justify my position by saying that I'm a strong believer in minding my own business, but I'm not quite laissez-faire.

When it comes to social issues I'd say I'm liberitarian, and economic issues I'm more conservative as unregulated businesses doesn't sound so productive to me.

I think after w eek or so we should compile an average and see, once and for all, what kind of bias (if any) this community has.

Also, I'm more left wing than swooper.

Yeah, I don't expect there to be too many big shocks in this thread. I'm guessing DM's not going to come in here and post:

Economic Left/Right: -10.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 9.95

I've softened in my ripe age of 19.

Economic Left/Right: -1.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.23

Perhaps it's because a lot of those questions, I don't feel comfortable answering on the scale they provide.

Well I score as Liberal or Socialist on every quiz I take. The Vosem quiz didn't have any selection for Socialist so I ended up 100% Liberal and only 8% Conservative.

So yes, typically I'm easily classified as a Liberal, although I can disagree with that. I'd rather maintain fiscal Conservatism. I don't believe in deficit spending unless it's absolutely and clearly one of those "you've got to spend money to make money" situations. I believe strongly in labor rights, the strength of labor in a country is very important I believe. I think corporations rights should be minimized and that corporations and major Capitalist business is leading to the destruction of morality, society and our way of life. However, I think moderate solutions are usually best for everyone.

Or the Alternative Party. We could start of as something really fresh and innovative, then get co-opted by corporate soulless suits who dillute the brand and apply it to all sorts of crappy political groups who never understood anything about the original movement.

In reply to John117_MC, #30:

Well, here's the nutshell of my justification: I believe that people do have a certain set of inalienable human rights which need to be protected, and that while an economy is an extremely useful tool for procuring social goods, it is by no means an end in itself. People ought to be allowed as much personal freedom as is practical, though there are certain obligations we owe to each other as members of society that we ought not ignore.

To give a full justification would require several posts, and I'm just not up to that much typing right now.
