Key Grips are important. Movie BARAlright, since no moderators would get back to me on this, I'm just going to start it off.

We, the main posters here in the movie forum have no place to just randomly spew our guts like the oh so rampant bars in the basement, and 18 plus forums do, yet we have seen hilarity only side track the m...

Key signifies that they are the head of the grips department and are in charge of supervising the grips who must angle shadows lights and cameras and some times asked to be the safety monitor

You guys are silly. Key grips have the biggest forearms on set.

Also two posts in two months. That's some lazy-ass non-movie-talk. I've been watching a ton of stuff and will come in here with some observations, some insights, perhaps some quips, in a few days.

Slack-tards.

Edit- Oops. Wrong thread.

Big forearms are important.

Need to watch Tron and True Grit yet.
Does this make me a bad person for not yet having seen them?
Is Jeff Bridges picking his movies alpabetically now?
Will his next project be Try Harder?
To be followed by Tsarsis?

I found this interesting mostly for the look at the top ten films of various studios. That Gone With the Wind is still number one for MGM is somewhat depressing.

Actually, I only see a couple of happy points there, even if it is technically good news for my happy home of sci-fi.

I find it interesting that Empire was the least successful of the Star Wars films.

Actually, the fact that it isn't adjusted for inflation just makes the whole thing much less interesting for me.
This year's Despicable Me? Really... flaws this severe aren't just a slight skew, it pretty much makes the list a novelty of only mild interest.

Despicable did break half a billion worldwide. What was more interesting to me was the older films standing up against the newer, 3D milking, inflation advantaged money magnets.

6 Artists You Didn't Know Made Your Favorite Movie Moments

I'm trying to decide if the people on that list isn't as unknown as the writer believes or if it's sad that I recognized pretty much every name on it.

I couldn't have named them off the top of my head but I definitely knew about them. Except maybe Pangrazio. Saw a documentary on Burtt absolute years ago, worked through a hefty section of Yuen's catalogue with my girlfriend, own some Struzan art and who doesn't know about Stan Winston?

And they list three major film composers but don't even give a nod to Barry? Pretty much guaranteed to be something on this list you liked but didn't know he was involved in.

John Williams and Stan Winston should be fairly well known to everyone.
But I could understand that the average person wouldn't know the names of the rest.

Certainly nothing sad about knowing who they are. Sad that not everyone does.

I'll admit I didn't know who the matte painter was, or the movie poster guy. I've never given a thought to the idea that an actual person paints matte backgrounds, sort of dumb on my part. Movie posters have never had any effect on me, have never enhanced my appreciation of a movie. So for me, the guy who makes movie posters is totally irrelevant.

Who the hell doesn't know John Williams? Hell, people should know John Williams the classical guitarist as well.

As for the list of makeup/effects artists, not having at least an honorable mention for Rick Baker is pretty lame.

IMO Mark Setrakian deserved an honorable mention, too.

Has done a lot of animatronics, VFX, and puppeteering in numerous films.

Remember the dancing alien in Spaceballs? That was his doing.

I just watched the most horrible movie this weekend.
Seraphim Falls.

And it started out strong too... the suckage creeped in slowly.
It started out with one of the James Bonds getting shot and falling off a mountain and he gets all hardcore about survival. Then they start taking small liberties with plausability, which grow into holes of logic. Then they abandon logic. Then they abandon entertainment and just start adding Angelica Huston selling single bullets on salt flats and I think it was supposed to be a surrealistic commentary on war or maybe on clinging to feeling butt-hurt. Just suckage. Pure. Undiluted suckage.

I'm going to have to give this one to the hermaphrodite of hogwarts.
The bounty hunter thing is bad ass, but all she's doing is chasing after her man.
Hermoihan had to turn her back on her personal life and stay on quest.
That's a lot more bad ass, imo.

Now that Samwise Gamgee... he's really impressive.

Well, besides that, in the first two the guy left of his own accord. Han was smuggler-napped. If Ron had been kidnapped instead of running off because he was a whiny bitch, Hermione and Harry would have gone after him too.
