A friend introduced me to this band and I just fell in love with them, but they aren't that well known. They toured with Saosin I believe.
Their sound is pretty unique, and their lyrics are beautiful.
"Dressed to kill you look so right, are you drawn with lust tonight? Your wounds are opening wide, and they might be just my size." Alexisonfire - Sidewalk When She Walks
I've been a fan for a few years. I really like the technical guitar parts and the melodic vocals of Dallas versus the screaming of George. It's a good balance.
My friend's band, Harloe, opened for them last month.
IMO they have gone down hill, but I guess that is because they wanted to be on MTV and make money. their old shit (read: .44 calibur love letter) is pure gold.
If you like alexisonfire you will probably love my friend's band. check them out!!
They didn't care at all about being on MTV. It's just people like you who start to not like a band once they gain some recongition and aren't "underground" anymore. Each CD they have put out is different musically. All it means is they are growing as artists. Has nothing to do with wanting to be on MTV or make more money.
Ya know, i hate the fact that bands get frown upon because of that. (Generally) it's not a bands fault who their fans are.
I think Red Jumpsuit is a good band, the concert of theirs I went to was the most insane one I'd ever been to, the crowd and pits were awefull. Mainly because the entire crowd was made up of 16 and 15 year olds. All the adult fans were far in back. In a way it makes you frustrated with the band but it's just not the bands fault who their fans are.
Other bands like Fallout Boy for example, had a great album with "Take This To Your Grave" but now have completely abandoned that sound with the last two albums. A few catchy songs but its just not the same. A friend (RxQueen) said "Go listen to Arms Race... Then go listen to an old N'Sync album" and she's right. They are in it for the fame (I believe so anyway).
But to a certain extent I do feel bad they get shunned once they get a little famous. Yes, they DO want to make money, is that a crime? Eventually if they are a good band (presumably) they will get airplay, TV spots and so on, why do you have to fault them for not wanting to tour tiny bars in a van with no money their entire careers?
And it seems like every little band van breaks down...doesn't it? Every little band I know is have trouble with their vans. Hell I'd want a bus and money in the bank too...of course I wouldn't sell my proverbial rock n roll soul to get it.
Have some integrity is all I say. Don't water down your image and your sound to TRY to be on MTV. If you get on there for the simple fact that you kick much ass..then kudos to you(a band)
I've loved alexisonfire since I first heard .44 calibre love letter way back in the day. I even saw them live two years ago. They're one of those bands that never get old for me.
Crisis is an unbelievably good cd. This place could be anywhere in the world is amazing... The use of screaming and then melodic vocals is brilliant.....oh and what a voice dallas has!
Canadian people don't get enough sunlight which makes them want to scream, i understand..... Canada does produce good music....except for simple plan... i think they're from Canada...
I love C&C, myself, just nice stuff to relax to, or to play. It's a nice change to hear Dallas' vocals accompanied by an acoustic.
Alexisonfire-wise, I first heard No Transitory when they just released it, I think. Loved it, checked out their other stuff, loved it more. Finally got to see one of their shows last year, and it was awesome. I just love the range, from stuff like .44 Caliber Love Letter to the calmer (well, in comparison) songs such as It Was Fear Of Myself That Made Me Odd.
I've seen them...four times now I guess. The first time I saw them was just before .44 calibre love letter was first starting to get into circulation on MuchMusic. They were on like a C stage at warped tour. There might have been about 40-50 people watching them. They still played a full set and went all out.
I saw black lungs. they were great. they were on tour with Iron Giant, A Textbook Tragedy (a great band, check out Intimidator) and Cancer Bats (check out Smiling Politely or Hail Destroyer)
I also saw alexisonfire last year. i got a signed copy of crisis, caught an additional thrown cd and gave it to a girl (great results) and saw the band sign my friends chest. george used my friends nipple piercing as the O in george.
I heard them for the first time at a music festival, my friend wanted to see them so I tagged along, I knew they were going to be awesome when everyone in the crowd was screaming for them. As soon as they sung I fell in love!
I cannot afford their cd.....its absolute shyte..... It costs like R300 here...... ( ok most cd's cost like R120)....Its the one thing about my country......
