same i couldn't hear it until my third viewing late Saturday night. without it, it just seems like he's lying there trying to contemplate what the hell just happened, the wheeze changed my entire interpretation of that scene's ending.
In regards to Coulson's death. I would just like to say a few things. My initial reaction to it was, "He ain't dead", I think that feeling came from a very fanboyish and immature place because I'm use to death not meaning anything when it comes to comic book properties. And let us bring up a few things about that scene that should indicate he's dead.
A) We see him die. No falling off a cliff, we see in plain view that he gets stabbed through the chest, very close to his heart. Now, Whedon may not have chosen himself that Coulson dies. But he may have decided on the manner... and for some reason he like characters to be impaled to drive the point home. "This wound is mortal, this character will die horribly and they aren't coming back." Whedon doesn't do shit halfway, the reason why we love him. Which brings me to:
B) We see the moment in which his heart stops beating. He trails off mid-sentence, eyes glaze over, and a single tear runs down his face. If he were to be somehow resurrected, this scene would become null and awkward if we know, he's just going to be defibrillated three seconds later. We do see the medical team rush in seconds after he dies and then it pans away. I don't think this is leaving anything open, I think it was because lingering on a dead body would be forcing the point too much, I don't think it's, well the body went off screen for a few seconds just to add a "MAYBE NOT DEAD" window. A retcon like that would not exactly make his death pointless, but flagrantly misleading to the audience. Which brings me to:
C) The cards are his corpse. Fury wanted to show the Avengers, and Whedon wanted to show us, Coulson is a dead in a symbolic way. Bloody trading cards of a self-less fanboy. It hits the Avengers in the heart strings because he believed in superheroes. It hits the audience in the heart because in that scene, we could all see ourselves as Coulson, on a Helicarrier filled with our heroes, stepping up to the villain because it was the right thing to do, no ego involved. It made his death mean more than just some Nick Fury trick to give us an investment in the story. Coulson died doing what he believed was right. There was a cost, he won't see his Cellist again, someone will miss him.
I agree, but that doesn't mean I don't want them to use his brain pattern as the basis behind the Vision's. That I think would at least be doable without taking too much away from his sacrifice
Only one problem the cards weren't on his body. Fury took them out of his locker and said it was on his body, that was stated in the movie, he did it purposely to upset them so they'd be inspired to take matters into their own hands. But I agree with you completely, I think Coulson's dead.
Guys do we have an exact time frame for when we can talk about it without spoilers? Like a month or two?
But he didn't say they were on his body, he said they were his body. Symbolically. Fury may have taken them from the locker rather than from his pocket, but it's no less symbolic.
1. Awesome. The more I see from this movie the more I'm excited about it. I'm sure there are others here who disagree with me, but I don't care. However....
2. Not sure how they can claim it's "this summer's most anticipated film," since it's squeezed between Avengers and DKR. I guess since Avengers has come they don't count it anymore, but I head waaaaaaay more people talking about DKR than ASM.
3. Huh. Don't like how that looks written short. Totally not going to abbreviate Amazing Spider-Man with just letters anymore. Somehow it doesn't work like DKR does.
I'm actually looking forward to it! I really hated the other Spidey movies, but I'm feeling good about this one. I like all the actors a LOT more, so that helps. And the preview makes me interested.

Avengers came out in Spring; Summer doesn't start until the end of June. I guess they're saying they have more buzz than DKR.
They'll say whatever they want to sell tickets. Like how Amazing Spider-man is the "untold story" even though EVERYONE knows how Spider-man got his powers and became a superhero.
From what I can tell about the Amazing Spidey, actually, they seem like they're going to either do the origin SUPER FAST or just not bother with it. Nothing in the preview indicates they're doing the origin story again, it seems like he's already Spider-Man.
That's the sense I'm getting too, like he's past the whole learning the powers bit, but he's obviously still pretty fresh, since its clear from the previews that there are people who don't know who Spiderman is yet.
It's not certain that she does. None of the clips we saw show her talking with Peter in his suit; he may be wanted for something else. It's certainly implied that she knows, and it's easily the simplest explanation, but based on what we've seen so far I don't think it's confirmed yet.
