It's weird because I usually like Movie Bob. He did that fantastic commentary on the whole sexist drama that happened a few weeks ago. And his current Batman stuff is interesting. But the weird thing is this comes off as a super silly fanboy outrage thing, and this is coming from the guy who did a video telling Mass Effect fans to stop being whiny crybabies over not liking the end of the game. He said that he'd rather people take risks and try things than not, and you take the risk of not liking whatever you buy, but this video basically contradicts that mentality a lot. Soooo. Weird.
I guess I can understand it from a "I hope this sucks so Marvel gets Spidey back, so I'll say whatever it takes in this review for that to happen" kind of perspective.
But I'll probably see the movie tonight or tomorrow night.
This is the example I mean. Watching that and then watching the Amazing Spider-Man response is like ... what? They don't match up in my head at all. Which is a shame because like I said I've liked a few of his things.
I find that I like The Big Picture, but I usually strongly disagree with his reviews. I once literally called him out on his habit of liking some movies for one thing, then hating other movies for exactly the same thing. He never responded.
YES. Exactly. I like some of his stuff a lot. His looking back at the Batman movies right now is kind of interesting and his Avengers stuff was all interesting. The thing is he's trying to sell himself as a real film/geek critic, as in well researched and thought out things, but you can't say THAT and then have fandom ranting at the same time. Hm.
For example he's the guy who did this and this. And you can imagine that I'd have warm fuzzy feelings for the person who did those. Eh, sometimes people disagree. Unfortunate.
Saw the midnight screening. Got the Cinemark Amazing Spiderman T-shirt (first fifty!)
Will give a better review when I'm not typing with my thumbs, but I greatly enjoyed it, Garfield nailed the part, and Emma Stone is hot. If one thing bothered me it would be one scene where Peter's creativity in his tools is undermined by random. Namely, since when is Lizard the goddamn pied piper of Hamelin?!
It feels like it might've been a little fanrage, honestly. Which happens sometimes but if you want to be a professional, you have to learn to go past that. I had to f'n review Twilight for work. Did I just want to rant and rant about that book and call it the worst thing known to man? Yes. And I have personally in my journal, lol. But for my job I tried to give a balanced review of it. Which was hard, honestly.
While I am appalled with the fact they are going to redo Highlander.. not all of my faith is lost in Hollywood since there are a few directors who will push "original" material. Albiet it seems we are in the decade of redux.
However... this one I must say I am rather interested to see...
The most exciting thing in there was that Edgar Wright may have shot some test footage for Ant-Man that will pop up at SDCC. That would be a good step.
