I know its hard to comprehend but it could be true.... A friend of mine who is part of the sketch comedy group Loading Ready Run, who has through the years made many many videos poking fun at Uwe Boll and the horrible films he produces recently ran into the man himself while at a Starbucks and managed to score an interview with him. What comes next is something that no one could of ever expected, a highly intelligent and laid back conversation about what Uwe really feels about the film industry shedding the persona we all know him as and talk about his movies and why they fail so hard.
Granted this hasn't made me want to run out and go see Postal but it has made me respect the man a whole lot more than before and a lot of what he says does ring true. Not that I agree with everything he says but it is interesting.
I still do think that with the right movie, Boll can make something really good. I always have thought that but with the way he has gone so far, he hasn't hit anything really solid yet and its really hard for me to randomly go see yet another one of his movies (Especially with the rising theater ticket prices) without tons of people telling me that Boll has managed to come up with something that finally works. But from what he said, it doesn't matter if we see it in theaters. He makes everything off the DVD sales and TV viewings so I don't feel too bad about not going to see it.
Wondering what everyone else's opinions are here of this video showing a very different side to Boll is....
and... he's nice as hell in person, and you can tell just by talking to him that he loves film making, and he tries his hardest to make good films. (which makes the fact his films are awful that much sadder)
I respect the man, to a degree. he's pompous, and arrogant, and can be a humongous asshole to critics. but, he is nice to "fans", and again, just by talking to him you can feel how much he loves cinema. I respect him a lot more then directors that don't care about film making, and are just doing it ot make a buck.
still think most of his films are awful to nigh unbearable. Although I will say, Postal had a few funny moments. (caught a free screening in Toronto a few months back.)
if you really hate Boll, leave him the fuck alone. all this shit disturbing, and rabble rousing, and making him out to be the devil, all it does it make him more popular. it makes him more well known, and it makes him notorious. also, internet petitions never, EVER do anything. and yes, so many people bash him without seeing his films.
Uwe Boll needs to stop working with video games that dont really have a good story in the first place. Sometimes i want to hate him for the crap i watch but when i see interviews like this i kind of feel for the guy.
To the idea that Uwe Boll is intelligent. He's either a delusional moron, or an agent of the dark lord sent to torture us all.
I prefer to believe the former. After seeing a number of his movies, nothing he ever say or do (short of leaving the film industry forever) could ever convince me of otherwise.
I would, but I don't have enough respect for the man to devote several minutes of my time to watch him try to explain himself. From my perspective, what he has done, for any reason, cannot be justified. This may seem very narrow minded, but I've seen people like him try to explain themselves in the past. They seem to inhabit some sort of dream world, where the laws of any society have no meaning.
He doesn't try to explain himself, though; it's just an interview about film. It amazes me how the internet is incensed by how Boll may actually not be a douchebag in real life.
He may be the nicest, most intelligent being to ever inhabit our fair planet. However, he cannot make movies. Until he realizes that, every game franchise he diminishes, every dollar he throws away, and every man hour he wastes will be an exercise in "douchebaggery", as you say.
You say that like he has damaged any video game franchise.... Alone in the Dark damaged the franchise as much as Mortal Kombat Annihilation damaged that one... There are PLENTY of other horrible video game movies out there that are not made by Boll.
He is by no means the only person who makes bad video game movies. My point is just that he should stop. The fact that other people make bad movies doesn't exactly mean that he should do the same. Although I will say that his ability to violate the tenets of capitalism by creating a product that does not sell and for which there is little to no demand is amazing.
