Its official. The worst kept secret in video game history has finally been announced. Star Wars: The Old Republic is an MMO set 300 years after KOTOR II. I know most of you have been wanting the Revan story continue, and so do I, but this is a great opportunity for a great Star Wars MMO. So, who will you side with. The Jedi, or the Sith?

Here is the link to the announcement, a video, and a few pictures. I didn't put it up here because it would have just taken up to much space. Enjoy.

Just to remind you though, its an MMO, but the information from the link makes it look like the greatest game ever, especially since he has great factors to make it the best game ever. EA: Money, Lucasarts: Star Wars, Bioware: Gameplay, Story, Fun, and everything else about a great game.

I wonder what they mean by story driven game play? At any rate I'm very excited about it because it has actually come to pass. I never really thought it would. It's always been just a fanboys' fantasy for years. BUT HERE IT IS!!! Fucking exciting!!!

Well,I'm kinda split right now.I mean,it sounds awsome,but,personaly,K3 should be made also.
BUT on Biowares website,it STILL says a Next Gen Game is in development,so maybe there is still.....hope for a K3 to be made.

I really dislike the idea of sharing my in-game maps with dozens of other generic characters also told that they are the chosen one, despite me being told that a few minutes ago. As well as having to wait for an enemy to respawn because one of them fuckers just killed it. Having to pay for such a 'privelage' too. (guild wars ftw)

But fuck it, i'll b buying it someday, PC games are cheap and MMOs come with a free month trial, so you better be able to finish the damn story in less than 50 hours.

Its a mmo, 50 hours of play might be enough to get you to the level cap and a little bit farther, not nearly long enough to see the entire thing. That said, i will wait for more races/classes to be revealed before I go picking jedi/sith.

Well my only main hopes for this game at this very moment:

I hope it doesn't fail as badly as SWG.

But personally, if I get this game... I'll probably try to have a character for both sides of the force, but I'll probably stick to the Jedi since combat doesn't interest me as much as the next Jedi / Sith.

I'm so torn over this game. I like many of you wanted Kotor 3 as an RPG and foolishly i will hope that still happens someday. but being the geek that i am i am going to give this a shot. SITH FTW!!

I think that all MMOs are good enough for pcs. I find it weird playing an MMO on a console.

I think it would be cool for it to be on the console and the pc.

I agree with you on some aspects, considering that if it were on console, it would probably be a lot smoother game play, but if it were on console, it would have its own flaws. Now having an xbox, I'm going to use that as an example along with the game Oblivion.

Now with Oblivion, it was fully compatable with the Xbox and the PC because it had limited controls. Forward and backwards, straffing, sneaking, ducking, attacking, etc. They all used one control. IE: Shoot a fireball would be x button while putting up a shield with y button and attacking with z button.

However, in large MMORPGs, such as say World of Warcraft or Star Wars Galaxies, it would often require you to switch skills almost instantly, such as using buffs and then attacking. In Oblivion, you would have to actually go into your journal and find the skill, then keep switching, while as in WoW or SWG, you have a skill bar where you can preset skills to be used.

That's not to say setting up a skill bar is impossible for Xbox games... actually it's quite possible, but I imagine it would be difficult to preset buttons while also trying to fight... unless it was a turn-based combat game.

And aside from these aspects, the Xbox can get the red ring of death, and with all consoles, the hardware can go out of date, while as with a PC you can keep upgrading it with new components to make the game faster and more fun.

All in all, I think it would be cool to have the game on console and PC as well... but unless this game turns out to be turn based, I don't see that happening.

Although it would be nice to stick with the turn-based combat we got with Kotor and Kotor II.

So long as it turns out better than SWG, I'll be happy.

And besides, they're the same people who made Kotor 1 and 2... so they must have some ideas as to how they're going to make this game good. I mean... Star Wars Galaxies (I think) didn't know jack about this stuff and just winged it... but these guys know what they're doing.

Although, I'm not going to get excited for this game... because I got excited for Force Unleashed and was let down like crazy.

None the less: Star wars MMORPG about Jedi vs. Sith + Star Wars fan = anticipation

Everything they've said so far, about making great stories in MMOs possible, making the characters feel important, making a story as epic as it can be in the other KotORs, sure maybe they can do that......but why make it into an MMO?

Anywayz, enough of the MMO bashing. I still have hope for a KotOR3 dealing with Revan and the gang. The MMO is set 300 years after anyway.

I think if that there will ever be a next kotor it wont have Revan because new players that never played the first one will not understand the story.

You're probably right.

Though my response would be ,'fuck the fuckers, if they want to understand a SEQUEL they should play the first game or at the very least research the story.

Not like Halo 3 gave new players a big 'story so far...' moment

You have to choose between being sith and jedi at character creation with no possibility to change alignments? Woulda been cool if what faction you were in depended on your actions.

Alignment =/= Faction.

Can be a good Sith or an evil Jedi.

Still just tired of timesink gameplay though or else I'd be excited about this....

I have no need for 'timesink' games which is the main reason i'd prefer a KotOR3 which allows me to finish a single playthrough in 50 hours.

Good Sith? Bad Jedi? Eh?
