A movie I am really looking forward to seeing, and not just as a long time fan of pro wrestling, The Wrestler follows a former top wrestling star, Randy 'The Ram' Robinson (Mickey Rourke) trying to work the independent circuit physically and financially broke. Although this story is fictional, it does hit alot of true notes about the pro wrestling world, where many former top stars from the 80's are still wrestling after blowing through the money they made, and are stuck working in high school gyms to make ends meet, and their bodies are broken down. The movie has received Golden Globe nominations, and Rourke really could get an Oscar nod for this work. Even just from the trailers, it's stunning how Rourke fits the part so well. Hard to imagine what we would have gotten from this movie if Nicholas Cage had gotten the part, as was the early rumor about this film.
