Disclaimer: This thread is intended for The Host only. Twilight discussion is to be kept in the Twilight threads, please (there's more than enough of them)
Just finished up The Host and I'm interested in people's take on it. Their opinions on the parasites, the justifying of their (parasites and humans) actions, what outcome is reasonable, etc, etc.
I expect through discussions on the book as a whole, so spoilers shall be many. If you haven't read or finished up the book, you have been warned.
I found the whole dynamic between Melanie and the Wanderer interesting. They were both on opposite ends of the spectrum. Yet when they seperated at the end they took a piece of each other with them. What your opinion on the matter?
I've never been a big fan of the body snatchers concept. That being said I loved this and i would have to agree with you, I think being forced to co-habitat gave them a better understanding of each other. Especially when it came to the wanderers understanding of humans and emotion. So when they reached the point where they separated they took with them an understanding that only that experience could allow them to have. I may have been introduced to Stephanie Meyers through the success of Twilight but The Host showed me that she was an author that could definitely become a favorite.
I agree with you completely. I feel she really developed this story well. I really hope we get to see her work more like this. The Host I found to be quite deep. It makes you question things about the choices you make. And how people react to all kinds of change. Also it shows what humanity is willing to do to survive.
I really liked how she portrayed the characters as having to share the same thoughts in the same space...but I didnt like Wanda. Listening to her thoughts and emotions got very old, very fast for me.
I read the first chapter in my local book store and was immediately turned off. The three word sentences, the obvious use of a thesaurus, it all rings the same bell as her other work. From what I read she has defiantly improved her character creation though.
i will admit that you need to give it a few chapters to really pass judgment. Stephanie Meyer is well known for bringing in actual plot about 300 pages into her books, and it is still true in this book. You are correct in the vocab section, she is just trying to impress her readers by showing she can pass the English section of her SATs... BUT this is a very good book by Stephanie Meyer and I suggest you give this book (the only one with real potential) another chance
