As some of you already know, the GrifballHub staff have won the election to be Head of Events. Yes, a group of people won a single committee seat (hopefully this will be a good thing). And you may ask yourself how is one considered part of a staff for a website that is community run. Well, we’re a small group of friends that founded and help produce content but we’re still a community driven website. So that means that our term as Head of Events will be very much community driven. And that means we’re going to take every comment or idea seriously, of course they would need to be constructive. How well you enjoy our events is entirely up to you. We will hold up our end of the bargain and make sure to run the events to the best of our abilities. But if there’s something you don’t like or want , you’ll have to let us know. Now, for the most part I will be the face as Head of Events for the Hub but trust me that I usually won’t do anything without talking about it with my cohorts. With that, please feel free to send me a message with suggestions, complaints, or anything else that may come to mind.
Now here are a few ideas that we’ve already got cooking to get out to you.
Weekly Grif Rushes, on different days and times to accommodate people’s schedules. -These rushes will primarily be straight grifball on either the Sandbox or Foundry courts, although occasional variations may occur.
Weekly Game Nights, on different days and times to accommodate people’s schedules. -Now these will be where some new and different rushes will take place. -Grifball variations including Aerial, Naught, Classic, and others will definitely make appearances. -But we’ll also get in different games that may stray away from the Halo brand.
All Star Week -We may be trying things different with the All Stars. -Each Pro team will nominate two players to be voted upon to make it to the All Star team. (Amateur have yet to be decided how to proceed.) -During the week before the game is played, we will have a nightly rush that will be skill based. This will probably be opened to everyone to play.
Again, please let us know what you think and we really hope you guys enjoy playing in our events.
First off, I (along with others) think that we should change "Grif Rush" to something completely different.
On the event side;
We've had a suggestion from the Amateur Rules thread, that we could institute a Grifball NIT at the end of the regular season. That could potentially be awesome.
It's something I've always thought of, but with a lack of a website to handle that we would need to do everything manually. Unless you could point me to a site we could use, that would be great.
Could you go into more detail about the All Star Week? I dont think i fully understand it. You're changing All Star game to All Star Week? What about Amateur as well? Any predictions or possibilities you might be doing for Amateur?
Well, as far as the All Star game they will be given a weekend to schedule the game (Friday-Sunday). That goes for both Pro and Amateur.
As for the All Star Week, Monday through Thursday will each have a rush that is open to everyone (not just All Stars). Each of those rushes will detail a certain skill set, much like the grand slam or three point contest.
The only problem we're running into is how to do nominations for the Amateurs. Obviously it would be quite difficult to sort through everyone if it were set like Pro.
You should accept nominations from Ammy captains, telling them to each nominate a runner, and three "other" players. They cannot nominate players on their own team. Then all the players that have been nominated are put to a public vote, forming two teams of two runners and six other players: odd/even, hammer/sword, or whatever.
And we need a BTB night. 8v8 Flag or Bomb on Valhalla or Avalanche.
To be honest, people can play grifball pretty much any time, I'd rather have the community events feature other things besides just grifball. I'd really like to see a variety of games like Conquest, Racing Games and such if we do anything halo related.
Don't worry, we're definitely getting Castle Crashers in. (Now just to go back and level up some of my guys.)
We will still have a weekly grifball tournament, no matter what. But we will also have on another night that week a Game Night which will be mostly outside grifball although we may have one or two those be grifball in case there's demand for it.
When? Monday, September 7th Where? A sign-up thread will be opened on the tournament’s own forum at 4:00 PST/6:00 CST/7:00 EST. Sign-ups will close after 30 minutes or when we reach 32 teams, whichever comes first. Who? Rosters may contain up to 6 players, and can change at any time up until the first game. Players may be added afterwards if given permission by an available Hub Staff member, preferably the one running the event. What? A single elimination tournament of Grifball (Gametype) on SML09 Foundry (Map).
Anyone found to be breaking the Number 1 Rule of Grifball (Don’t be a douche) will be banned from this event.
Teams situated on top of the pairing are preferred to be the ones to invite the other team. Any team not using the proper Gametype or Map will be disqualified.
Games are to be played no later than 15 minutes after the next opponent is decided. Any team delaying this will be disqualified.
All results should be posted in the following format in the thread that will be opened after the bracket is up:
Team PAX over Team RvBTO 6-3 (B.net link)
Teams should sign-up in the following format:
Team Name: Team PAX Team Captain: Moocow Player: Highland Player: Menz Player: Goose Alternate: Leo Alternate: Some other bk
Any other questions, feel free to ask. Hope everyone has fun!
I noticed a few neg mods in this thread, whereas I don't really mind them I would like to know why especially if it's something we can change to make these events more enjoyable. I can't read minds people.
Also if you can't make the Monday event, we're also holding another one later in the week to remind everyone to register.
A war game for a holiday in memorial of workers being killed by US military during one of most important strikes in history?
History lesson time: Labor Day was a Canadian holiday since 1872, peacefully celebrating the Trade Union Act. It was celebrated in New York since 1882 and was starting to spread to other states. 12 years later the Pullman Strike resulted in deaths of striking workers so legislation making Labor Day a national holiday was rushed through Congress to appease labor leaders and prevent further tension - it would have eventually been passed in later years anyway
So, like, what am i getting at? it's interesting how we both have Labor Day, to us it is a celebration, and to you the same event is a memorial. i guess it is like the inverse of Christmas, which started as a memorial and turned into a celebration.
and... don't get me started on Hot Cross Buns. Hint: don't eat them, they're penises!!!
