This is a thread for ABC's new show V, the remake of the sci-fi classic mini-series and TV show named the same. An alien race comes to Earth with promises of curing illnesses and endless peace, but what is their real agenda? Please come here and discuss!

You know, since this and Flash Forward were both coming new to ABC as possible Lost-replacements in the sci-fi genre, I really thought FF would win me over the most. But I found V much more appealing, at least in the character sense. Right off the gate I really liked Erica, Elizabeth Mitchell's character, and Tudyk as always was charming. I think Baccarin was calm and a little creepy as Anna.

I've heard some complaints that they jumped over a lot of stuff to get right into it, and I kind of agree. I almost wanted a few episodes building up the suspense and THEN being like THE VISITORS ARE EVIL. But I guess they have an idea of where they want to go from here.

since SyFy had been doing a V marathon for the past 3 days, and recalling the 80's series when it originally aired, I was looking forward to this remake.

spoiler filled

I really enjoyed the pilot, and i like the fact that the episode moved as quickly as it did. Events in their world didnt happen that fast ofcourse, I think the pilot spanned approx 3 weeks, and in that time, we see the spaceships, hear what they want to give us and what they want in return(water and a mineral....wonder which one? carbon maybe?), and see the masses of people joining and buying into it. That is followed by the running investigation Juliet was doing (yes, she is still Juliet...it will be a few more episodes before I call her Erica Evans) into a sleeper cell was actually the V's who had been on the planet for awhile setting up the invasion, and that is followed by the revelation that there are V who are traitors?!?!?

I liked it a lot, and I look forward to where this show goes!!

3 Hours Later on the West Coast:

Just finished watching it. Awesome. Very well done, except a few of the CG ships. And in response to some comments in the other thread, yes, Alan Tudyk is only short term. In the credits he's only a guest star.

Scary thing is, I know a guy named Chad Decker, and the show is filmed here in Vancouver. I recognized a bunch of the locations.

Good Vs, Evil Vs. I like it. Now you REALLY don't know who to trust, even if you know they're a V!

How long until Decker sleeps with Anna
A) Episode 2
B) <= 5 episodes
C) <= 10 episodes
D) Late Season 1
E) >= Season 2
F) He ain't never gettin' none a dat.

You bring up a good point, Erok. I noticed that they never said what mineral, and thought that rather odd. Carbon would make sense, since they claimed we have a lot of it. But why? Carbon based weapons?

And quick poll:

I was thinking ... after seeing the blond Visitor making out with her son ... do you think they might be interested in experimenting with human hybrids? I mean they could just be naturally looking to control the humans through sex, which works too, but I was curious about that. Anna was totally looking at Decker like she planned on eating him. In all possible ways.

Okay does anyone else think Scott Wolf looks a little like Jaime Bamber in this role? Maybe it's the hair, the Apollo-as-a-lawyer hair....

I'm kinda 'meh' about V... I thought even for a remake it was too formulaic and not very engaging... I was much more engaged with FlashForward and the very beginning of V struck me a bit of a take on FF's "What did you see?"

Also, with FF, I have no idea what's going on though I have a few ideas... with V, even without seeing the original I pretty much know exactly what's going on and just wondering how they will make it different?

But what can I say, I love LOST, so I'm a glutton for that kind of punishment, so FF attracts me more than V. So I think because ABC is losing lost, they want to keep their audience, so V could be used to keep the ones more into the SciFi element, and FF could be to keep the ones into the WTF? WJH? element.

In V's defence, I will give it that it is the pilot, and there such a thing as "pilot syndrome" so I am going to give it a shot, see where it goes. They had a lot of a nice touches, I like how they made it modern, how they fit it into our current world view which is much different from the 80s. So it's potential is pretty high.

I'll keep watching it, see where it goes..... and because apparently there will be more Alan Tudyk and I'd watch him watching paint dry...

Unfortunately ... Tudyk will only be around til like episode 3 I think. He's a guest star.

Oh I voted episode two EagleMan because I thought since they were going fast on the show, he'd be in her bed quicker.

Well, at least they know they will keep this viewer around that long...

Thank goodness though that I have a DVR... I don't think I could give up NCIS for V...

I think it's pretty gutsy of ABC to put it up against such a powerhouse show... so they either think they highly of it, or they are attempting to kill it...

If they wanted to kill it they'd put it on Friday. I think they figure people who like NCIS might not be the main audience for V. Plus they don't have any other shows, and V is going to run on a special schedule. Only four episodes of V will be airing now, and then they have the rest of the season next year.

Which is still insane to me. So maybe they are attempting to kill it. damn.

We don't know that yet. They could start filming now after they see how this pilot did and then we'll have more episodes than just those 5.

I don't know... I know a lot of scifi fans who love NCIS... my family included... and we're a "going to scifi conventions and dressing up" type of scifi fan... so we're not lightweights...

not to say that scifi fans can't migrate... but we're talking a show that often is number one watched show for the entire week... not just top show in it's time slot...

not saying it was the worse idea to put it there, but it may not have been the brightest...

1) I think you could be right with the NCIS crowd. I, for one, can't follow NCIS. It's like the ADD version of Criminal Minds or CSI. However, I loved V. Even though their moving fast, I thought it was still great.

And sure, JayCee, you know what's going on NOW, but what about soon? And I bet you didn't know that they were reptiles, or evil, or had traitors until the end. I don't think that it's supposed to be a puzzler, but a Sci-Fi action series like Stargate, Farscape, or Andromeda.

2) Chipper, it's not that unusual to show only 4 episodes of something at this time of year. It's a mid-season replacement (for Hell's Kitchen), and very soon (4 weeks) it will be the Christmas season, and everything will be preempted and shuffled around. That's also the main reason that 24 never starts until mid-January, when everything has settled down again. So they show 4 episodes to gauge interest, then they have the winter shuffle, at which time they can order more episodes and offer the time to film them. Come January when the specials are done, they show the rest. They're not trying to kill it, that's just the way mid-season replacements work.

I don't think I have a problem with knowing what's going on. Sure I love Lost to death and the mysteries keep me going, but sometimes I enjoy a show that upfront tells me what it is about with a few twists here and there. I guess that's the beauty of being a television viewer; you can find a little of everything for yourself.

It's a discussion about tactics. NCIS is constantly rated above CSI and Criminal Minds and often tops 20 mil viewers, most other top rated shows tap around 15 to 16... at most hope for 18... even Football doesn't get 20 unless something like the Superbowl.

Now, I am not saying that to not like it means anything, we all like different shows... I'm just trying to figure out why ABC desided to combat V against the number one show for the entire week. If you're trying to get all the sci fi fans, then why not go against something lower rated and sure not to draw many of the sci fi fans, like, say, The Good Wife?

I guess putting anything against it would make one question, regardless if it's niche' scifi show or a competeing detective show. So do they have that much faith or are they attempting to kill it? As a Firefly fan... I am wary of networks trying to kill shows on purpse..

And as for your comment about not knowing what was going on?
Well... even without having watched V, I knew that they were evil just from the ad alone, it kinda gave it away when they kept showing the scene at the interview...
the reptiles, well, write ups for the show commented on it, people I know who had seen the original commented on it, and I'm pretty sure I saw something about it in an ad for when the original was rerunning on the SciFi Channel awhile back... so it wasn't a big secret...
and the traitors, I give ya, I honestly didn't know about them, but not like that is an big or original twist, and it was given away in the first episode so completely ruins the prospect of any suspense later on, i mean, they could have drug out Alan being one of them for a whole season and then bam, talk about a dun dun dun moment... this was just... oh... okay... that explains it...

So.. yeah... I think you insulted my intellegence and perhaps that of most of the viewers...

I am not a big fan of NCIS....its just another crime drama, which I used ot love, but I have seen so many they all just blur together now. I will admit to putting reruns of NCIS on and using it for enjoyable background, but I dont keep up w/ it.

V is a welcome replacement for w/e I used to watch on Tuesdays that doesnt come on anymore.

Anyone w/ half a pop culture mind had some inkling of who/what/when/where/why so I doubt huge suspenseful twist will be a big issue. I am looking forward more to a guerrilla/espionage movie w/ soap opera level betrayals and resurrections. Comic book physics mixed w/ psuedo-cannibalism, all wrapped up nicely in a cute little package of sex and pheromones.

I expect a hybrid child will come about, most likely in a small town religious girl. I expect a biological weapon against the V. I expect reference to the Holocaust.

I liked the show and I look forward to where it is going. I did think it moved a little fast though. I would like to have had a couple of episodes lulling me in to how good the V's were going to be for humanity.

I just watched the pilot again. I think it seeded plenty of subplots for a good, hopefully, powerful first season. We shall see.

One request from y'all. My dvr went a bit weird at the very end (58:14 to be exact) and about 2 minutes got skipped (58:14 to 1:00:46). It cut out after the devotion speech, after the "Welcome to the Ambassadors of Peace" toast, during the pan back from Anna looking out the Mothership's window. I assume that is panned back, and faded to black, followed by a "next week on" short. Can anyone confirm this assumption? If it is wrong, can you tell me what I missed?

They talked to him as he was leaving the ship. I think that might have been at the end. They told him they wanted to use him again in the future when Anna had something to say.

Yeah and then she just smiled and it ended. Then showed what is coming up next week.

A lot of people were saying they thought this was a swipe at Obama. Because of the Obama worship and the universal health care. It used to be an allegory for the Nazis. The writers all deny any intention to comment on anything political. Thoughts, without getting offensive? I usually wouldn't ask but I honestly didn't see any of that.

ofcourse someone could make the correlations. People see what they want to see.

as far as universal health care goes, I would love for any group to come along and offer it. I would definitely take advantage of that, and still be cynical about the providers of it!

I could see the connection to Obama and some of the crazies out there that really see him in such a light and it also works for the Nazis as well.

It really works for any fanatical situation over a group or individual.

I really liked it. I wasn't expecting to, but I did. I was a little surprised that so much was covered in the first episode, but I think that's a good thing, as I'm more interested because of it.
