Hey all, so I'm sure you've seen the Rooster Teeth app for the I-phone right? Yeah I thought it looked pretty sweet to, unfortunately I have a captivate which runs android, so I can't use this app. I know I'm not the only one who has an android based device, that'd like to see a Rooster Teeth app. So lets try and do something about it. My bet is that some of you are pretty heavy coders and could make some cool stuff on the android sdk. Lets show some interest in this, get a few app developing gurus together, get support from RT (which we would obviously have to have), and make this happen. Wouldn't it be great to see a comparable app on the android marketplace?
An Android app would be nice, and I can understand why people want it. But it becomes a more difficult task when developing for Android, people don't realize that the developer has to take into consideration all of the different devices that the app will eventually be run on. I'm guessing the reason Rooster Teeth picked the iPhone is because of the lack of variety in its devices makes it much easier then Android to develop for (that and their love of all things Apple).
Various different devices yes. Though they typically all run similar hardware (same res screens, same speed processors etc). If anything its really no different to writing for the iphone because android has basically two variants, small res with an old iteration of android or 3.7-4.3" screens running android 2.2+. Which typically most peple are using now.In reply to CRAZYPENUT, #6:
Not to rain on anybody's parade, but don't expect this any time soon. Android development is riddled with problems at the moment, the most major of which is the ridiculous number of devices it has been ported to, each with their own varying amounts of available memory and processing power (not to mention different displays with different resolutions). Given that a lot of applications rely on heavy optimization in order to provide a consistent user experience across multiple devices, I just don't see it being worth it to them to try and get it up and running on Android (let alone deal with the inevitable deluge of emails about how some little feature doesn't work right).
The sad thing is, it would've been cool to see some competition to Apple's empire. Unfortunately, WinPhone7 seems to be staggering drunkenly down the same road.
seriosuly... take into consideration how many droids are out there?
no. Im running sweeter home 2 beta on my droid x and sweeter home runs on close to ALL the droids. so i humbly disagree with that statement. its been an excuse from day 1. even on the droid forums they have been stating that its hard to make it for all the droids... no. its not. the android market either has apps optimized for all or some just glich and get bugged out. which then the developers can fix. thats what updates are for. instead. we droid users are stuck with apps that never update. because developers dont want to have to deal with all the droids. what makes it worse is that most of the droid owners are very picky when it comes to buying apps as well. a developer who just sits on his ass and reworks the ui and everything else and bring in constant updates tohelp better the experience for all is hard to come by because the droid users rate 1 star and then cus the guy out. yet in his description he states he will be working on updating his stuff so that it will work and run smoothly. even going so far as to say PLEASE EMAIL ME SO I CAN FIND OUT WHAT THE DAMN PROBLEM IS SO I CAN FIX IT AND I CAN GET PAID FOR MY HARD WORK THAT I PUT IN SO YOU CAN CHECK OR DO WHATEVER IT IS YOUR DOING SO YOU CAN GET ON WITH YOUR LIFE!
but no it doesnt work that way.
so the excuse about too many droids... is just an excuse.
the core problem comes from the users who bash on the developers and the developers who arent willing to put in an honest few hours of grinding and working on their app to better it for all. instead they think its perfect and when complaint come in they freak out and just leave it as well its not optimized for that.
hell even on some of the apps im seeing now im my droid they are warning that some droids are having major issues and the developers are.... WORKING TO FIX THAT. If all devs were like that the android market would be up there truly competing with the apple store. instead we have diamonds in the rough. those are the true bad asses of the android market thats a hard working developer who is so badass he will tell you. if your on such and such dont download im working on getting it fixed for your droid so chill out and ill get you in an update thats coming up. and if there are bugs let me know about them and what you are experiencing cus then ill be able to work on fixing that.
woah... i think i just went off on a rant there...
The devices wouldn't matter much, just the versions of Android. I believe there are 3 versions that are majorly used currently, and developing for Android is much easier than for iOS. Considering that it already exists for iOS, it can't be too hard to convert it into an Android app.
Great idea, would be nice if could be implemented.
