Honestly I thought the same thing. Hearing Twilight, Fluttershy and Spike say "Cerberus" and later Twilight saying "Caillbrate" made my mind jump to Mass Effect.

In the wise words of Captain Janeway "The past is the future, The future is the past... It all gives me a headache."

I hate time travel episodes, it's rough enough for good sci-fi to pull it off, in this case, this recent episode is almost un-watchable to me.

Yes, a cartoon about candy-colored ponies is unwatchable because the concept of time travel is hard to integrate and make believable.

Makes perfect sense.

In reply to discussion about time:

Okay, Shadow just quoted Janeway, so, in the words of Diana Troi:

"Timeline??? This is no time, to argue, about time. We don't, have, the time!"

I warned you people not to think about it too deeply. Just...just ignore all the timeline crap.

That's why it's called a paradox. This is like time travel storytelling 101, man.

In reply to Freelancer05, #37932:

There is no 'first' Twilight.

There's only ever been one Twilight.

Essentially the universe self-consistently computes in one sweep using information that hasn't happened yet.

In essence, free will is a lie and everything is pre-determined.

It's a mix of the Predestination paradox (used in Season 3 of RvB) and the Bootstrap paradox (used in the videogame Timesplitters.)

I'm sorry, but my suspension of disbelieve had been broken when they started involving temporal mechanics into the mix of cartoon ponies.

In reply to Lorcan0c, #37934:

I have a distaste for Doctor Who actually, it's WAY too Campy for my taste.

Look, if you guys want to argue about something, why not start somewhere that's not the basic premise for like half the time travel stories ever told (that something done by the time traveler causes the need for the time travel in the first place). How about the fact that the time spell can only be used once? I mean, I know it's magic and doesn't necessarily have rules, but come on, that's the most contrived thing I've ever heard.

In reply to datalaughing, #37949:

I know right?! Technically in that time frame Twilight hadn't cast the spell herself yet, so the spell would still work and hence it would create a temporal loop until something happened to break it.
