I'm not telling you to GTFO. I'm telling you to not be suck a dick towards someone who is obviously putting a lot of time and effort into developing something that is used by literally millions (and a bit)of people around the world, all who have different opinions on ow they think this site should be run
Yes, you did tell me to GTFO.
And trust me, I'm not being a dick. I'm merely expressing myself with a bit of emotional restraint. Ben and I have had many direct discussions about how I feel and I was 'less than cordial' at times. We're OK with it. And as far as 'literally millions' go that regularly use the site, you are incorrect. The 'Top 100 Most Modded Users' account for 30% of the posting activity. Here's an excerpt of the study I did.
"I took the top and bottom 5 users of the 100 Most Modded and tabulated 7 days of posting (typically 6th - 12th). I came up with a total of 1221 posts for those 10 users which extrapolates to 12210 posts for the 100 Most Modded users. Based on the week's post count of 38,501-39,499 this gives us the top 100 users accounting for 30.9% - 31.7%"
I do my research and my homework and I do them rather extensively. RT chose to ignore the core group of users and went with what they individually wanted out of their site instead of giving the majority of the user base what they wanted.
I have been following the posts on here and reading them on other discussions to see peoples problems. The majority of the poeple posting dont like it but I do not see 600,000 people commenting about not liking it. Just because 100 people make the top posts mean nothing
I posted a chart indicating the Community's take on the new layout (the one we didn't get) and it was not favorable.
I did a study on the number of users that actually use the site, and 100 of the users make up for 30% of the Forum use.
Would you ignore that strong of a user base and simply go your own way thereby alienating your heaviest users and most ardent fans, the fans that have such a strong following that they make the Top 100 on a regular basis?
LOL So that's what you're pissed off about? That they asked you what you wanted and then didn't do everything that people said they wanted on the site? If you don't like it... maybe go make your own flipping site? That's the stupidest reason to be mad at the guys at RT I have heard. They could have just as well updated and never asked people what they did/didn't want. But they tried, oh but you keep going on and bitching about them making the site that you use regularly. Very productive. Well done.
Are you telling me that anyone actually asked for this failed abortion of a layout? We should find the people that requested these changes and beat them with sticks until they leave.
Seriously, this new site sacrificed functionality for... nothing, they just got rid of functionality and didn't replace it with anything that makes any amount of sense.
Wikia's issue is that any site should be designed with the users in mind. It's a fucking product, like anything else. You design it for people, not in spite of them.

I completely agree, and obviously these are new changes that are being tried out. My point is, don't be complete dick holes to the people running the site, which you both are fucking using, It's called "constructive criticism". Instead of saying "omfg, this new site fucking sucks", try something like "it's ok, but just maybe change this". Just because YOU don't like it, doesn't mean no one does.
And fyi, I have yet to see how they sacrificed functionality. Yes, it takes some getting used to, but when you actually take the time to get used to it, it's pretty streamlined.
If you had paid any attention to what we've been saying, it's not the issue of how the site looks now; it's the fact that they ignored what the majority of the community wanted.
What majority? The 100 people who were mentioned on here before? I hardly find that a majority. Why are they not allowed to try out new shit on the site? THAT's my question to you. What company makes ALL of it's decisions based on ONLY what their user base wants. None. It's a mix of that, and their own creative decisions, which some of you have forgotten that you're actually ALLOWED to do when you run a damn company.
And you, that would be a legit reason to give constructive criticism on it, instead of bitching out every damn thing that was changed and calling it a "failed abortion of a layout".
But my point, is that just because YOU find that it sacrifices on functionality, which i don't see fyi, doesn't mean every person feels that way, or hell, even that the majority feels that way.
I personally see the "I'm never using this site again" whines like the people who say they'll never order from a restaurant again. Give it a month, and they'll be back.
Are we using the same site? They took the most important part of the homepage, that is updates on forum replies, and put into into a very awkward drop down menu. Then if you are a sponsor, they added in all your mod points updates there too, making that system even worse. Not only that, but it is the last part of the page to load, so if all you want to do is check if a thread has been updated, you have to wait for a different page to finish loading before you can do that.
The layout we previewed for the last few months , despite initial reservations among people, at least worked. But this new site is, One, not what we were told to expect. Two, not user friendly in the least.
And lastly, you seem to misunderstand one thing I am saying. I didn't say that in my opinion, this site sacrifices functionality, I stated that this site sacrifices functionality. Opinion does not come into it.
I refuse to eat at Mcdonald, too. But that's because their food sucks.
The Changes to the site are fairly minimalist.
It's just the same as when the podcast changed from the Drunk Tank to the RT Podcast. People got pissed over nothing but a name change. If the internet didn't evolve over time, we'd still be using Prodigy and Compuserve on a 2400 dialup modem. Even though I have fond memories of those days, I wouldn't want to go back to that.
To all the naysayers, you say you're going to leave the site, yet you're all still on here complaining. It's not that big of a change, so get over it and move on.
Not entirely... the deal with people freaking over RTPodcast was a name change that in no way affected them. This change... it feels like the staffers responsible are trolling us. The preview was almost completely different from what this result is and either the RT staff doesn't want the community voicing their opinion officially or we're just not allowed to have opinions that differ from Ben's want to make his own version of Facebook.
In reply to Bobomcgraw, #112: As I have stated before my problem isnt the complaints its how people are complaining. People are acting like someone stole their most prized possession and took a shit where it used to be in its place. Its a website. If you want to complain, then complain. The harshness towards ben I keep seeing is what is most aggravating. Does everyone think he just put it out on his own without showing Burnie or Gus?
Part of me hopes he did and that they're both being held hostage. This is probably just an elaborate plot by Ben to take over the internet, finding out who is and isn't loyal to him and eventually reinstating America as a British colony.
Damnit Burnie, you hired the next King George the III.
