I woke up early hours this morning to find this nice little treat in my iTunes. What is still stuck in my head is two things, one of them was about how Jack and Gavin were playing with a frisbee and by the sounds of it there are different types of frisbees (completely blew my mind.) Second thing was how three of them were wearing sunglasses at the start and by the end Gavin was the only one left wearing them (and how Monty didn't notice the fact till way way later.)
I'm glad it came out early, and I don't have to wait until tomorrow to listen to it. I'll be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of Monty on the podcast. He always sound a little too NPR-ish to me.
I want the podcast to come out that early all the time. I'm on the West Coast and it makes it great to drive to work/school to. Would love it when I wake up all the time!
Random Note: The way my friend described it to me, teleportation where you would atomize something wouldn't practically work for use on living things because the body would not be able to survive the process. For example, how would your heart function while half of the atoms in it are missing; would you still be "alive"?
So I tend to make shirts based on the podcast, I'm kind of swamped with finals in my senior year of college right now but I may take a break and create a shirt based off this podcast.....stay tuned! KUNG SHOE!
What part of this podcast stuck out the most to you?
The sleep discussion. I read about a guy once who attempted to do the type of sleep schedule they talked about, Polyphasic. Long story short, it was a bitch and he didn't succeed.
Interesting thought about if evolution plays a role in length of sleep.
I agree. I feel like no matter if the amount of sleep changes, we will always need sleep. I remember learning somewhere that when were out cold at night the body heightens it's ability to repair and give bak energy to all of our tissues. Our brain could potentially fry if its tissues weren't repaired from all the hard work they do! ...well some of our brain cells do
The sleep discussion stuck out most to me because I sleep disorder. Can go days where my body is exhausted by my brain just wont shut down no matter how long I lay in bed. The worst part about it is how much it screws up your life. I can count on my hands how many people understand it, eventually ya wind up upsetting someone because of it. Practically impossible to hold a normal job. Medication might sound like a solution but then your body becomes dependent upon the medication to fall asleep at all, not to mention the slew of other side effects that stuff has when used for long periods (like your entire life). The entire world is build around a regular schedule format that I just can't follow, there is little room for people that can get work done but honestly need to do so on their own fluctuating schedule.
How do I cope with it? Very careful food preparation, stay away from foods which accelerate my heartbeat (salts, sugars, oils, etc). Daily meditation to stave off the mental effects (dementia, dulled senses, etc). Air filters to remove allergens because those will put you in bed sick for days when your body doesn't have time to respond to them.
He's also forgotten the old slap joke from the first few episodes of AHWU. That is why people are saying that they want to slap Jack when they get to RTX. The way he's been acting lately, I think he just need to take a chill pill or a vacation or something.
I like Jack but his whole "I turned 30, so now I'm old and bitter" crap needs to end. As a 29 year old, I do kind of take offense to the idea that 30 is "old".
I like him as well, but there are those attributes that really annoy me. There is that and the one that bothers me even more is when he jumps onto bandwagons. I liked him on the podcast a lot more when he was new.
I secretly want Gavin to show up to RTX and slap the shit out of Jack. I even love Jack's act and everything against Gavin but having Gavin get him back in one moment would be amazing.
Maybe its a UK thing breaking headphones like mad, I ended up buying very cheap ones for a while as I worked out they lasted about 2 weeks normally. Waste Wise, Aren't Canada known for recycling so it does kind of makes sense. Sleeping so much at once - it takes 3 hours for your brain to go into a state where its shut down enough to process all the information its gathered. Essentially the human body is emptying its active processes from the memory, so the human body is a windows PC, it needs to be shut down to clear out and be able to function again otherwise it simply clogs up and won't work. Also the minimum sleep you can survive on is 4 hours a night but you have to train yourself to be able to cope and be able to get into that deep sleep where your brain is processing what its experienced in the day. The whole processing stuff as you sleep is said to be why we dream its our brain making sense of everything.
The small bit about the segways was really funny to me because when I visited China last year I ran into a 'segway gang' like them. At the Olympic Bird's Nest there are about 20 young guys hired to just stand on the main field all with segways, but because there isn't anything to do they just spend their time chasing each other about and messing around.
On the topic of waiting in line at a hotel. I was checking into a hotel with my family, and we were behind 4 or 5 groups. When I finally get up to the counter the phone rings and the person at the desk answers it. I got a little upset but I did not want the person at the desk to see the look on my face so I turn my back to her. It is then when I notice that there is a woman on the hotels public use phone that is located a few feet away. This expletive deleted had called the fromt desk from the freaking front desk.
