Well, it all seems to be heading for a climax, isn't it? Tex has finally been set free from the Cycle. The secrets and the history of Project Freelancer seem to be coming out. It appears that Season 10 will teach us the secret origin of The Meta and of the Project's fall from grace into the state we see it in during Blood Gulch Chronicles. I would not be surprised if, by the end of Season 11, the whole Freelancer arc that began with the events in Season 2/3 will be finally wrapped up.
What then?
This thread is to discuss options for continuing Red vs. Blue beyond the end of the current extended arc. Should it continue or should the guys look for new worlds to conquer?
Personally, I think that there are new places that the Red vs. Blue characters can go and new adventures (and comic misadventures) for us to enjoy. The first step would be to step away from Church's long quest for pennance and focus on a different character.
I suggest that a future arc focus on Tucker and Junior. Maybe all that stuff that happened in Season 4/5 was just a scenario, but what if the Great Prophecy was quoted word-for-word from The Book of the Covenant Propehecies? What if there really is a Great Destroyer, a Sword and a Chosen One? Tucker is determined that it will be his cuddly little abomination of nature and sets out to ensure it happens. He tries to talk the others into it but, naturally, they aren't interested. In true RvB comic style, stuff happens and they find themselves involved anyway.
It's Grif's opinion that the whole 'prophecy' thing is bunkum. Especially when he learns that the Guardian of the Sword is identiifed as 'The Golden Virgin'. Lopez admits that he shot Sister with a paintball gun, making her 'dead' for the purposes of the Simulation War and shipped her off back to headquarters. He also mentions that she had apparently acquired a Covenant Plasma Sword from somewhere. Yes, that sword.
"Look, if you're telling me that my sister is the 'Virgin Guardian of the Sword of the Chosen One', then this whole Prophecy is fucked up from beginning to end! My sister is many things but 'virgin' isn't one of them!"

Phase 1 - Tucker is reunited with Junior and sets off ("Good riddance to the fucktard!"); the others get dragged in against their will Phase 2 - The quest to find Sister and the Sword Phase 3 - Off to the Alien Systems (using the alien maps for Halo 3) and the fun really begins

What should happen after the Freelancer arc is finished?
i believe Tex might have escaped when Caboose opened the pod just like church escaped, which would lead Tex to being in season 10 to hunt for the Director or the director has a copy of the Tex AI and use's her against the blues, reds, and Carolina when they come after him, and maybe he has copys of the other AI so he use them against them also. idk the Director seems like a man who would make more then one copy then putting all his eggs in one basket
After the Freelancer arc ends, and all signs are pointing to it, they really should do a new story, focusing on a different character. Although I don't have an idea for a story yet, it seems evident that if there is a new story, it will have to be with a different character. I mean, Church has been the center point to this incredibly epic tale, and season 10 goes all the way up to the director. There won't be anything left for Church to do.
EDIT:...unless Epsilon decides that he would be better off with the Director, and be rid of all of the team killing fucktards and red morons. Maybe the Freelancer arc is coming to an end soon, but that doesn't mean Church has to go. Maybe he likes being away from those idiots. Maybe he hates them, even wants them dead. This would be interesting. Church goes to the dark side, leaving Caboose, Tucker, and the Reds to either get him back...or kill him for good. Of course, this is scarily serious, so perhaps the episodes could be made into 2 separate storylines again. One line follows the reds and what's left of the blues and how they plan on taking down Church, and the other story follows Church traveling the Halo rings, attempting to raise an army to permanently extinguish his former allies.
Oh, and just for kicks. In this story, the blue team falls into turmoil with only 2 people, so they recruit Doc. Why? Why the fuck not?
I'm hoping that Season 10 is going to wrap up the loose ends with the Great Prophecy, but I would like the series to shift focus onto Tucker since he seems to have most going on in his life.
He seems to have a relationship with Sister (however shallow it might be) so he is one of the few characters to currently have something that can technically be called a "love interest" (and I'm not counting Grif and Simmons since they haven't admitted any positive feelings towards each other).
Plus, Tucker is actually almost a real soldier, and with Alpha and Epsilon out of the picture (and I do hope and fully expect for Epsilon to be out the picture), I think Tucker is going to try and seize the leadership position. However, I think Wash will oppose that idea and a struggle for authority will ensue between Wash and Tucker. It should be noted that Tucker and Wash haven't really interact much, so it would nice to see how their friendship develops. Since Tucker isn't a completely lost cause in terms of intelligence and competency, I can envision Wash being a voice of reason that tries to guide Tucker in developing as a better soldier, a better leader, and a better person.
Why would Tucker need to be a better person? Maybe because he has to learn how be a better ather for the sake of his teenage alien son, who apparently aged very rapidly (just like the parasitic xenomorph in Alien). Perhaps Tucker fears that he will fail his son as a father the same way that Tucker's own father failed him. Maybe, Tucker will foolishly encourage his son's reckless behavior. Tucker trying to learn how to be a good father seems like a good story thread for his character development that could present many opportunities for humor and meaningful moments.
Tucker's connection to the aliens also opens up a number of possibilities when it comes to the main external plot.
As for the Reds, I think their characters could focus on developing in numerous ways. I think Donut, having been traumatized from almost being killed, could reflect on his life and choose to live it a bit differently. He might start living life to its fullest as if everyday was his last. Or, perhaps the trauma from almost dying could turn Donut into a coward (well... more of a coward) and Donut's fear will get in the way of his role as soldier. After Donut is sick of being paralyzed by fear, he try become more manly by embracing courage to overcome his cowardice. I wonder is Donut will hold a grudge against Washington for almost killing him.
As for Grif, I think his relationship with his Sister could be interesting to explore. Grif is usually very lazy, but perhaps his concern for his Sister's wellbeing is enough to make him get off his lazy butt and prove himself as a capable soldier, perhaps earning new respect from Sarge (whose opinion of Grif has been slowly improving throughout the past two or so seasons).
As for Simmons, maybe he can work towards resolving his father issue that he projects onto his relationship with Sarge. Simmons will never find true happiness if he needs to depend on approval from his father or Sarge or other authority figures, so perhaps Simmons will finally tell off Sarge one day, thus finally achieving peace of mind and emotional satisfaction. From the onwards, when Simmons listens to Sarge, it will only be for practically reasons, not because Simmons has an emotional need for his approval.
As for matters of the external plot, since the Blood Gulch gang knows that the Red and Blue war is just a simulation, maybe the UNSC can use the bases from the different outposts to run some sort of competition (yes, like the Hunger Games, but probably with less real stakes). This is more of a lighthearted promise, which is a good way to ease away form the epic-ness of the Freelancer story arc of the past four or five seasons (Plus, Hunger Games had epic moments too). It would be cool if the different outposts had competitions against each other, which could bring back the zealots and introduce new reject soldiers into the story, since most the new character in previous seasons have been competent soldiers that provide more action than humor. Plus, the aliens or some other external force might interfere with the ongoing of the competition.
I think aliens might have a more prominent role after Season 10. I also think the Insurrectionists is part of RT's longterm plan for keeping the series going, so I think they will show up after Season 10 as a powerful organization of villains. In fact, since the Insurrectionists have a fascination with alien technology, I wouldn't be surprised if they specifically target Tucker in order to try and steal his sword. They might even kidnap Sister and Junior in order to convince Tucker to hand over the sword. Since the Insurrectionists kidnap Sister, Grif will make the Reds team up with the Blues in a rescue mission to save Junior and Sister while Tucker faces of in an epic sword battle against the leader of the Insurrectionists, who is also equipped with equally dangerous alien technology.
Lopez will be Lopez. Doc will be Doc. Caboose will be Caboose. There, I think I mentioned everyone (that matters to me).
I've been wondering what would happen next after they announced that season 10 would be the end of the freelancer story. I really like the idea of returning to the "prophecy" story line and the possibility of bringing back Juinor and Sister.
I also would like Simmons to have a side storyline. I still have questions about him; like why was he placed in Blood Gulch? It makes sense why everyone else became outcast soldiers (Griff and Tucker=lazy, Donut=wuss, Doc=bad doc, Sarge=crazy, Church=hidden away from everyone else who knows about the Alpha, and Caboose=...well, he's Caboose), but Simmons is smart and knows how to be a soldier well. Also, what happened to the fact that he's half robot? Was that just a one sided storyline or was there more to that?
I noticed that Burnie and Matt like putting random puzzle pieces (or hints) in different episodes and seasons and in the end connect them all to create this really big epic picture (like what happened in Season 7). I like to think that Simmons being a half robot and/or being placed in Blood Gulch one of them. But who knows really?
I think the most logical step after the Freelancer Era is said and done is to expand more on the Great Prophecy. That said, I agree with other people that it should focus on a different character then Church. Tucker IMO would be an ideal choice to be the main focus of a new overarching story, especially if it concerns aliens and/or the Prophecy.
But you can't copy an AI unless you fragment it like they did the Alpha, which means there would be a bunch more Church-like characters from different AI's. They have already stated that the director was only given the one AI.
I believe it was hinted at in season 8 that the Director was not the only head of project freelancer. I think that natedorg is right in saying Tex escaped because it wouldn't be Red vs. Blue without Tex. I think that Tex will continue to seek vengeance on people higher up until she reaches the director who does not work for project freelancer anymore due to the investigation in season 8. And it will become almost a Born Identity situation where she tries to figure out the origins of project freelancer and the people responsible. If anyone will become the new main character of a story arc I believe it will be tex. But since Church is so emotionally connected to her he will tag along.
I don't think any characters will be killed, (even donut and sister are not dead) because everyone that has been killed has come back, they might do something with that. Explain why all of the characters seem to be drawn to each other. When they were separated in season 7 they all found each other and became one team again. This has happened several times throughout the series and Sarge even gave a "Why are you here?" speech. Since that seems to be a running theme of the show they will probably conclude it with an explanation of why each character is there. However, I do not foresee that happening in the next couple years.

I think that after season 10 a completely new Story will open up most likely from either tucker or/and Jr. The BGC will end up being the one thing that links all the stories together similarly to 'Jay and Silent Bob' in the Askewniverse where they are always present in each story and help bring all the stories together while not directly being part of the key plot except in various subtle ways.
I'm hoping to either see Tucker and Junior's story continue, or something more for Grif and/or Simmons.
I wonder, does Grif still have the Brute Shot? He could have gotten it from the side of the cliff after 'yoinking' the aircraft. If so, he and Tucker could have some interesting byplay, as they discuss whose weapon is more badass.
Thinking on it, I'd like to see more of Grif and Tucker interacting. They are rather amusing together. Perhaps Grif gets dragged into the prophecy thing, 'helping' Tucker with his kid. Unwillingly. Could be amusing.
I'm seeing a trend with the story continuing with Tucker/Jr. and/or Simmons. And as much as I agree I curious about a storyline with Sarge? We barely know who he is much less his name (unless it's really Sarge), so he kinda like a blank page to start a new adventure. Just a thought.
I know I know... after freelancer they can make a run off sit-com about a messy guy and a clean guy, played by Private Griff and Private Simons, living together. And they can have Celebrity guest appearances from there landlord, played buy Sarge. They can call it "The Bizarre Couple."

You can have another run off sit-com about a guy living with two female roommates. One of the woman roommates can be a wild free spirit and do totally zanny things, like bring a pony into there house. The other female roommate can be a hard ass. You can have Tucker play the lead male, and Sister and Tex play the two female roommates... They can also have a Celebrity landlord that is gay... And you can have Church play that character because he's a gay robot..
And Junior Caboose & Donut should have there own Action series. Where Caboose can play a private investigator and Donut can play some old british guy that gives Caboose cases... And you can all that "Caboose I.P."
Since Blue Team got a lot more going on than the Red Team, maybe having Sarge as a main character wouldn't be that bad of an idea. There is certainly some character developement that could be done there for some interesting twists.
Although the motion capture stuff is really neat, I'd like RvB to focus some more on the humour again and less on action. Not get rid of it, just not make it the center of attention.
I wouldn't mind seeing the story shift to the Red Team for a bit after all these years of the Blue Team being the plot guys. A fairly easy scenario would be Sarge and maybe something with his past or perhaps a friend of his arrives into the scene. Decent number of possibilities, for a lot of the characters actually. But the one thing I can definitely say is I would like it to focus on the Reds as opposed to the Blues.
That being said, from an unbiased perspective Tucker has the best shot of a good character storyline going on. I won't complain if they go that route, but like I said. Reds would be preferred.
First and foremost, it is time to put an end to RvB. It has run its course and it is far past time to tidy up all the loose ends and put it to bed.
With RvB gone, I can see Tucker and Junior reunited - briefly. Since Junior's story would be told through the Covenant and the search for the Great Sword, Tucker would both arrive and depart in episode one - preferably with a shot to the head so he doesn't come back.
This would establish Junior and the Quest could begin.
As far as Sister, she would be enjoying her Rave parties so let her stay there.
Season One would be the arrival of Junior and the fatal departure of Tucker on a crippled Covenant Ship. Aboard the ship would be several Covenant soldiers - Elites through Grunts. Survivors of some battle that no one knows anything about because they were in various departments in the lower regions of the ship and not on the bridge. The season would end with the ship - somewhat - restored to functioning and starting on the Quest.
Season Two would be the beginning of the Quest and end with the discovery of the Great Sword.
Season Three would be the culmination of the Quest.
If that doesn't grab anyone's attention, then put RvB into the ONI Academy for some R-Spy v B-Spy.
I feel like RvB will definitely keep going. They have to finish up with freelancers (keeping in mind a plot twist could always occur), then there's Tucker. That whole desert place seemed a bit "Deus ex machina"-esque
Plus, I'm sure they can pull something to create a whole new idea with Halo 4 coming soon
